From John ZL2JPM
Hi Folks
I must express some satisfaction with the performance of a new portable setup I deployed for the ROAR nets. I was in a rural area and there was a bit of noise from power and electric fences.
A new portable antenna cut for 40m from 300ohm ribbon (a folded dipole) and a long-wire for other frequencies. Then IC705 was powered from a 4.5Ah Lithium via a 13.8v regulator and easily supplied the full 10w for both nets.
For 40m on the folded dipole:
VK4ZD 59 with 56-57 report to me
ZL2BFS 50+10 with 59 report to me
GOEGW 57 and some confusion thereafter
F1CFA 52 – not called
VK3KCD 42 – not called
For 20m on the long-wire:
Results not really satisfactory due to QRM and the lack of a balanced antenna system (more work)
VK4ZD peaked 57 and received 56, but then faded
Signals ebbed and flowed, but European stations (GOEGW, G4HCK & F1CFA) could be heard occasionally at around strength 2
Kind regards
John (ZL2JPM)

0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From Bob G3SZF
G3SZF Bob was net control and was joined by
G7OAI John
G3LUW Brian
G3JJR John
G4LXD Bill
PA3AHC Malcolm
Conditions were good which probably explained the high levels of QRM. It was good to hear from Malcolm and he again promoted his planned 20m international CQ at 1400, 1500 and 1600z. Brian reported on the earlier 20m net which suggests that DX activity is improving. All round another interesting net within the context of Lockdown 2.

President started off with a poll - what is our desired time to start the net.
And the survey said, it was a split between 2100Z and 2200 Z. So the net will begin with the warm-up session at 2100Z and the meeting will begin at 2130Z.
Ed then introduced a topic of telling our ages without using numbers. As with any Rotary group, there was a great diversity of experiences. From being the first peacetime baby to relation to JFK's death. It was an informative and interesting exercise.
Then followed a general round of accounts of Rotary activities - meeting formats, planned speakers and then amateur radio experiences. Again demonstrating a wide variety of events and actions.
There was a suggestion that we share with others our excess and surplus radio gear. Eddie N7EDD will know what to do with it.
Ed closed the meeting at 2138Z
Another excellent net
