From Nick G4HCK
Where was everyone – I contacted 2 or 3 stations and that was it !!
Conditions were really poor. I am hoping that father Christmas will bring me a present of good propagation for Christmas day but understand there is no official net on this day. However if all goes to plan I may just switch on the rig to see if anyone else is having a look at 14.295.2 at the normal time on Christmas morning. If we don’t talk before, have a good Christmas.

0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,695
From John G3OKT who initiated the net as Net Control but gave over to Brian G3LUW.
Excellent conditions on 80m today – many very strong signals from Europe.
G3JJR John was 5.9+10dB
G3LUW 5.9+30dB said everyone was 5.9 except Malcolm
PA3AHC best signal ever at 5.9. Gave me 5.9+20dB.
G7OAI was at home QTH today. He 5.9 here. Could hear LUW and OKT direct but other stations best heard by Hack Green SDR, rather than through S9+10dB noise!

G2FUU
G4LXD explained how he had challenged his Club with instructions on how to hear the ROAR nets via SDR/Hack Green
G0SQH I left the net early.

From Bill G4LXD
I have published notes on how to use Hack Green on our club website and they can be accessed via the link below : -

I was roundly mocked by one of our members as one who might imitate Hancock asking "How was the weather in China ?" so I was forced to throw down the gauntlet.
In open meeting I promised to pay £1000 into Foundation when he did the training joined ROAR as a full time member.
I am spending the money as I don't expect a call on it !

From VK3KCD
Had a nice contact with Klaus HB9CQS last Tuesday as well as Bill VK4ZD, Phil VK2MCB and a scratchy contact with John ZL2JPM. It was unusual to get a strong signal from Phil but during our net there was sporadic E activity on 50 MHz. Many thanks John for your excellent weekly reports and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all ROAR members and their families.

From Klaus HB9CQS
Both the VKs and the Europeans were greatly hampered by one or more energetic S9-woodpeckers. It almost spoiled the net. The readability reports below are with the woodpecker[s] silent for a moment.
07:33z - Bill, VK4ZD, 54-55, increasing to 56 before the net was closed. Got 56.
07:34z - Peter, VK3KCD, 52. Got 54
07:36z - Phil, VK2MCB, 54 increasing slightly. Got 57
07:39z - Pertti, EA7GSU, omnidirectional 57-58 b/w. Poor copy when Pertti was beaming VK.
08:10z - Net closed
No activity from ZL. Malcolm, PA3AHC, had contact with Pertti but was not heard here.

From Doug ZL1BFS
Thanks to all of you for the contacts over the past year. Signals have not often been good, and Cycle 24 has yet to reach its minimum - but we can hope for better things in the future.
I spent the last couple of days taking down, and then re-erecting 6 metres away, my 43 foot monopole. There are certain problems lifting a flimsy 13m aluminium pole through a tree canopy - but it is up now, even though I haven’t run a feedline to its new location. I have found it to be a very useful aerial. Although its receive signal strength is one or two S points below the 20m collinear, or the 80m Inverted V - its noise level is about 4 S points lower, so I can often get Q5 copy from it when the real aerials only produce Q4 or even Q3.
My main tilt-over mast is up with all its Building Permit requirements, but I need some time to resurrect my Mosley Beam, then I can take the ugly 20m co-linear down - after a few comparative on-air tests of course.

From John G3OKT – Sorry I missed this net on account of Christmas preparations, thanks for being there everyone and for all the good wishes. I look forward to the extended 20m net on Tuesday 27th December.

That’s all for now,
Happy Christmas and here’s to a Great New Year!
