Roar Nets June 5th - June 7th 2016

ROAR Nets Report for 5th and 7th June 2016
0600z - 0630z Anzo Net on 7,110
0630z - 0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From John G3OKT
QSL propagation predictions at 0610z on 5/6/16 were SFI 80 A 4 K 2 sunspots zero!
The net was characterized by widely varying reports, and both ways across Europe, including serious QSB and QRN (to S5 in the UK). There was no copy of VK here at all until 0717z, but at 0724z VK2MCB was 5.3 b/w with G3OKT.
EA7GSU was in slow QSB from 5.1 to 5.7; I heard Pertti give Peter VK3KCD 5.3, YO9BC 5.8-9, HB9CQS 5.8, G3LUW 5.8-9, and F1CFA 5.8 in exchange for 4.1, while Pertti was 5.4 here in QRM
YO9BC was 5.7 here, and initially gave me 5.5. Coco went QRT about 0652z.
G3LUW was unusually clear here at 5.3. Brian gave Coco 5.6; gave Pertti and Miika 5.9.
HB9CQS Klaus got 4.3 from Coco and gave 4.4 in QSB; gave 5.7 for VK2MCB and got 5.9 from Phil at 0724z; gave 4.3 for VK3KCD Peter; gave 5.7/9 for EA7GSU, gave 4.3 to 5.4 for G3LUW; gave 5.9 for G3OKT and got 5.5-9 +QSB; gave 2.1 for F1CFA, and gave 5.8 for OH2BAD.
F1CFA was not heard by YO9BC; Jean Pierre was initially only 1.1 here
OH2BAD was very strong at 5.9+15dB with both G3LUW and G3OKT; Miika heard all Europeans, including the G’s and PA3AHC and F1CFA, at 5.9. Miika gave Coco 5.7.
VK3KCD gave G3LUW 5.3 and got 2.2. Peter was not heard here
G4HCK was just heard at 2.1 with poor copy here under severe QRN; Nick was 5.5 with EA7GSU.
PA3AHC was just heard here, but no copy; Malcolm was initially 1.1 with EA7GSU but then Pertti gave Malcolm 5.9+10dB at 0702! Malcolm had also said that he had no copy of Pertti; Malcolm got 5.2 from F1CFA.
F1CFA was 5.9+ with EA7GSU at 0710z.
EA7GSU gave VK2MCB 5.6 when not a squeak was heard of Phil here! Pertti earlier gave G3OKT 4.1 but was 5.7 here at 0705z.
OH2BAD is to be congratulated on persisting through a pile-up to make contact with HL16RI on 30th May on 20m CW.
G3OKT and G4HCK had listened often during the Rotary Convention in Seoul but suffered the inconvenience of the extreme time shift. FACEBOOK had been used but probably to little effect, including an intriguing entry of which the content was apparently withdrawn by Diane VK4DI?
EA7GSU closed the net at 0725z.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
G3OKT was Net Control under unusual conditions as per the poor propagation experienced on 20m – very deep QSB
G3LUW 5.9 b/w with G3OKT but said at first that Tommy was weak and QSB’ing out.
G2FUU was then 5.9 with Brian and 5.9+10dB here.
G3JJR was 5.7 to 5.9+10dB here in QSB; John heard Brian fluttering from strong to “out”, and “solid but weak” for Tommy.
G3SZF was 5.7-9 here; Bob said Brian disappeared on occasion; Bob gave G3OKT 5.7/9 and down to 5.5 in QSB, and had difficulty with John JJR going up and down in the high noise. Bob may miss next week’s net if he is still clearing up the Rotary Dragon Boat event!
Brian mentioned that he had made contact with the Rotary Convention station HL16RI three weeks earlier when it was testing SSB on 15m.
News of Diana G4MVV – Brian said she was unwell and in hospital in Winchester.
John JJR said he had information on Stratford for Bob re the 2017 AGM.
The net was closed at 0840z, under conditions including an unusual steady S5 noise level here.
1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz
1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693
G2FUU, Tommy, had said earlier that he wouldn’t be able to listen for this net.
2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287/8 or 14.310
0700z – 0730z Tuesday 7th June 2016 NZ 80-m net on 3,693
0630z - 0700z Tuesday 7th June 2016 EUR net on 14,295.2 / 7,136 +/-
From John G3OKT
YO9BC Coco was initially a steady 5.7 here in spite of his antenna still pointing towards Korea. He gave G3OKT 5.2-5 in a noisy band with heavy QSB. Coco heard VK2MCB at 5.3 to 5.5 and got 4.1 from Phil via Klaus. VK2MCB was not heard here at all.
HB9CQS gave Coco S7-8 to S3; Klaus was 5.4 here and reported that VK2MCB was 5.5 with him, and that he had also heard EA7GSU.
EA7GSU gave 5.7/9 QSB for HB9CQS, 5.9 for YO9BC, 5.1 for VK2MCB, 5.9 for F1CFA and 4.1 (difficult) for G3OKT. Pertti was 3.1 here initially, but getting G3OKT better at 5.4 at 0645z. By 0650, Pertti was down to 2.1 (not touching the S meter) and disappeared under heavy noise. At 0653 Pertti said F1CFA had a good pipeline to Spain!
HB9CQS gave G3OKT 5.6 in exchange for 5.7 as Klaus left the net at 0642.
F1CFA – no sign of Jean Pierre here.
PA3AHC was just heard but with no copy at 0645. Malcolm was 4.1 with Pertti at best, fading into the noise.
YO9BC said at 0750 that Pertti had come up from 5.1-5 to a fantastic 5.9+15dB! However VK2MCB was 5.4 to S0 in QSB with Coco. Coco described the band as “ground noise very low – under S1 – with no QRN” as he faded right out at 0650!
VK2MCB Phil was not heard here at all.
The net closed at 0655 – Pertti said he would be on net next Sunday if he is able to put his antenna up again!
That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
