Roar Nets March 19th - March 21st 2017

ROAR Nets Report for 19th and 21st March 2017

0730z - 0800z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 58-9
Phil VK2MCB was 58-59+5 and gave me 59+20
John ZL2JPM was 57-8 and gave me 57
Pertti EA7GSU was 35 and gave me 55 I think
Noel VK2IWT was 59+10 and gave me 59+40

From Pertti EA7GSU
Tuned my rig to 7110kHz at 0735z and noticed it was free of EU latino network. Was able to hear and contact Bill VK4ZD and heard also John ZL2JPM and Phil VK2MCB. Both were audible but too weak to be readable. My 40m dipole is not the pride of a ham, it hangs 9m in the air in Vee shape. So there is space for improvement!!
20m net was somewhat better but only Bill came thru with easy reading mode, 57 at the end.

0800z- 0900z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,292 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 45 and gave me 55
Doug ZL1BFS was 56 and gave me 56 also
Peter VK3KCD 33 and then 58 - I got 54 then 59
John ZL2JPM was 33-55 and gave me 51
Klaus HB9CQS was 55-6 and gave me 54-5
Pertti EA7GSU was 55 and gave me 57
I went QRT at 0835z when the band died

From Nick G4HCK
A contest today was certainly upsetting the net.
I was pleased to work the European stations but at 08.45 I decided to go QRT.
Better luck next week.

From John G3OKT
QSL at 0605z gave SFI 70 A 2 K 0 s sunspots zero for the 6th consecutive day.
CQ Russia Contest was problematic with fast talking S9+ stations on both 14.292 and 14.2952
Eventually at 0812 I heard Klaus HB9CQS at 3.6 under a contest station, referring to Jean Pierre. F1CFA was not heard here.
Klaus put over to VK4ZD, but there was no trace of Bill here.
EA7GSU gave Bill 5.7, and G4HCK 5.9 at 0825. Pertti called PA3AHC but there was sign of Malcolm here.
G0EGW was called by Pertti. Klaus gave Vernon 5.5/6.
HB9CQS was 5.9 with EA7GSU at 0832. Klaus heard VKs “very weak”. Pertti was 5.7/8 here and gave me 5,7 – 5.9. Pertti said Bill’s signal was “OK” and he heard VK2MCB calling PA3AHC, but he heard no other VK/ZL stations
G4HCK Nick was only 2.1 here.
EA7GSU was 5.9 here by 0845; Pertti gave G4HCK 5.9+20dB
OH2BAD appeared at 5.9+10dB and gave me 5.9. Miika heard EA7GSU at 5.7 before going down. Miika said he could copy VK3KCD and VK2MCB; He had also heard Klaus say that ZLs were on frequency.
G0EGW was 5.3 here – Vernon said he could just hear me.
I left the net at 0850z for the 80m Eu net at 0900.
Pertti thought he would be on the NA net on 7185 at 2300hrs

0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT (net control)
G3LUW Brian and I exchanged 5.9+20dB b/w
G2FUU Tommy and I also exchanged 5.9+20dB b/w. Tommy gave G3LUW just 5.9, gave both G3SZF and G0EGW 5.9+5dB, gave G3JJR 4.8 and gave G4LXD 5.9+15dB.
G3SZF Bob was 5.9 here and was 5.5 with Vernon
G0EGW and G3OKT exchanged 5.9+20dB b/w. Vernon gave Tommy 5.8, Brian 5.9+15dB, Bob 5.5, and Bill 5.5.
Vernon thought he would listen for the US net on 40m this evening.
John G7OAI called in but disappeared (for RAENET?)
G3JJR was 5.9 here
G4LXD was 5.9+20dB here; Bill gave Brian 5.9, Tommy 5.9+10dB, Bob 5.8, John JJR 5.8, and Vernon down on usual.
Bill said he would miss next week’s net.
A good discussion was had and the net closed at 0958.

1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz

1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz

2200z – 2230z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287, 7188, 14.284
From Pertti EA7GSU
We made it! I was there at 2235 on 7187kHz and heard Ed, N4EDT taking bookings for the net. Band was noisy and there was some QRN so he was only 42 with me and had problems in copying me. KC4D came to help and we made the sched.
He called me for the net at 2307 and was now 54. I got 43 this time. Vernon, G0EGW was also there and made it with better report than me.
I understood Ed is looking for a possibility for 20m net as well. The 40m net maybe a bit too early and will perhaps get worse with Summer coming. We˙ll see.

GUESTS
G0EGW, Vernon Readhead; NP2D, Thomas Joseph a prospective Rotary member in the Palm Coast area of Florida. Email to Tom and the Palm Coast Rotary Club with the club meeting times and contact information..

Rotarians attempting to check in but not heard until later by the net: AE5EA Elwood Anderson.

The net participation continues to grow and we continue to reach more ROAR members and are now reaching some Rotarians that will become ROAR members. The growth is down to the email notification and word of mouth promotion of the net activities.

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 21st March 2017 NZ 80-m net on 3,693

0800z - 0830z Tuesday 21st March 2017 EUR net on 14,292
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 59+5 before dropping to 33 and gave me 59
Phil VK2MCB was 44
Klaus HB9CQS was 56-7 and gave me 54-5
Pertti EA7GSU was 54 at first building to 55-6 and gave me 55-7
Miika OH2BAD was 54-5 and gave me 56-7
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 33 and gave me 41-2
Vernon G0EGW was only 11 today
I went QRT at 0834z

From John G3OKT
QSL at 0605z gave SFI 73 A 2 K 3 sunspots zero (for the 7th successive day).
Very poor propagation today; just “voices in the noise” apart from OH2BAD who was 5.9 here. Woodpecker was S7 (4 S points down on usual!), but up to S9 at 0831.
VK4ZD, HB9CQS, G3LUW, EA7GSU, VK2MCB, VK3KCD, PA3AHC, F1CFA, G0EGW were all detected but I had almost no copy of any.
VK4ZD fluttered up to 5.1 at 0808z, giving 5.4/5 for EA7GSU in exchange for 5.4. Bill was actually stronger than either Pertti or Klaus!
HB9CQS Klaus was 2.1 at best – first to announce that VK2MCB’s XYL had suffered an accident and both had left for hospital. Don’t know the details but much concern and best wishes for Carole.
OH2BAD gave Bill 5.6/7 at 0818 and got 5.4/5 in return. Miika went QRT at 0820.
Klaus gave G3LUW 5.2, EA7GSU 5.4 and OH2BAD 5.6. Hardly a squeak from Pertti here at 0812 – gave 5.4/5 for Bill and 5.9 for Vernon. Pertti was only 1.1 here at 0823.
G0EGW got 4.1 from Pertti at 0825 (5.1 at 0832?) – Vernon was only 1.1 here, up to Q3 at 0827, then gone.
G3OKT was 5.3 with EA7GSU at 0835 as we both went QRT

That’s all for now.
