ROAR Nets Report for 6th and 8th August 2017

0530z - 0600z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 58 and gave me 55
Phil VK2MCB was 58 and gave me 59+10

0600z- 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Short Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 56 and gave me 57
Klaus HB9CQS was heard faintly on the long path at 0636z

From John G3OKT
QSL at 0305z gave SFI 74 (steady) A 16 (red) K 3 sunspots 13 (steady)
BC harmonic was strong at zero beat with the IFROAR net - voice modulation was quite clear and at times intrusive. EU conditions were patchy and poor, coming up selectively at the end of the net. No VK/ZL. Some QRN, significant QSB.
At 0604z I heard YO9BC signing with HB9CQS and exchanging 5.8/9 b/w. Coco was 5.7 here and gave me 5.9. Klaus was initially 4.6 QSB here, but came up to 5.7 - giving me 5.5.
G4HCK Nick gave Klaus 5.5
EA7GSU gave Nick 5.7/8 and got 5.7. Pertti heard me at 5.5
G0EGW got 5.8/9 from Coco and gave 5.9. Vernon also gave EA7GSU 5.5, HB9CQS 5.9, G3OKT 4.4 and G4HCK 4.1. Vernon was peaking 5.4 here.
EA7GSU was 5.7 with QSB down to S0 here; Pertti gave G3OKT 5.3 fading down and also heard G4HCK 5.1 steady; Pertti said he heard nothing from other stations, but became a solid 5.7 here - the most stable signal of the net.
PA3AHC was not heard here but Malcolm faded up to 5.3 with Pertti and was "heard" by Coco.
G3LUW called in at 0626z; Brian was heard by Pertti at 4.1 to 5.7, and Pertti got 5.6 from Brian. Brian was just recognizable here, and by syllable-length bursts at S3 at 0635; by then Brian was 5.4 with Klaus.
HB9CQS and EA7GSU exchanged 5.8/9 b/w. At 0633 Klaus was solid 5.6 here and Pertti was coming up to 5.8. Pertti called CQ VK/ZL LP but had no response. Pertti said he had heard VK4ZD very weak on 40m before this net.
G0EGW was up to 5.5 here at 0640z and was 5.9+10dB with Pertti at 0642.
F1CFA gave Vernon 5.6 when Jean Pierre was 5.5 here, and gave G3OKT 5.2. Jean Pierre also heard Pertti at 5.9 - 4.1 "in bursts".
G4HCK was only 2.1 here at 0640. Nick was 5.2 with Jean Pierre
PA3AHC got 1.1 to 3.1 from Pertti at 0643
HB9CQS was 5.9 with Pertti; Klaus still 5.4 here
F1CFA have G3OKT 5.9 at 0647; Jean Pierre was 5.8 here and heard by Pertti at 1.1 to 5.7.
G0EGW commented it was " a lovely net" but had problems with Klaus. Everyone else was good, including 4.1 to 5.7/8/9 for G3OKT. Vernon was 5.9+10 with Pertti. Pertti was 5.9+with Nick.
EA7GSU was still a stable 5.7 here at 0655 - best solid signal of the net!
I left at 0700z when Klaus was still intermittent at 3.3!

From Nick G4HCK
What an interesting net today – QSB certainly played its part. One minute a station was 5.9 and the next minute 0. Once again my beam was working overtime as I turned it to try and establish a contact. The birds that sit on the beam have complained they were getting quite dizzy!! I have the builders here next week so I won’t be able to join the net next Sunday.

From Bill VK4ZD
Were the birds fighting against the rotator? Full wing spread?

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
I joined the net late at 0820z. Conditions on 80m were "reasonable"
G3LUW Brian was Net Control (Brian said that he couldn't hear me earlier on 20m)
G7OAI/P John was 5.9+10dB here (said I was 5.9+60dB!)
G3SZF Bob was 5.8
G0PCF Bruce was 5.7
G2FUU Tommy was unusually down this week at 5.7
G3JJR John
G3OKT promised to begin getting quotes for the 2018 AGM in the Llangollen area for the weekend of 10 - 13 May (3 nights)
G7OAI/P John will be net controller next week, 13th Aug. G3OKT will be Net Controller the week after on the 20th August

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,694 MHz

2230z - 2300z Informal Transcontinental net on 7.118 +/- QRM
From Ed N4EDT
The net opened on 40 meters, 7.188MHZ at 2230z. At 2300z the net moved to 20 meters, 14.288MHZ. The 40 meter net enjoyed lower noise levels but also had to confront poor propagation. Relays were needed and many of the ROAR members were first noted on the ROARNetlogger.net web site. Propagation on 20 meters was long but the signal were Q5. S7 to 10 over 9. On air comparisons were made between the effectiveness of the 20 and 40 meter nets. It was generally agreed that the 20 meter net enjoyed several benefits that offered the promise of expanding the net participation. This coming week will likely be the last 40 meter net this year and we will again move to 20 meters at 2300Z. I would like to encourage nets outside the US to log into www.netlogger.net with their callsign and we will attempt to contact you by callsign.

0600z - 0630z Tuesday 8th August 2017 EUR net on 14,295.2
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 55-6 and gave me 57-8
John G3OKT was the only European heard. He was peaking 54 with QSB and gave me 55. Well done John
Cubical Quads Rule. Weird though. John peeked when he beamed short path and I peaked when I beamed long path.

From John G3OKT
At 0305z QSL gave SFI 73 (constant) A 5 K 1 sunspots 11 (after 4 days at 13)
At 0600z, broadcast harmonic was <S1. Conditions very poor for EU but I was surprised to work VK!
YO9BC called CQ; Coco was 5.8/9 here, and heard Klaus respond "very strong"
F1CFA was 5.9 with Coco; Jean Pierre not heard here
G3LUW Brian was on frequency but not heard here
HB9CQS got 5.9+ with Coco by now, and gave 5.8/9. Klaus only 5.4 here, and said he heard no VK on Short Path
PA3AHC was on QRG, but didn't get into QSO
VK4ZD was suddenly heard here on Short Path at 4.2, peaking S5 Bill said I was the only Eu station he could hear (at S4). When Bill transmitted Long Path, he was only 2.1 QSB here.
VK3KCD was called in but no sign of Peter here.
HB9CQS was up to 5.6 at 0628 and gave G3OKT 5.4
I left the Net at 0630

That’s all for now!
