ROAR Nets Report for 17th July and 19th July 2016

0500z - 0530z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Bill VK4ZD
Too noisy for a QSO at Phil's QTH today so we went to 20m.

0530z - 0630z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 57 and gave me 59
Coco YO9BC was 55-6 peaking 57 here at 0518z. He gave me 54-5
Pertti EA7GSU was 54-5 and gave me 53-4
Brian G3LUW 33-44 with a brief peak to 55
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 22-33 here
Klaus HB9CQS was 57 and gave me 55
Miika OH2BAD was 22 here
Henk VK2GWK was 56 at 0606z and gave me 54
Nick G4HCK was 11 here
We decided to try an 0600z start on Tuesday due to propogation building
at the end of the sched at Phil's QTH.
I went QRT at 0635z

From Brian G3LUW
I listened from 0520. I heard Coco YO9BC, but he did not hear me Pertti, EA7GSU appeared at 0530. His signal varied from 3&3 to 5&9. Klaus HB9CQS varied up to 5&9
Pertti told me that Phil VK2MCB was reading me at 3&2, but I had no copy at all.
At 0600 Miika OH2BAD called at 5&9+ I exchanged 5&4 with Henk VK2GWK at 0610
A short 5&9 burst from Jean-Pierre at 0612 then nothing. Miika gave me 5&9. Pertti and Klaus were copying me. Pertti was 55 on the back of his beam, but very strong when he beamed North. I had no copy from Malcolm PA3AHC or Nick G4HCK.
It was decided that the net would start at 0600z on Tuesday and next Sunday onwards.
An e-mail from Phil VK2MCB subsequently confirmed :
….. of a change to the timing of the Tuesday and Sunday 20 metre (14,295.2 kHz) Europe ANZO net that was agreed by all net participants on air yesterday.
As signals were observed to be higher slightly later in the net, we agreed to slip the net start time by 30 minutes to 0600Z/UTC. This will apply from the net on 19 July. Hopefully this will lead to a better outcome for all.

From Phil VK2MCB
Poor conditions again. Bill VK4ZD and I exchanged 59 reports and Klaus was also 59 and gave me 58. Coco was 59 hearing me 55 and Pertti and I were both 53 as was Jean-Pierre. Henk VK2GWK and I exchanged 55 reports. While I was not copied by other stations I did copy Brian G3LUW 53, Nick G4HCK 44 Malcolm 22 and Miika 22.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,693
From Brian G3LUW
I was in charge of the 80m net. Only Tommy G2FUU, John G3JJR and Bob G3XZF
were there. Bill G4LXD called in just before the net came to a close.

From John G7OAI
Good morning gentlemen...
Firstly, I can run the 80m net next Sunday, having been absent for the last two weeks. Secondly, my cobweb type antenna is now in service. Just need the band to wake

From Brian G3LUW
Hi John, I think we had better leave it to Tommy. He always does the 4th Sunday. We do need someone for the following week (5th) that’s the 31st. Look forward to hearing your new setup. I have totally replaced both feeders, and things are back to normal. The co-ax was completely black with the centre soldered to the outside sheaf.

1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693

Pertti EA7GSU built from 22 to 44-55 and gave me 51
Klaus HB9CQS was 22
John G3OKT was 22
Brian G3LUW was 22-33
Very disappointing considering the numbers
Please note that I will be off air until I am mobile again.
I am having my right hip replaced on this Friday, 22nd July.

From John G3OKT
QSL data at 0305z was SFI 107 A 4 K 1 sunspots 68 (rising)
OH2BAD was 5.9 at 0600z, rising to 5.9+15 dB at 0623z. Miika heard me at 5.9+.
G3LUW Brian was 5.9 with Miika and fluttering 4.1 here; Brian couldn’t hear F1CFA.
F1CFA was 5.7 with Miika but only just heard here (no copy). Jean Pierre gave both G3LUW and G3OKT 3.1. Jean Pierre suddenly came up here to 5.4 at 0625 on the magnetic loop.
EA7GSU was faintly heard on CW first; then got 5.9 from OH2BAD; Pertti gave me 4.1 to 5.7 and became a steady 5.7 here (5.8 on the spider when beaming this way). Miika gave Pertti 5.8
PA3AHC was heard by Miika but not here. Malcolm and Jean Pierre exchanged 5.5 b/w.
HB9CQS gave me 5.9 to 5.7 in QSB; Klaus was 5.9 here and gave Miika 5.7; Klaus gave Pertti 5.7 to 5.5 in QSB, and gave 5.7 for Miika. VK2MCB was very weak (4.3) with Klaus who got 5.3 from Phil.
VK4ZD was heard by Pertti at 5.1; Bill gave Pertti 5.5 but Bill was not heard here nor by Brian G3LUW. Miika also had no copy of Bill or Phil in VK.
VK2MCB was heard by F1CFA at 0625z at 5.4; Jean Pierre also gave PA3AHC 5.5, gave HB9CQS 2.1 and gave OH2BAD 5.4. Phil was not heard here.
EA7GSU gave Malcolm 4.1 to 5.3 in QSB at 0633z. Pertti gave VK2MCB 5.7 at 0622; gave G3LUW 5.6 and got 5.4; gave HB9CQS 5.9 with slight QSB; and was still a solid 5.7 here.
Klaus noted from his experience that Denmark typically heard VK at 2100z, Klaus heard VK on short path at 2200z.
F1CFA and G3OKT exchanged 5.5 b/w as I left the net at 0636z

From Phil VK2MCB
Well the 30 minute later start time did not work well, but it was due to propagation conditions rather that time I believe. This was based on Klaus only being 53 in the Canberra region rather than is normal 59. Klaus gave me 43 rather than the usual 56-7.
John G3OKT, Malcolm PA3AHC and Miika OH2BAD were not heard at all. Pertti and I exchanged 57 reports while Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 52 and gave 54

From Les PA0SDZ
Tks, John, for the draft report. Unfortunately I missed the new beginning time at 06.00 instead of 05.30 so I listened, called once and left at about 05.50 on Tuesday (this morning). Next time better! 73, Les, PA0SDZ.

That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
