ROAR Nets Report for 8th and 10th May 2016
0600z - 0630z Anzo Net on 7,110 From Bill VK4ZD Phil VK2MCB was 59+5-10 and gave me 59+10-20 VK4FJEG (visitor) was 59 0630z - 0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path From Bill VK4ZD The bands died horribly on this day. Doug ZL1BFS was 58-9 at his best and gave me 55-58. He intends to put a Mosely TA-33 12m in the air ASAP. Phil VK2MCB was 58 and gave me 59 Kim HL16RI called in at 0653z and gave me 55 and I gave him 57 I then contacted him using his own callsign HL4CCM with the same reports The only European station I heard was Pertti EA7GSU on cw (at 0708z) and he was 339 with bad fading From Brian G3LUW The sunspot numbers were : SFI=88 A=10 K=7 The 20m net was non-existent I worked Pertti EA7GSU and Miika OH2BAD. Both were very weak and affected by deep QSB. I had no copy on Jean-Pierre and Malcolm. I managed to tell Miika that we would all be away next weekend at the ROAR in RIBI AGM, which he relayed to Pertti 0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,6942 From John G7OAI I opened the net at 0800z, not really expecting a response, as my attempt to have a QSO with my brother-in-law at 0730z was unsuccessful - I could hear him, but he couldn't hear me.... But I was pleased to get an immediate response from Tommy & Brian, with reasonable reports. Bob was next, also with a good signal. I heard Malcolm call, but he couldn't hear me, but Tommy & Brian heard him initially, and exchanged a few words with difficulty. John, JJR, couldn't hear me, but I could hear him, so it looks as if Shropshire(-ish) is Not Good from Rochdale under less than optimum conditions. But Brian relayed to bring him in in turn. Finally Bruce called, another one who couldn't hear me well, but with the aid of Hack Green SDR, could hear us all. I have just checked and all bands are 'poor' owing to a major geomagnetic storm, so we did well, under the circumstances. G2FUU, Tommy, 5x8-9. G3LUW, Brian, 5x8-9. G3SZF, Bob, 5x7-8. PA3AHC, Malcolm, 5x3 down to 0x0. G3JJR, John, 5x7. G0PCF, Bruce, 5x6. Good to hear that Bruce's health is much improved. I closed the net at 0839z, as conditions were deteriorating, with much QSB. No net next Sunday, as most of us will be at the UK AGM in Cheshire. 1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.3115MHz From Pertti EA7GSU TransAtlantic net on Sunday May 8th at 1500 hrs utc: Calling, calling, calling - no answer. Around 11 min later I imagined to have heard the voice of Malcolm, PA3AHC. When that vanished I called again and thought to have heard him again. After one more transmission I let Malcolm understand ( if he heard me) that reading any transmission was impossible. I closed my station 18 min after the sched time. Band was practically dead apart a couple of UA stns. Next Sunday I will not be qrv because of a wedding celebration (not mine!). Greetings to the AGM 1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693 2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287/8 or 14.310 0700z – 0730z Tuesday 10th May 2016 NZ 80-m net on 3,693 0630z - 0700z Tuesday 10th May 2016 EUR net on 14,295.2 / 7,136 +/- Propagation Forecast at 0605z : SFI 89 A 33 (red) K 4 sunspots 68 (rising) From Bill VK4ZD Today was noticeably better than Sunday but propogation was very selective Klaus HB9CQS was 58-59+5 and gave me 59-59+10 Miika OH2BAD was 11 to me Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 55-6 and gave me the same report Phil VK2MCB was 56-8 and gave me 59 I understand that G3LUW and G3OKT were also on frquency but I was unable to detect them From John G3OKT Flat noise not touching the S meter at 0630; only one other fluttery signal on 20m! Woodpecker appeared at S7-8 only at 0651z. OH2BAD was heard at 5.7 here, giving 5.7 to each of G3LUW, HB9CQS and G3OKT. Miika could not hear VK4ZD; came up to 5.9 here by 0700z; Miika gave F1CFA 5.6/7 but nothing heard here from Jean Pierre. HB9CQS gave Miika 5.6/7; Klaus exchanged 5.9 b/w with G3OKT; F1CFA was 4.3 with Klaus before he said Jean Pierre had disappeared. G3LUW was just detectable here giving 5.8 for Miika in exchange for 5.7; Brian was a fluttery 2.1 here, only readable on the low spider antenna. VK4ZD was 5.7/8 with Klaus, briefly reaching 5.9+10dB but settling to 5.9. Nothing heard of Bill here. Later, Klaus gave Bill 5.9 down to 5.3 in QSB. VK2MCB was initially “not too strong” with Klaus; Phil and Klaus exchanged 5.3; when last heard, Phil reached 5.7/8 with Klaus; Klaus was 5.9 with Phil at 0655. PA3AHC Malcolm was a just detectable 1.1 here at 0658z, and was 5.3 with Miika in exchange for 5.6/7 Neither VK4ZD nor VK2MCB were heard here, though Klaus relayed that Phil heard me at 2.1. HB9CQS was down to 5.6 here at 0655z just as Klaus left for his other sked. As the net closed, Miika was called by DC0KA/portable on a river cruise in Romania. Apparently Miika was heared there at 5.9+30dB! That’s all for now, 73s from John G3OKT 11th May 2016. The ROAR AGM weekend is 12-15 May when Tommy G2FUU may be at home for the 80m Sunday net, and Nick G4HCK may be on 20m. If you wish to make any comment on these nets I suggest you send directly to Bill VK4ZD vk4zd@mainlink.net.au for inclusion on the IRFOAR website. |
