Roar Nets July 10th - July 12th 2016

0500z - 0530z Anzo Net on 7,110
From Bill VK4ZD
No contacts on 40m today. Phil was at a birthday party :)

0530z - 0630z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 56-7 peaking to 58 and gave me 58-9
Coco YO9BC was 22 here
Klaus HB9CQS was 11
Phil and I had a long chat

From John G3OKT
QSL figures at 0310z were SFI 92 A 14 K 2 & sunspots 63 (prev. days 0, 23, 11, 25, 55)
An LU0 continuously calling “CQ contest” was a major problem throughout the net – all the following reports refer to pauses pauses of this station who was S9+10dB here, even after he moved on request from 14.2958 to 14.2978.
OH2BAD and G3OKT exchanged 5.9 b/w. Miika gave both Klaus and Pertti 5.9
EA7GSU and G3OKT exchanged 5.7 b/w; Pertti gave Miika, 5.9 but had no copy of VK4ZD.
VK4ZD and I exchanged 5.3. As Pertti commented, the band initially seemed open worldwide but closed around 0600z.
F1CFA gave Miika 5.8, got 5.7-9 from EA7GSU, gave G3OKT 5.1 and gave Pertti 5.3.
YO9BC Coco was a steady 5.8 here throughout.
VK2MCB Phil was mentioned by Bill but not heard here.
HB9CQS was 5.9 with Pertti but strangely only 4.1 here. Klaus received me “reasonably well” and came up to 5.7 at 0628 and gave me 5.6.
PA3AHC was recognizable but no copy here. Malcolm was 5.6/7 with OH2BAD and 5.9+20dB with Pertti at 0624z!
ZL2JPM was heard by Klaus but no sign of John here.
G4HCK was just a whisper in the noise here at 0612; Nick was 5.9 with Pertti.
Klaus will not be on the net on Tuesday.
Apologies, G3OKT will have to miss this net next Sunday.
From Doug ZL1BFS (to Pertti) I listened Sunday Night (your morning) but heard only Bill & Phil, and didn’t bother to come on myself

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,693
From John G3OKT who was net control.
G3LUW Brian was only 5.5 to 5.7 here in QSB initially, but repaired a feeder and came up to 5.9+5dB. Brian gave G3SZF 5.7 down to nothing in QSB, increasing to 100% copy at 0845z; gave Tommy 5.5; and had difficulty with Derek G0SQH.
G3JJR John was 5.9+10dB here on his new transceiver. Strong signal but suggested that the new microphone has a slight mid-audio range “hollow” resonance. John said Brian was not too strong initially; Tommy was only 4.8 with QSB down into noise. Not getting much of Derek; heard Bob just about 100%;
G2FUU Tommy was 5.9 here; gave me 5.9+10dB. Tommy said Brian has been weak for several weeks.
G3SZF Bob was 5.9 here; gave Tommy 5.9; was not getting G0SQH, G3LUW nor G2FUU very well.
G0SQH and G3OKT exchanged 5.7/8 b/w in QSB. Congratulations to Derek in gaining two sapphire PHF awards ! Derek was not readable most of time by G2FUU.
A good net in spite of the conditions, a lively discussion; G3OKT closed the net at 0854z.

1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8 or at 1500z on Sunday on 14287kHz or 14.310MHz

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287/8 or 14.310
From Pertti (to Doug ZL1BFS)
I am trying to hear you later today at 2100utc on our usual frequency, just in case . I hope all is fine with you and enjoy the Sunday evening……..(later) - Hi Doug, we made it. Your sigs were clear but QRM by a BC stn harmonics ( it is a Tajikistan BC on abt 4MHz). My straight key proved to be rusty, must clean the contacts, hi! Sigs not strong enough for ssb, though.
From Doug ZL1BFS to Pertti : I heard you R5 on the very first and very last overs, Probably about S2 or 3. However, the middle overs were no better than R2. There must have been a QSB cycle, because you were not making it through the noise. I guess what I need to do is get my beam up, so that I can focus my sigs (and reception) in one direction, not bi-directional as I have with a co-linear.
It was very good, never-the-less to be able to hear you at all. I also had trouble with my keyer. At one stage it started sending a string of dots which I couldn’t stop. Then I paddled a bit to ensure it was clear before I carried on. Sorry for that.

From Bill VK4ZD
Well done to you both. The signals at the standard time were missing in action :

From Pertti EA7GSU
The only way to communicate was SLOW CW. Not even the slowest speed by my el-bug wasn’t good. And all this made me notice that my “hand writing” on straight key is posted and so are the contacts of my old wartime key, hi!

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 12th July 2016 NZ 80-m net on 3,693

0530z - 0600z Tuesday 12th July 2016 EUR net on 14,295.2 / 7,136 +/-
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 58 and gave me 59
Coco YO9BC was 33 peaking 44 here but he did not hear me
I could hear Coco adressing Les PA0SDZ, John G3OKT, Malcolm PA3AHC andBrian G3LUW I believe
Pertti EA7GSU built from 54 to 55 and ultimately 56 (beaming to NA) and
gave me 55 building to 57-8

After the net Phil and I had a chat with Butch WA4RDX with 59 reports
At the end Pertti EA7GSU was 11 with my quad looking to NA.
Phil VK2MCB had a viable signal to Pertti.

From John G3OKT

Klaus HB9CQS said on Sunday that he could not be on the net today.
Figures from QSL at 0305z : SFI 95 A 11 K 3 sunspots 62
YO9BC called CQ at 5.7 here;
PA0SDZ came back giving Coco 5.5 and getting 5.3 QSB; Les was 5.2 here with QSB to zero.
EA7GSU was just heard to send “….by 1”on CW Pertti gave Coco 5.7.
PA3AHC was heard by Coco at 4.3/4. Malcolm was not heard here.
G3LUW was 4.1 with EA&GSU, or 5.8/9 when Pertti beamed North. Pertti was then 5.9 here while Pertti gave me 5.3. Brian had no copy of me but could just hear Malcolm. Brian was 5.5 with YO9BC.
G3LUW suddenly appeared in fast QSB (like a revolving door!), but still only S1
YO9BC now heard Les at 5.7 instead of the earlier report of 5.4.
EA7GSU was now 5.7 here, giving me 5.5 on the spider quad; however Pertti was back to 5.1 at 0556z giving Malcolm 4.1. There was just a trace of Malcolm here.
VK4ZD was recognizable but no copy.
F1CFA was said by Pertti to be on frequency but Jean Pierre no heard here.
PA0SDZ and Pertti were both back to 5.1 here at 0556z with severe QSB. Again I caught Bill’s voice but difficult to copy. Les gave Pertti 5.2/3, Les was 2.1.
EA7GSU and G3OKT exchanged a stable 5.6/7 b/w as the net closed at 0602z.

From Les PA0SDZ Poor conditions this morning. I think I heard Bill VK4ZD very faintly and also heard his call in CW at about 06.00 hours, but no contact. However at 06.29 I had on 14.278 a QSO with VK6WC, John near Perth, just after I heard G3LUW, Brian, having a QSO with him. John was 5.3 and gave me 5.2. This sort of thing makes our hobby permanently interesting!
From Pertti EA7GSU My contribution to the morning meeting: It started with foggy noises resembling human voices, of which I recognised Coco with 21 and yourself with 31. I tried CW and heard briefly Bill’s voice 31. He had noticed my CW but then he disappeared. Brian, G3LUW came with 21 which later grew to 58/9. I was beaming to N and heard Malcolm with 41 and got the same back. Les PA0SDZ had better signal but only 51 and he gave me 52/3. After EU members went QRT, I turned my beam to 270 - 300° and was calling Australians. Phil was having QSO with a W - station and was 53. He later got a copy of me and gave 41 report. I heard again Bill but he was not readable. I signed at 0626utc.
The strange thing has been for some time that I have best reception when pointing about 290° and 300 - 320° is the window for W’s!!

That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
