Roar Nets September 6th - September 8th 2015

ROAR Nets Report for 6th and 8th September 2015

0600z-0630z ANZO Net on 7110
From Bill VK4ZD
Reg VK7KK called in with an excellent signal 57-8 (maybe the best I have heard him) and he gave me 59
Phil VK2MCB was 58-9 and gave me 59+. He advised that he was going to be at a RAWCS project in Tonga from Sept 22nd to Oct 6th. He does not expect to have any time for radio whilst on the island.
Pertti EA7GSU called on CW and was 559 but could not hear me through European QRM

0630z - 0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From the QRZ website : SRI 85, A 13 , K 3, sunspots 24 (low and falling).
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 57 and gave me 58
Reg VK7KK was 59 and gave me 59+ but left shortly after
Alain F4GHB and I exchanged 57 reports
Nick G4HCK was 55-6 and gave me 53
Klaus HB9CQS was 58-9 and gave me 59
John ZL2JPM was 56 and gave me 55
Pertti EA7GSU climbed from 55-6 to 58 and gave me 55 climbing to 58-9
Albert ON2WAC (visitor) was 44 here
John G3OKT was 33 initially, climbing to 44-55 in QSB
Rob ZL1RD was 57 here running only 100w from an Icom ic-746
Malcolm PA3AHC got through at the end of the sched and was 33-44 and gave me 32

From John G3OKT
Conditions poor. Not expecting much in respect of solar predictions, and QRM was often severe from contest stations. (I and OE stns 2 kHz up at S9, and a contest pile up at S9+ 2kHz down).
G4HCK was just heard calling at 0630 at 1.1
HB9CQS just detectable by his tone of voice!
EA7GSU and G3OKT were just able to announce their presence on CW at 0639 (by 0645, Pertti was 5.7 here)
VK4ZD was “wavy” here at 0647, 1.2 at best. Bill and Pertti initially exchanged 5.5 b/w. Pertti relayed that Bill heard me G3OKT at 3.3. At 0710 Bill came up to 2.3 here but then went down again.
VK2MCB was referred to by Bill at 0647, but Phil was not heard well here at all, though I think he heard me.
EA7GSU later gave VK4ZD 5.8/9, HB9CQS 5.5/7, VK2MCB 5.5, G4HK 4.1, no copy of ZL2JPM. Bill by now was copying Pertti at 5.9.
HB9CQS suddenly came up to 5.6 here at 0707, then 5.8 at 0710 giving Bill 5.9, and then 5.9 here by 0715. Pertti had now fallen again here to 5.5 with QSB down.
At 0719 Bill had good reception of G3OKT at 4.4 – 5.5. He was still “wavy” at S3.
The net ended at 0725, S meter pretty dead, no signals heard except Klaus at 5.9! Pertti was 5.7 on the spider quad, not touching the S meter on the doublet.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT who was net control.
Apologies from G3LUW and G7OAI. High (broadband?) noise peaking around 3.694, also some contest activity. Otherwise an excellent net, good copy between all five stations.
G3JJR John was 5.9+10dB, with occasional QSB to S8. Also only 5.7/8 with Tommy
G3SZF Bob was a clear 5.9, gave me 5.9+15dB
G2FUU Tommy was 5.9+10dB; gave me 5.9+20
G0SQH Derek was most welcome and 5.9 here, was getting lots of exercise!! Trouble for G3SZF to copy Derek under conditions of QSB.
The net closed at 0843.

1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 8th September 2015 NZ 80-m net on 3,693

0630z – 0700z Tuesday 8th September 2015 EUR net on 14,295.2
From the QRZ website : SRI 84 A 46 (red) K 6 and sunspots 47 (climbing)
From Bill VK4ZD
The only European station I heard was Pertti EA7GSU and at the best he was 33-44. He heard me 53 at best.
I was also called by Albert V63YAH who was 56-8 here and gave me 59+
Colin VK3NCC mobile VK8 also called me at the end of the net. He was 56-8 and gave me 59+. By 0704 he had dropped to 44

From Malcolm PA3AHC
Tuesday was indeed a zilch . All I got from G3OKT was just a few last words about “A46“ and then just noise. Can it get worse, I wonder ?

From John G3OKT
Not much expected in view of the solar flux figures. Correspondingly, the band was completely dead apart from one Russian stn at 5.5 on 14.1697, there were no signals anywhere on the 20m band except one teleprinter at S6 with QSB on 14.2913 . It was as if someone had disconnected my antenna !!
PA3AHC was a just recognizable voice at 0631, but I had no copy.
G3LUW heard me on SSB but couldn’t copy. He was wafting in and out at 4.1. We had a brief CW contact at 1.1.9 at 0644.
I listened until 0650 and then closed down at 0700z.

From Brian G3LUW
It was almost impossible this morning with the A index so high. I think I heard Malcolm, and you were audible on CW with heavy QSB.
It is 0850 and I can just hear your voice, but with almost no copy.

That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
