Roar Nets June 24th 2018 and June 26th 2018

ROAR Nets Report from for Sunday 24 June and Tuesday 26 June 2018
Friday 22 June at 0618z
From Phil VK2MCB
Responding to a Facebook alert, I copied VE3R on 14295khz beaming short path. Bill gave me 55 and I gave him 42.

0530z - 0600z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Phil VK2MCB
Bill VK4ZD is overseas for the Rotary International Convention as is John ZL2JPM and Peter VK3KCD.
Only Douglas ZL1BFS with a weak signal around 42. We decided to QSY to 20m early.

0600z / 2200z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Phil VK2MCB
Doug ZL1BFS was an excellent signal with Doug coming in 59 and giving me 57.
Pertti was heard on CW initially and I asked him to call on SSB. He responded with a 53 signal and he gave me 34 before fading out.
Klaus was absent from his QTH and not on the net
From John G3OKT
I heard Pertti give VK2MCB 3.3 on CW – no sign of Phil or any other ANZO station here.
From Phil VK2MCB at 2200z 14295.2
Klaus, Doug, Vernon and I were on the net which worked well.
Klaus HB9CQS was 55 and gave me the same
Doug ZL1BFS was 59 and gave me 57. Doug and Klaus exchanged readability 5 reports. Doug was delighted with his contact with Klaus being the first European QSO he had had in months.
Vernon G0EGW joined us at 2230z having just returned from France. Vernon and I exchanged 53 reports.
2200z is most definitely the best time for VK/ZL propagation to Europe

Dstar with Toronto
A Dstar demonstration was carried out between the ROAR Booth in Toronto and VK2MCB in Canberra, Australia at 1300 local Toronto time on 24 June. This was 0300 local Canberra time. In spite of a very overloaded internet at the Toronto end, a successful demonstration was held. We understand that several ROAR members will join the Dstar community as a result, a good outcome and worth getting out of bed early for!

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKTP
Once again, QSB was a significant phenomenon on 80m. The band was busy with a Eu contest, but not a problem on the ROAR frequency of 3694. G3SZF was Net Control. Bob was 5.8 here, down to 5.6 in QSB
G7OAI/P was 5.9+10dB here; and once faded right out with G3SZF. John gave me 5.9+40dB!
G3LUW was 5.9+10dB. Brian reported success with his hip scan and injection on June 18th
G3JJR was 5.9- 9+10dB here in QSB. John heard Bob at 5.5 to 5.8, QSB; gave G7OAI/P 5.7-5.9; gave G3LUW 5.9+10dB; gave G3OKT 5.8 to 5.9+20dB.
G4LXD and I exchanged 5.8; Bill gave G3LUW 5.8 down to S6, G3SZF 5.7 and G3JJR up to +20dB and down to S8 in QSB; gave G3OKT and G2FUU 5.9; Bill was 5.9 to 5,].5 here QSB.
G2FUU reported that he was receiving all stations fairly well. Tommy reported his Grandson had had a little girl to complement their existing little boy. Tommy was congratulated by all!
G2FUU was a steady 5.8 here. Both Tommy and G3JJR said they would listen at 1800hrs on 80m for any callers.
As G3JJR put it, we all dropped out of the basket at times! John had a birthday on June 21 and his Club had celebrated John’s 35 years in Rotary.
G3OKT mentioned his long term plan to move QTH 1kM west to near where G3ASC, Ernie Power, had significantly contributed to the initial creation of ROAR in what is now a chicken shed on the Oswestry Old Racecourse (1000 ft asl).
No member of the net had managed to so far contacted VE3R at the Rotary Convention in Toronto.
The net closed at 0854z.

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz
2130z-2230z Transcontinental net on 7.185 / 14.285
From President Ed Tyler N4EDT on Facebook
I made it home to Pell City, Alabama yesterday evening. My wonderful spouse had a barbecue sandwich and baked beans from a local restaurant named Fat Man's Barbecue. Never trust a skinny cook. Wonderful food set in place by a wonderful wife. Am I ever happy to be home!
It was wonderful to meet so many ROAR members. I look forward to the coming 3 years and sincerely solicit input from ROAR members on how to improve the organization.

0800z – 0830z Tuesday NZ 80-m net on 3,693
0600z / 2200z Tuesday 26th June 2018 EUR 20m net on 14,295.2
From Phil VK2MCB
Only Doug ZL1BFS and I today, Doug gave me 57 and I gave him 59.
Doug and Klaus were going to meet at 2200z but I could not attend.

VE3R 28 June at 2230z
Diane advised at around 2200z that VE3R would be active on 14295khz.
Phil VK2MCB copied Klaus HB9CQS with a 55 signal in Canberra calling Bill in Toronto. I had no copy on Bill and understand Klaus had only weak copy on Bill.
Vernon G0EGW was heard in QSO with Klaus and Bill. Vernon was only 21 in Canberra.
I had no copy on Bill – probably beaming Europe.
