Roar Nets July 21st and 23rd 2019

Report for Week of 21 July 2019
Sad Message from Miika OH2BAD
Hello Phil and the whole ROAR family.
I have been traveling in Finland and just received your newsletter, tnx.
Evidently you have not received any news on Pertti, EA7GSU/OH1SH. With great sadness I can report that Pertti passed away a few weeks ago. I heard this in the SRAL National Field Day (OH3W) on July 13th. No exact day was mentioned.
I also operated the rental station OH73ELK in Eastern Finland (see
This coming weekend there is the RSGB IOTA Contest. Lot of QRM to be expected also on 14.295.2, hi! I try to be there, too. Happy that Henry, OH6ZS has been in the net.
Best regards & 73!
Miika, OH2BAD
Many thanks for the reports Nick and Jean-Pierre; it was great to hear from you.
Don’t forget the Digital Net on Saturdays at 2100z on XLX299R.

Sunday 21st July 2019
0530z-0600z D-Star Net
From Phil VK2MCB
Last Sunday at 0530z we had eight ROAR participants call in:
David ZL2WT, for the first time
Peter VK3KCD
Bill VK4ZD (actually it was VK4DI Diane) who could hardly be heard due to illness but Bill’s callsign came up on Dstar
Nick G4HCK
Vernon G0EGW, and
Also, our good friend Phil ZL2RO, our honorary ROAR member, who hosts the XLX 299 R Reflector called in.
0600z - 0630z Anzo Net on 7,105 +/- QRM
From Phil VK2MCB
Both Bill and Diane were ill on Sunday so did not participate.
I did not have visibility of what happened on 40m as my HF is down having sold my house and being in interim accommodation.
0630z-0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Nick G4HCK
Well the 20m net was well supported today.
I also think G3LUW was on frequency but I could not hear him just the reference to John.
F1CFA took charge and had a difficult task but did well. Conditions were not that great but we made it.
Nicholas Wilkinson
From Jean-Pierre F1CFA
Hello Phil, that's my report ! I was again, as a matter of fact, captain of the group !
Past Sunday : Hard contest : I had just a contact with G4HCK (59/59) and PA3AHC (57/57)
Past Tuesday : I had a contact with G3LUW ( 59/59) and PA3AHC (57/57)
Heavy QSB and, Sunday, an Italian station powerful was splattering a lot and talking, talking, talking ? ...This Sunday (21th), no contest, but the same guy splattering 2KHz higher ...Grrrr !!!
Perhaps a rat-trap would be the solution ?
Anyway, we had a nice net meeting with :
G4HCK (59/59), PA3AHC (57/57), YO9BC (55/55), G3LUW (59/59) and a new rotarian station not far from Helsinki OH6ZS Henri (55/55).
No contact with F4FCW or EA7GSU, or any other station from the group.
As usual, G3LUW and G4HCK could not copy themselves. Sometimes, PA3AHC was copied by Brian or Nick with the QSB. Malcolm was copying strongly OH6ZS,
At the end of the QSO, OH6ZD was QSL with a station of Ireland EI4OF but I can't copy him.
73 Phil and HIRS !
