Roar Nets June 12th - June 14th 2016
ROAR Nets Report for 12th and 14th June 2016
0600z - 0630z Anzo Net on 7,110
0630z - 0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From John G3OKT
QSL predictions at 0610z on 12/6/16 were SFI 88 A 10 K 2 and sunspots 40 (rising)
Better propagation for Europe and low QRN and background noise, but still no VK/ZL here.
G3LUW called CQ at 0626.
EA7GSU became net control for Europe. Brian and Pertti exchanged 5.9 b/w. Pertti was relying on a dipole – his beam was down for repair.
OH2BAD was 5.9 with G3LUW who had no copy of PA3AHC, and could just hear G4HCK and G3OKT. Miika was 5.9+15dB here and heard all Eu stns at 5.9 including PA3AHC at 5.9+10dB, HB9CQS at just 5.9, and EA7GSU at 5.9
G4HCK was just hearable here at 4.1. Nick said OH2BAD was 5.9; G3LUW and G3OKT were just heard, and Nick got 5.5 from Pertti.
PA3AHC was just heard here but no copy.
VK2MCB was copied by HB9CQS. No sign of Phil here at 0640 nor at 0700; Phil was 5.5 with Pertti and still fully copied by him at 0700; gave G3LUW 3.1 when Brian was 4.1 here.
HB9CQS was 5.9 here and 5.7 with EA7GSU.
VK3KCD was called by Klaus (no response heard here) - got 5.5 and Klaus gave Peter 5.4. Klaus was the only station Peter could hear so he went QRT at 0640. However, EA7GSU could hear Peter at 4.1.
F1CFA Jean Pierre was referred to but no copy here.
Woodpecker appeared at 0647 at S9+20dB!
OH2BAD had no sign of VK stations. Miika mentioned that HL16RI had made 1390 QSOs.
EA7GSU developed heavy QSB here at 0650 – average 5.6, and down to 5.5 at 0700. Pertti said G3OKT was 5.7 to 5.3
PA3AHC was previously heard OK by HB9CQS but Malcolm disappeared at 0658. However Klaus continued to the hear the three G stations at 5.7/8.
Sorry, but G3OKT will be away next Sunday.
From Doug ZL1BFS
I listened for about 20 minutes. I was able to copy Phil VK2MCB about 5.8, but heard absolutely no-one else, so I switched off and took comfort from our fireplace in the lounge. MUFs to all stations in Europe were between 12 and 13MHz. We’ll just have to wait until October.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G7OAI/P who was Net Control
After a brief exchange with G3LUW, I opened the net at 0800Z, with some competition from a continental station on 3.8920, a penalty for being high up and away from habitation! We were soon joined by John, G3OKT, Derek, G0SQH and Tommy, G2FUU. Generally good reports all round so far, if a bit down on what we have been used to over the last year or so. John G3JJR and Bob G3SZF completed the net initially.
It seemed that today I was the fortunate one, with hardly any wind, patches of blue sky and 15 deg, with most of the other members reporting wet and dreary conditions.
Malcolm PA3AHC called in, but only myself & Tommy could hear him. He gave me 4x3, and I copied him 5x4, but QSB took him out altogether a couple of times, but at least we managed to exchange reports this time. I called him in a couple of times later, but nothing further was heard.
Finally Bill, G4LXD reported in, to complete the line up today. We enjoyed a good net.
G3LUW - 5x8, but deep QSB towards the end.
G3OKT - 5x9+40
G0SQH - 5x7 (5.9 with G3OKT)
G2FUU - 5x7 (5.7 to 5.9 in QSB with G3OKT)
G3SZF - 5x7 (5.8 with G3OKT)
G3JJR - 5x5 (5.9 with G3OKT)
PA3AHC - 5x3, but lost in QSB.
G4LXD - 5x7. (5.8 with G3OKT)
I closed the net at 0853z.
From John G3OKT
G3LUW and G3OKT exchanged 5.9 b/w initially, but Brian QSB’d right out at 0834z – most unusual.
Likewise, both G3JJR and G2FUU said Brian went out at the end of the net. Tommy volunteered to be Net Control next week in the absence of G3OKT; also the following week in necessary.
Tommy made a valuable comment on the downward solar cycle – he could not remember a complete drop out of VK/ZL over the last 50 years. He personally was not interested in Echolink. If his Quad remains u/s, he would use a simple dipole.
1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz
1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693
G2FUU, Tommy, had said earlier that he would listen for this net.
2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287/8 or 14.310
0700z – 0730z Tuesday 14th June 2016 NZ 80-m net on 3,693
0630z - 0700z Tuesday 14th June 2016 EUR net on 14,295.2 / 7,136 +/-
Bill VK4ZD had said from HK : “If it is possible I will be on the net on Tuesday but no guarantees”.
Phil VK2MCB had said “I won’t be on Tuesday as I am interstate all this coming week. So, unless Bill is on air Tuesday, it may only be Peter in Australia on the net.
From John G3OKT
The QSL forecast at 0610z was SFI 91 A 9 K 2 sunspots 27 (low)
Noisy band, much QSB and VKs not heard at all in the UK.
YO9BC (called CQ) and G3OKT were 5.9+ b/w; Coco got 5.7 with QSB from Pertti.
EA7GSU was 5.6 here initially, developing deep QSB from 2.1 to 5.4 at 0707z when G3OKT was only just readable with him. Klaus said Pertti was 5.9+ at 0709 compared to being “unreadable” at 0630!
VK4ZD Bill was apparently only heard by Pertti and Jean Pierre, stronger at 0644z.
F1CFA was 5.7 with QSB here; Jean Pierre got 5.9 from Pertti and Coco; gave G3OKT 5.7; gave VK4ZD 3.1; gave PA3AHC 5.8 and gave YO9BC 5.9.
G3LUW was 5.9 with F1CFA, 5.8/9 with Pertti and was 5.5 b/w here. Brian could not hear VK4ZD.
PA3AHC was 4.1 here and gave G3OKT 5.4 (?) and F1CFA 5.5-7 (?). Malcolm reached 5.6 b/w with Pertti, but faded into the noise here at 0703. Pertti also faded right away here at the end of the net. Malcolm had QSB with F1CFA :- 5.2 to 5.6 at 0705.
VK3KCD Peter was heard weakly by EA7GSU, but was not heard here at all.
HB9CQS and G3OKT were 5.9 b/w throughout the net – Klaus was even 5.9+10dB here at 0723z, but typically only 2.2 with F1CFA. Klaus left for another net at 0644z but returned at 0654 – gave Pertti 5.4 to 5.6 but had no copy of VK4ZD even in (CW?) response to Pertti’s CW.
The net closed at 0715z.
That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
