ROAR Nets Report for 30th July and 1st August 2017

0530z - 0600z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Bill VK4ZD
John ZL2JPM was 56-7 and gave me 55
Doug ZL1BFS was 58 and gave me 59+10

0600z- 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Short Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Doug ZL1BFS was 58 and gave me 59+
Klaus HB9CQS was heard faintly on the short path

From John G3OKT
QSL data was SFI 70 (forecast to be 75) A 4 K 0 sunspots 12 (after 3 days at 0)
No VK/ZL but mixed propagation in Europe and some confusion as to best beam direction; The broadcast harmonic (Kazakhstan?) was strong at S7. Also there was much QRM from the IOTA contest which seemed to get going about 0645z.
YO9BC was heard calling CQ at 0558z at 5.7/8 QSB here; Coco gave me 5.8/9 but had to go QRT for visitors.
EA7GSU got 5.9 from Coco. Pertti was initially only 3.1 here but achieved a solid 5.7 later. Gave me 4.3, building to 5.6 at 0703. Pertti expects to be on the ROAR Net on Tuesday.
HB9CQS gave Coco 5.6/7 in exchange for 5.8/9. Klaus was 5.5 here initially but exchanged 5.9 b/w when beaming this way. Klaus had no copy of Pertti initially. Klaus called VK4ZD at 0630z but heard no response.
G4HCK was 5.5/6 with Klaus - Nick was hardly heard here in QRM.
Vernon G0EGW was also just heard but was too weak to copy.
Pertti tried Long Path to VK but heard no response.
PA3AHC appeared at 0705z and got 4.2 from Pertti with QSB down into the noise. Malcolm was not heard here.

F1CFA Jean Pierre apparently did not get into the Net :-
(to G3OKT and PA3AHC) "This morning, I had good copy of you John, of G4HCK and Malcolm with a report of 55.
YO9BC was on frequency at the beginning. Unfortunately it was a contest fight !
You were transmitting to HB9CQS and EA7GSU which I received 41 no more."

From Malcolm PA3AHC Thank you Jean - Pierre .
I also had to be happy with our single QSO until Pertti came up out of my noise at closing with 5/2 ; 4/3 !
" If at first you don't succeed then try try try again" (Robert Bruce )

From Nick G4HCK
Rather a lonely net today. I did manage to contact John Pierre, Klaus and Vernon. I did hear Coco and John (OKT) but it was a real struggle. After the net closed Pertti and Klaus came up in signal strength. It was interesting as I had to beam to the North Pole to hear Klaus at times – I wondered if he had popped home (Santa Klaus) to check everything was OK

From Bill VK4ZD
hehe. Dead as a doornail on both paths to Europe.

From Klaus HB9CQS
Net conditions: Deep QSB and for the Gs contest QRM. The skip cut most of the QRM out here.
Also, John's friendly voice was good at persuading the contesters to QSY.
I called you once SP at the start. Worked Coco while beaming VK SP.
Coco left quickly for his Sunday morning meeting. Other stations worked: John OKT, Nick, Vernon, Pertti but small signals.
Jean Pierre may have been there. Vernon closed the net at 06:57z

From Bill VK4ZD
Hi Klaus - Heard you faintly on the short path but too light for you to hear me.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,693
From John G3OKT who was Net Controller
G7OAI/P said Derek was disappearing in QSB; Bruce was 5.6; all else were 5.8/9
G3LUW was 5.9+20dB - the strongest station on the net. Brian reported that Margaret was still sore about the ribs; expected a Medical examination on Monday. All wished her well.
G3JJR was 5.8/9; heard G3LUW at 5.7; had problem with G3SZF in S8 noise
G2FUU was 5.9 here
G3SZF was 5.8
G0PCF was 5.8; heard Brian at 5.7/8
G0SQH faded right out with Tommy
G4LXD unusually 5.7; said G0SQH was 4.6 QSB;
G0EOB/M Fred a visitor in North Devon was 5.9 with Brian and 5.8 here. Very welcome and said all stations were good signals. We discussed venues of AGMs before the net closed at 0910z.

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz
Tommy G2FUU had said earlier that he would listen out for this net.

2230z - 2300z Informal Transcontinental net on 7.118 +/- QRM
From Ed N4EDT
The North American Transcon net opened on 40 meters, 7.188MHZ at 2230Z. The 40 meter band was very noisy and communications were difficult, but most on the net were by everyone on the net. At 2300Z, following the 40 meter net, activities were moved to 20 meters. The 20 meter propagation was long. Most everyone on the net had a good copy on some of the net participants but no one on the net could hear everyone. Many of the net participants logged into www.roarnetlogger.net prior to being heard by net control. The use of the net logger software facilitated at least 3 of participants efforts to join the 40 meter net. When the net moved to 20 meters, the messaging in net logger aided net operations. Shortly after opening on 20 meters, it was necessary to move down to 14.286 to avoid a very loud station that apparently was unaware of the net activities. The net logger messaging aided in the coordination of the frequency shift.
ROAR netlogger is available to all ROAR nets. For more information, contact ehtyler@icloud.com

0600z - 0630z Tuesday 1st August 2017 EUR net on 14,295.2
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was back from his holiday in Cairns QLD. He was anywhere from 54 to 57 depending on where my antenna was pointing and gave me 59 on the peaks. Phil heard a little from Coco and from Klaus but too weak to work.

From John G3OKT
At 0305z, QSL gave : SFI 72 (Rising) A 3 K 1 sunspots 0
YO9BC called CQ at 0555z; Coco was 5.5/6 here then, but we exchanged 5.9 b/w later when Coco was beaming towards Klaus.
EA7GSU said later that he had heard Coco at 3.1.
HB9CQS was 5.8/9 with Coco at 0602, but only 2.1 here until Klaus turned SP to VK when he was 5.7 here and gave me 5.5.
EA7GSU was heard calling VK4ZD on CW, but Pertti had no response.
Pertti gave Klaus 5.7 while only 4.2 here with slow QSB; at this stage G3OKT was only 1.1 with Pertti.
HB9CQS now 5.9 here with QSB down to 5.5
G0EGW heard Pertti at 5.8.9 and got 5.8. Vernon was only 4.1 here
EA7GSU and G3OKT now exchanged 5.6/7 b/w.
G3LUW came up at 0628z and gave Pertti 5.8 in exchange for 5.3-6 QSB from Pertti. Brian was 3.1 here. Pertti said what a nice day it was for rotating antennae!!
PA3AHC was heard by Pertti but not here.
I went QRT at 0632 just as OH2BAD Miika came in here at 5.7.

That’s all for now!
