Good conditions for Europe;
not good for VK/ZL.
At 0605z QSL gave :- SFI 74 A 5 K 1 sunspots 26 (steady)
EA7GSU Pertti answered G3OKT’s CQ at 0600z; Pertti built to 5.8 here; gave me

Phil was not heard here but gave Pertti 4-5.3
PA3AHC got 5.5 from Jean
Pierre. Malcolm gave Pertti 4.3 in exchange for 5.5 + QSB. At one stage Malcolm
reached a remarkable 5.9+10dB here.
G4HCK heard only a few words from
Malcolm, and gave Jean Pierre 5.5 at 0638z.
HB9CQS got 5.7/9 from Pertti in
exchange for 5.4. Klaus and G3OKT exchanged 5.9+10dB. Klaus called VK3KCD but

5.1 at 0631z.
F1CFA gave EA7GSU 5.5, PA3AHC 5.5, VK2MCB 5.1, G4HCK 5.5 with
QSB and HB9CQS 4.2.
HB9CQS was 5.9++ with G4HCK. Nick said F1CFA and PA3AHC
were “just about here”.
VK2MCB was called by Pertti at 0630z but there was no
response – Phil was presumed QRT.
G3OKT left the net at 0638z.
Special Net 2100z – 2230z on 14.2952
Tuesday 20th June 2017
suggested by Phil VK2MCB
Things have not been good with Aus/NZ- Europe
as I don't need to explain. Bill is now back in Aus from his American adventure
and we think that it is worth a trial of short path to see things are any
Bill's (VK4ZD) original examination reveals the following for
possible short path times:
VK1 to G 2200-2230z
VK1 to HB 2230-2300z
to EA 2300-0030z
VK4 to G 2100-2230z
VK4 to HB 2130-2230z
VK4 to EA
So, if any of you stalwart Northerners are up for a trial on
Tuesday late your time, Bill will attempt to make contact with the UK (G
stations) Tuesday from 2100z and with HB and EA from around 2130z. Regrettably,
I can't make it this week at this time.
If you think it is possible, could
you advise, otherwise Bill will be sleeping overnight at Lockyer Waters for no
reason. I will attempt to do a trial this Sunday at 2200z (11 pm your time and
8am Monday our time) just to see if it is a possibility.
I know it is
difficult for Europe, so we don't expect too much but it would be fun if it
worked. Put it this way, we will call and see what happens. Hi Hi.
From Bill VK4ZD
We ended up on 14.293 clear
of QRM today at 2100z
Doug ZL1BFS was 55 and gave me 54
Klaus HB9CQS was
55 and gave me 54-5 (on the long path)
John G3OKT was 54 and gave me 55 on
the short path
Nick G4HCK was 54 and gave me 54-5 on the short path
G0EGW was 55-6 and gave me 58 on the short path
Pertti EA7GSU got propagation
around 2120z he was initially 53 building to 55 and gave me 41 building to 45
and then 37 with QRM
I went QRT at 2155z
From John G3OKT
very busy at 2100z hence lots QRM from S9 stations; propagation promising,
Woodpecker S9+20dB at 2107z on 14.2892; band became quieter but with QSB ca
EA7GSU was heard on CW at 2106z ca 5.5.9. Later came up to solid 5.6
HB9CQS beaming long path to ZL1BFS at 2108z was 5.9 here, and gave
Doug 4.4 and G3OKT 5.9
ZL1BFS was not heard here. Klaus had little copy of
Doug short path. At 2138z, ZL1BFS was heard by HB9CQS at 3.1 when QRM allowed.
Doug was 3.1 with Pertti at 2138z when QRM allowed.
VK4ZD long path was 5.4/5
with HB9CQS and 5.5 with EA7GSU at 2138. Pertti said Bill was “coming up”
G4HCK was 5.5 here; gave Pertti 5.7 in exchange for 5.6/7. Nick was 5.5 with
HB9CQS. Nick gave Bill VK4ZD 5.3/4 short path and was heard by Bill at 5.4
VK4ZD was 5.5 b/w here short path with QSB on Bill downwards every 2 secs, I
could hear Bill long path but weaker and “hollow sounding”. At 2145 Bill was
peaking 4.4 here on long path.
G0EGW pointing East gave VK4ZD 5.8 and got
5.6; gave G4HCK 5.7; gave EA7GSU 5.8
At 2133z I had “explosive QRM” but heard
G4HCK at 5.5 and Nick copied G3OKT at 5.7, Nick also copied HB9CQS at 5.8, as
I left the net at 2155z.
From Klaus HB9CQS
Many thanks, John. I am
glad that we managed on Tuesday evening. For Bill and Di it is 7 o’clock in the
morning so I wonder how often we will be doing this.
Like Pertti I can
switch between long path and short path within a few seconds and I did this many
times only to get confirmation that short path doesn’t work.
From Phil VK2MCB
Congratulations to Bill for making such good contacts at 2100z
We need now
to decide what to do in the future. Noting Bill VK4ZD’s success at 2100z I
suggest we add that as an additional net time for Sunday and Tuesday. But, given
the late timing for European members, we retain the 0600z timing as it gives
those ROAR members, mostly in Europe, who wish to make contact at this time the
opportunity to do so.
So, if we agree, I will be on the air for both times,
0600z and 2100z. If no one is there, it is little to lose as conditions are not
