Roar Nets April 1st 2018 and April 3rd 2018

ROAR Nets Report for Sunday 1st April 2018 and Tuesday 3rd April 2018
The trial on Tuesday 3 April brought the net 30 minutes earlier. It worked for some of us but not all. It has been suggested by VK3KCD and ZL2JPM that bringing the net forward 30 minutes earlier again could be trialled. I therefore propose we trial this on Sunday 8 April.
Note that from 8 April, the ANZO 40m net will start at 0600Z and the ANZO 20m net will start at 0630Z. This will be a trial to see if it improves things.

0700z - 0730z Anzo Net on 7,110
0600z-0630z Next Week

From Bill VK4ZD

Phil VK2MCB was 58-9 and gave me 59+20
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 33
John ZL2JPM/mm was 55-58 and gave me 58
Vernon G0EGW was 56-7 and gave me 53

From Phil VK2MCB
I had S5 noise which made things hard!
Bill VK4ZD was 59+ and gave me 59
Jean Pierre F1CFA was heard 21
John ZL2JPM maritime mobile was 45 and gave me 43

0730z- 0830z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
0630z-0730z Next Week

From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 8-9 and gave me 59
Vernon G0EGW was 33
Miika OH2BAD was 22
Klaus HB9CQS was 56 and gave me 55
I went QRT at 0810z when signals disappeared

From Phil VK2MCB
Vernon G0EGW was 42 and came up to 52 at 0758Z
Bill VK4ZD was 59 and gave me 58
Miika OH2BAD was 53 and gave me 52
Klaus HB9CQS was heard 21 at 0751Z

From John G3OKT
The QSL website at 0610z gave SFI 69 A 7 K 1 and sunspots 12
Much encouraged by the first non-zero sunspot count for sometime, G3OKT called CQ at 0730z on 14.2952. No response, but I thought I heard Pertti? deep in the noise.
(I had heard Warren, ZL2AJ given 5.5 by a UK station at 0720z)
HB9CQS was just heard talking to VK4ZD at 0752z. Klaus was only 4.1 here but exchanged 5.7 b/w with G0EGW. Klaus might have heard me “very weak”
OH2BAD gave VK4ZD 5.4 (heard via HB9CQS). No sign of Bill here.
G4HCK Nick was said to be 3.2 with Klaus. Not heard here.
G0EGW might have made contact with VK2MCB but neither were heard here.
F1CFA was also apparently on frequency. Jean Pierre was not heard here.
I QSY’d to 80m at 0822z

From John ZL2JPM
The ANZO net (40m) was barely encouraging and the 20m net that followed was so bad I heard nobody!
looking at my grey-line, I saw that the best time for ZL was well over one hour out and I fear we’ve drifted too late over the past year – being more reluctant to come on the nets earlier than we ought.

From Phil VK2MCB
Bringing the net times 30 minutes earlier improved propagation for me but was no good for ZL into Europe. John ZL2JPM suggests we are still too late. Peter VK3KCD concurs, with the observation that we could have been at the end of an opening to Europe. I think he is right as Nick and Vernon faded quite rapidly to me after about 0715Z which was 15 minutes into the net. This suggests bringing the nets forward a further 30 minutes as a another trial. I propose we begin the ANZO 20m net for Sunday 8 April at 0630Z.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
G3LUW was 5.9+20dB as usual here. Brian had decided against joining the 20m net.
G7OAI John was a good signal here, listening on RF and Hack Green SDR. (Sorry no record)
F5VLO Gary called in from Brittany. Was 5.8/9 here from a 500ft loop 40ft high.
G3SZF – Bob was 5.9 here
PA3AHC had been a good signal earlier at 0803 to 0810z – I did not hear Malcolm.
G4LXD was 5.9+10 dB here; Bill gave G2FUU 5.9, G3OKT 5.9+10dB, F5VLO 5.8, G3LUW 5.9, G7OAI 4.6, G3SZF 5.9 and PA3AHC 5.7.
G2FUU Tommy was 5.9+; thought he might be able to listen on 80m for callers this evening.
I told Brian that Peter VK3KCD expected to visit Bath after the Toronto Rotary Convention. It seems that Brian and I might be able to meet Peter there in June (?) Brian closed the net at 0840z.

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz

2100z-2200z Transcontinental net on 7.185

0800z – 0830z Tuesday 12th December 2017 NZ 80-m net on 3,693

0700z - 0730z (Trial) Tuesday 3rd April 2018 EUR 20m net on 14,295.2

From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCG was 55 and gave me 55
Nick G4HCK was 33 but did not hear me
Vernon G0EGW was 33 but did not hear me
Peter VK3KCD was 58 and gave me 59
I started to go QRT at 0730z but Klaus called in
Klaus HB9CQS was 56 and gave me 56-7
I finally went QRT at 0740z

From Phil VK2MCB
Jean Pierre F1CFA was 21
Nick G4HCK was 55 and gave me 43. This was encouraging as it is the strongest I have heard Nick in many months.
Vernon G0EGW was 57 and gave me 43
Peter VK3KCD was 33 but only heard me weakly in background noise
I went QRT at 0725 but had better reception than Sunday.

From Nick G4HCK
Well we just made it this morning but not for long. The SFI was only 68 so you could not expect too much although Solar Ham did show a sun spot. I don’t know about ROAR more like purr and that’s being generous.
