QSL figures : SFI 85 A 5 K 5(red) sunspots 47 (steady)
For the first half of the net, the band was just a noisy soup of snatches of
transmissions including music (!), unstable openings, fluttering QSB and
occasional QRN to S5. Woodpecker came in once only at S9+20dB at 0635z, but was
audible by clicks here long after that. It obviously caused much more of a
problem with others.
VK3KCD Peter was 4.1 here at 0630z giving Coco YO9BC
2.1, but neither was heard again.
OH2BAD was 4.3 here initially and never
stronger than 5.5. Miika thought he heard G3LUW but Brian was not heard here;
Miika gave VK4ZD 5.7.
ZL1BFS got 4.2 from Miika in exchange for 3.3. Doug was
2.2 here - first time heard here for months! Miika had copy of Klaus, Coco and
Jean Pierre - who gave Miika 5.5.
HB9CQS Klaus was only 3.2 here at 0652z and
gave 5.2 to Doug apparently in mistake for John ZL2JPM.
G0EGW at 0658z gave
5.7/8 for Bill, who said he could only hear Vernon with difficulty and in
bursts. Klaus gave Vernon 5.6 and gave 5.2-3 for G3OKT.
At 0700z the noise
level dropped and I caught a few seconds of VK4ZD at 4.3.
OH2BAD was 5.2 here
at 0703z.
HB9CQS gave VK4ZD 5.9+10dB and G0EGW 5.6 at 0705z. Klaus was 5.1
here.
EA7GSU said Klaus was 5.7/8 when last heard; Pertti was then 5.9+10db
with Klaus.
VK4ZD and G3OKT exchanged 5.5 b/w at 0706z and steady until the
net ended.
F1CFA was peaking 5.7 with VK4ZD at 0705z. Jean Pierre not heard
here nor by Pertti.
I had a brief failure of transmitter around 0718z
PA3AHC Malcolm was just heard here 1.1 at 0720z talking to Pertti.
EA7GSU was
5.9 here at 0721z; Pertti gave Vernon 5.9+10dB, G3OKT 5.7/8, HB9CQS 5.9, PA3AHC
5.9, YO9BC 5.5 and ZL1BFS 5.5.
OH2BAD gave Pertti 5.9, G3OKT 3.1 (Miika was
5.5 here), and had no copy of G0EGW.
HB9CQS at 0724 heard ZL1BFS at 5.5,
OH2BAD at 5.3, G3OKT 5.3 (Klaus was 5.1 here) and got 5.9+ from Pertti.
G0EGW
was 5.7 here at 0730z.
VK4ZD Bill said he would be on the Tuesday net but
then absent in Perth for 2 weeks.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT (net control)
G7OAI John
was 5.8, also using Hack Green SDR as an additional receiver. John
copied
G3OKT at 5.9+10-30dB QSB; had difficult copy of G3JJR at 1.9 in S9 noise; copied
G3SZF at 1.9, G2FUU at 5.9+10dB, and had no copy of Malcolm PA3AHC.
G3JJR was
5.9+10dB; John heard G7OAI at 5.8; said he could hear Malcolm at first only.
G3LUW was 5.9+20dB; Brian heard PA3AHC at 4.6/7 peaking 5.8
G2FUU Tommy was
5.9+10dB; heard G3JJR in the noise and G3LUW strong.
G3SZF was 5.9+10dB; Bob
was 5.9 with Brian.
PA3AHC was 4.5 here, 5.5 with Bob, heard me at 5.9 and
was heard well by Tommy.
G4LXD was 5.9+20dB b/w with me; heard G2FUU at
5.9+10dB, both G7OAI and G3JJR at 3.3, and G3LUW at 5.8. Bill was 5.9 via the
Hack Green SDR for John.
G0EGW Vernon came in here at 5.9+20dB at 0858z and
was able to hear Bill.
Tommy said that he would listen at 1700z for any
callers to the evening RIBI net.

From Bill VK4ZD
Signals
were almost non-existent
Klaus was the only readable signal heard.
Klaus
HB9CQS was 56 and gave me 55
From John G3OKT
Figures from QSL were SFI
87 A 22 (red) K 4 sunspots 23
According to the UK University of Lancaster,
there had been a significant Aurora at 0000z.
Apart from the broadcast
station on 14.300 at S3 and a German station at 5.5 on 14307, the band seemed
completely dead.
HB9CQS was then faintly heard at 0630z
EA7GSU was heard
on CW 5.1.9 at 0637z
PA3AHC was 2.1 with QSB at 0644z
VK4ZD floated up for
a few seconds at 0646z. HB9CQS responded at 1.1. Bill gave Klaus 5.6
EA7GSU
came up on SSB at 0650z at 4.1
VK2MCB Phil might (?) have been heard in
background at 0652z - Phil still
away in Europe (webmaster)
Nothing else was heard so I went QRT
at 0700z
From
Jean Pierre F1CFA to Pertti
The band was dead with that Aurora ( 0,00
UTC ). I just suspected your voice and heard your CW. HB9CQS burst suddenly to
55 for a few seconds and disappeared. I heard two peoples speaking on 7,132 MHZ
later. Was it Coco ? Suddenly a VK3 station appeared with a 58 signal. I think
that the 40 m band is much better on Tuesday. Why not ?
From Pertti EA7GSU to Jean Pierre
Yes, band
was like never before!! I heard you 41 at 0634hrs and called, but I was
obviously too weak. After you disappeared, I heard John, G3OKT on cw with 419
and we made it! I got 519 in return. For a couple of seconds I heard Bill VK4ZD
with 41 and called desperately back on ssb and cw but in vain!
At 0704 I
heard John’s cw again when he signed off. After that silence!!!
I dragged the
plug at 0726 without hearing a single stn anymore.
One day we will make it
again!
That’s all for now,
