Roar Nets December 2nd and December 4th 2018

ROAR Nets Report for Sunday 2 December and Tuesday 4 December 2018
0700z - 0730z Anzo Net on 7,105 +/- QRM
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was AWL (Absent With Leave) travelling to and from Adelaide :)
Doug ZL1BFS and I exchanged 59+10 reports. He advised that Cycle 25 had commenced.
Peter VK3KCD was 58-9 and gave me 59
John ZL2JPM was 57 and gave me 57 also
Vernon G0EGW called in just as we were readying to move to 20m He was 44 here
From John ZL2JPM
VK4ZD 52 42
ZL1BFS 59 59

0730z-0830z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Doug ZL1BFS was 59+5 and gave me 59
Peter VK3KCD was 45-56 and gave me 58 with QSB
John ZL2JPM was 55-7 and gave me 57-8 peaking at 59
Vernon G0EGW was initially 23-44
Nick G4HCK was just detectable as 11
Then we had OHR suspected as being a Chinese unbroken transmission continuously on the frequency for over 30 minutes - signal strength was 59+10. I recorded the transmission and played it back in the source direction until the transmission ceased.
At 0850z Vernon G0EGW called with a great 57-8 signal and gave me 57-8 building to 59 over time
John ZL2JPM was also 57-8 (his new antenna doing a great job).
He gave me 55 and was also able to make good contact with Vernon.
From John ZL2JPM
The Sunday Europe-ANZO net began with promise, was interrupted with the worst dose of OHR in recent memory and then, after that - an hour later, the 20m band to UK was as good as it has ever been. Oh, that the latter should continue!

G0EGW 55 54
VK4ZD 57 57
EA7GSU 41 41
0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
(80m is still going strong at 0900z for RIBI on Sundays and John G7OAI is trying to pull together an AGM on May 11th. More later)
1900z-1930z NA Transcontinental net on 7.185 September 2
No report Received

0730z Tuesday December 4th 2018 EUR 20m net on 14,295.2
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 33
John ZL2JPM was 56-7 and gave me 56
Vernon G0EGW was coming in on both short and long path. At the end we settled on the short path. During the 45 minute QSO Vernon built from 55 to 56-7 and gave me the same with my signal peaking at 58
Nick G4HCK was also detected at 22
From Nick G4HCK
Sunday was a struggle but I did manage to contact a few people which was great. Today - Tuesday I can hear some people - I think Vk2MCB or maybe Bill (the voice pops up and then vanishes) but I have an adjacent station blocking out everything.
And there is Vernon not very strong at all today.
I left the receiver on 14.295.2 this morning as I worked in the office. Much to my surprise I am hearing music again.
I understand it's a harmonic from a BBC station but it's the first time I have heard this for many months.
Perhaps propagation is on the up although only slightly. Lots of other band noise however.
From John G3OKT
Thanks for this Nick.
I did listen on 14.2952 this morning (Tuesday) at 0800z but apart from a strong warbling beacon station, I heard nothing - this with the quad pointing LP to Oz and checking other directions and QRGs.
Still will keep trying
From Phil VK2MCB
Many thanks for your input gentlemen.
Sorry I missed all these nets as I was attending events in South Australia celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the introduction into the Royal Australian Air Force of the P3 Orion aircraft. We operated three versions of the aircraft over the years: the P3B from 1968 to 1984; the P3C from 1978 to 2002 and the AP3C from 2002 to the present. The AP3C is progressively being replaced by the P8A Poseidon. All types had some very impressive communications equipment.
