From Phil VK2MCB
Conditions were not favourable today. Doug ZL1BFS and Bill VK4ZD were good
signals but Europe was poor. Klaus HB9CQS was a 55 signal here but only copied
me 31. Pertti EA7GSU was 55 but no report was exchanged. Also, Nick G4HCK was
heard with a 53 signal but no report exchanged
From Brian G3LUW
Conditions on 20m were
very poor. Heavy background mush here, which is unusual for me. Klaus HB9CQS and
Pertti EA7GSU were very strong. Klaus was the only one to contact Australasia.,
and he spoke to several of the regular Europeans. SFI=89 A=16 K-2 I heard none
of the others.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From Brian G3LUW
Malcolm PA3AHC called me
prior to the 80m net. Loud and clear both ways. Conditions on 80m were very
good. Those present were Tommy, John in Rochdale, John in Crewe, Bill G4LXD,
Derek G0SQH and Bob G3SZF. I closed the net at 0845
1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz
2230z - 2300z Informal
Transcontinental net on 7.118 +/- QRM
From Ed N4EDT
The Transcon net opened at
2230Z on 40 meters, 7.179 MHZ, adjusted from 7.188 do to QRM. The 20 meter net
opened at 2300Z, on 14.288 MHZ. Joe Spears was live on DSTAR during the net. We
will have more stations active on DSTAR during future nets. The exact operation
of the DSTAR facility are still up in the air. No decision has been made on
whether to run the DSTAR during the HF nets, or operate on DSTAR as a separate
net. DSTAR does offer us the ability to dependably communicate with area out
side of those supported by current HF propagation.
We did allow a member of the Lions Club to join our net and will assist him in
becoming a Rotarian if he desires. Net participation continues to affirm there
is no truly effective way to simultaneously communicate with all North American
ROAR members on HF. We will continue to operate on both 40 and 20 meters but,
may seasonally adjust the net operating times.

From Bill VK4ZD
I was required on a
business conference call at this time and so Diane VK4DI took my place.
Klaus
HB9CQS and Diane exchanged 59 reports
Phil VK2MCB was 53 and gave Di 52
Les PA0SDZ was 43 and gave Di 54
Pertti EA7GSU and Diane exchanged 59 reports
John G3OKT was faint to Di
Peter VK3KCD was 57-9 and gave
Di 59
Brian G3LUW was 53 but then dropped out
Nick G4HCK was 53 and
gave Di 55 dropping to 52
From Phil VK2MCB
Better conditions all
round on Tuesday.
VK4ZD was making money apparently and delegated to Diane VK4DI
with good success.
Diane and I exchanged 53 reports and had good signals
from Europe.
Klaus HB9CQS was 59 and gave me 57; Malcolm PA3AHC was 51 here
and gave me 57
Nick G4HCK and I exchanged 53 reports and John G3OKT was 53
and gave me the same.
To reach John is a great achievement these days.
Brian G3LUW was 53 here and gave me 31 and Les PA0SDZ
was 54 and gave me 57
Pertti EA7GSU was 59 and gave 57-8
All stations gave
Diane decent reports and were very appreciative of her presence.
In summary,
I assessed Tuesday a great success!!
From John G3OKT
QSL site at 0605 utc gave
SFI 86 A 7 K 3 Sunspots 25 (still going down)
Low noise on the band,
occasional QRN to S5. I called CQ at 0700z but no response.
Soon heard HB9CQS
say "good morning" to Di VK4DI - Klaus gave her 5.9
VK2MCB was just hearable
at 0703z. Phil (then 5.1 here) gave Klaus 5.7 and got 5.9
G4HCK called Di.
Nick was 4.1 here, gave Phil 5.3 and got 5.4
For some time, I was lost in "a
soup" of weak stations -
PA0SDZ, EA7GSU, G3LUW, HB9CQS, PA3AHC but selective
propagation changed dramatically towards 0730.
HB9CQS was only 5.1 here,
later (0706z) peaking 5.5 and gave me 4.1
VK2MCB now 5.3 here , peaking 5.5
VK4DI was also 5.5 here with fast QSB; Diane gave G3LUW 5.3
PA3AHC was called
by Phil. Malcolm just a trace here, got 4.1 from Phil
G3LUW 1.1 in the noise
EA7GSU got 5.9 from Phil and Di. Pertti was hardly hearable here at this stage.
PA0SDZ also 2.1 here; Lez was 5.4 with VK2MCB
HB9CQS suddenly heard at 0718;
5.3 here but in the wrong direction!!
VK4DI gave G4HCK 5.3 and said G3OKT was
"just there" at 0726
EA7GSU was only 4.3 here at 0727 but suddenly shot up to
5.9+20dB at 0730z
PA0SDZ was 5.9+10dB with Pertti who said VK4DI and VK2MCB
were both S9 with him.
VK3KCD Peter had been on the net according to Phil
(and passed regards)
VK3DW had also been on according to Pertti
HB9CQS
still only 1.1 QSB as I went QRT at 0738 (very unusual!)
From Nick G4HCK
Today was very interesting.
Pertti had gone AWOL (I could not hear him) but I could hear Phil and Diane both
5.5 at times. I could also hear Klaus. I still have the problem with the beam
which did not help but despite the low SFI I still made VK.
I think we need a
lady in the driving seat more often !!!!
That's all for now; I was in London on Sunday so missed all nets.
