06:43 06:43 OH2BAD 20m USB 21 Miika
From John G3OKT
Propagation forecast at 0605z was SFI 15 A 15 (red) K 3 sunspots 17 (low)
(G3LUW explained his absence by a squall yesterday that had taken down his antenna).
EA7GSU was 5.9 b/w here at 0627z; later 5.7-9 on spider and 5.7-8 on doublet (in QSB)
VK2MCB was 3.3 with Klaus, but Phil was never heard here.
HB9CQS heard F1CFA at 3.2 and G3OKT at 4.3; Pertti at 5.9 and PA0SDZ at 4.3; Klaus was 5.4 here and 5.9+10dB with Pertti. At 0701z, Klaus was 5.5 here saying Phil was “very weak with QSB”, and by 0716z Klaus was 5.7 here.
OH2BAD reached 5.9+10dB here by 0712z; Miika “heard everyone” at 5.7-9 and was 5.9+5dB with Pertti; Miika gave 5.9+20dB at 0700z for G4HCK, G3OKT and EA7GSU.
G4HCK was 2-5.1-2 in QSB here, and could just hear Phil.
F1CFA gave VK2MCB 3-2.1, PA0SDZ 5.4 to 3.1 in QSB, G4HCK 3.1 and HB9CQS 5.2. Jean Pierre was only 4.1 here – gave G3OKT 5.5.
VK2MCB was relayed as saying that VK4ZD and VK4DI were in Tokyo en route to Seoul. Bill had been recorded in QRZ as working HL16RI on May 16th. Phil was still barely a squeak here at 0713z but was 5.5 with Pertti.
HB9CQS gave me 5.9 (I think!) as the net ended at 0721z.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
Seven stations on the net, about two S points less than usual, though G3LUW came up here later to S9+10dB.
G3LUW, Brian was net controller.
G2FUU Tommy was 5.9 here.
G7OAI/P was 5.9 here, fading to 5.6, and faded right out with G2FUU; John was 5.7 with Brian. G0SQH was 5.8; Derek gave G3LUW 5.6 and found all signals difficult in the noise.
G3SZF also found the band noisy. He gave G3LUW 5.7/8, G0SQH 5.6, G3OKT 5.9+30dB, and Bruce was “unusually good” at 5.5. G7OAI/P was in the hash.
G0PCF was 5.7 to 5.5 in QSB here but 5.9 with Tommy; Bruce had virtually no copy of G7OAI. G2FUU and G3SZF were good copy. Bruce was 5.6 with Brian.
All thanked John and Sue for their efforts to find the Hotel we used last w/e for the AGM.
Brian had heard from Diana G4MVV’s daughter that she was very unwell. Everyone expressed their concern and sent Diana their best wishes for her recovery.
Brian also reported that a French museum wished to arrange a CW sked using antique equipment on 40m. F6BWR, the contact, will confirm the date.
The net closed at 0846z, as Tommy said he would listen on 80m at 1700z, and Bob might listen for Pertti at 1500z on 20m.
1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz
From Pertti EA7GSU
For the time being, this is the last report of trying to establish an Atlantic net:
(Sunday May 22nd at 1500hrs on 14310 kHz)
I was calling on SSB and CW (14040 kHz) for about 15 minutes but nobody answered. Propagations are not open yet at that hour and I will retire for some time. If the band opens more later in the Summer, I will consider to have another go.
Thanks everyone for the support!
From Phil N9HWO
I was on 14.310 at 1500 UTC and at 2000 UTC on Sunday May 22, but band conditions were poor and I heard no one calling.
I was on the radio on Tuesday May 24 until 1700 UTC, so missed any traffic.
Note: I leave for Seoul at 1130 UTC tomorrow (May 25) and will be at the AGM on Monday. I look forward to seeing everyone else who attends, and I hope we have a lively meeting.
From John G3OKT
Thanks Phil, seems that Pertti was on 14.310 at 1500 utc on Sunday but as you (and he) say conditions were not good.
Have a great time at The Rotary Convention. Don't know anyone going from ROAR/UK but we still hope to make radio contact with Kim HL16RI.
Please pass on our regards from RIBI on Monday - we just had our AGM across the famous River Mersey from Liverpool - and we're alive and kicking. Do I hear rumor that the 2017 Convention will be in Canada? If so, I might hope to get there and catch up.
Best wishes to Bill VK4ZD and John ZL2JPM - they're doing a fine job, but sunspots will be way down for at least 2 years before we can expect to hear any great improvement!
73s from John G3OKT and Brian G3LUW (Secretary and Chairman, ROAR/RIBI)
From Pertti EA7GSU
When hunting for HL16RI, I came across KL7SB, Steve our area chief of NW USA. He is signing /VP9 and running pile - up’s almost all bands and all mode’s. Have a look!
1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693

Again conditions poor but Coco was 55 to 56 and Jean Pierre was much better than Sunday.

From John G3OKT
Sorry I was not able to be on 20m this morning - propagation forecast at 0310z was not very promising - lowest Sunspot count (13) for a long while, although the absorption figure A=4 was also low. SFI =97.
That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
