John G7OAI has since reported :
I took advantage of the fine Wx yesterday and made good progress, successfully installing the new mast & aerial, and then today trimmed & tuned the system, which is now working on 40 & 80 without the ATU. Noise level is unchanged, perhaps a bit worse, but hopefully the signals will be better...
I am committed to RAYNET next w/e, but could take the net the following Sunday, the 20th.
Re. the car door problem, the central locking wouldn't release the front passenger door. The garage took a day to break into it, remove the lock assembly and replace it with a new one. Odd that the door that gets much more use - the driver's side - is fine. It seems to be a VW fault, usually the same door...
Normal service has been resumed.

1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz
From Pertti EA7GSU
Here is my report of the Atlantic net on Sunday March 6th at 1500hrs utc on 14310 kHz:
It was actually on 14.311 MHz because of the ARRL contest crowding the band and still we had a strong station on both side of our channel.
I started on the hour and after a couple of shouts the faithful Bob, G3SZF came back but very weak. As I was beaming 300°, I had to turn to N 00° and it helped several S-units the report. He was 58 and I got 59. This was followed by an other faithful, Malcolm, who exploded in 59 and was reading me well, too.
After several calls in vain we agreed to quit for the day and I promised to be calling in a week again. Sorry Phil, we didn’t make it yet!
The closure took place at 1518 hrs. 73 n gl in hunting

From Phil N9HWO
re TransAtlantic Net at 1500z on Sunday on 14.310MHz
At 1500z I attempted to listen on 14.310 but the band was filled with a contest and I didn’t hear any ROAR QSOs or calls.

1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693
G2FUU Tommy said earlier that through absence, he could not listen for any callers.

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287/8
From Phil N9HWO
At 2000 UTC all I heard was contesters.
Conditions seemed to be good and I heard several European stations, but the contesters overrode everything else. I will try again next Sunday.

The forecast was grim but the net was probably timed just right.
G3LUW Brian was just heard at 0730 and still only 2.1 at 0802z.
VK4ZD exchanged 5.5 b/w with G3LUW. At 0734, Bill was just bucking the S meter between 2.1 and 3.4, and gave me 5.5 at 0735z. By 0738, Bill was a solid 5.6 here, peaking 5.7 by 0748 but then started going down again. By 0758 Bill was 5.3/5 in QSB and 4.3 at 0807z.
HB9CQS never got strong here : 2.1 initially, 4.1 on the spider antenna (low noise) at 0750, though Bill copied Klaus at 5.9+5dB.
G3LUW gave Bill 5.6/7 at 0744 but Brian heard no sign of Klaus.
PA3AHC was called in by G3LUW but no copy of Malcolm here. Malcolm heard Bill at 5.4 and got 5.5.
F1CFA was heard by Bill at 0753 but I heard nothing of Jean Pierre here. Jean Pierre gave Bill 5.7 and got 5.6 in return.
YO9BC came in at 5.9+10dB here. Coco gave Bill 5.8 to 5.9+10dB in QSB and got 5.8 from Bill; gave F1CFA 5.8/9; gave G3LUW 5.8 and got 5.9; but Coco could barely hear G3OKT.
Klaus said he was copying me at 0805z when I left the net, but not Coco.

From Brian G3LUW
After this morning’s net, Jean-Pierre suggested we try 40m. There were good signals between F1CFA, HB9CQS & G3LUW on 7138 kh/s No other station was heard.

That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
