Roar Nets September 13th - September 15th 2015

ROAR Nets Report for 13th and 15th September 2015

0600z-0630z ANZO Net on 7110
From Bill VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was 57-8 and gave me 59.
Doug ZL1BFS was 57-8 peaking 59 and gave me 56

0630z - 0730z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From the QRZ website : SRI 99, A 16 (was 59 at 0300z!) , K 1, sunspots 87
From Bill VK4ZD
John G3OKT was 56 and gave 55
Coco YO9BC was 56 and gave me 43-55 in QSB
Nick G4HCK was 44 and gave me 55
Doug ZL1BFS was 56
Phil VK2MCB was 44 and gave me 53
Rob ZL1RD was 58 and made contact with Klaus HB9CQS
Klaus HB9CQS was 57-8 and gave me 57-8 also. He was preparing to pick up
his new antenna later in the week and hoped to have it in the air 2 weekends hence.
Miika OH2BAD was 57 until signals dropped rapidly and he gave me 56
Pertti EA7GSU was 56 and gave me 57 until the premature end of propagation
Malcolm PA3AHC was 11 until we closed the net at 0705z due to the failure of the propagation.
However I heard Pertti talking with Malcolm after the net and Malcolm lifted briefly to 44

From John G3OKT
YO9BC called first at 0624 but had to leave at 0637. Coco was an excellent 5.9+10dB here (perhaps over-modulating?), heard VK4ZD at 4.3 to 5.5 with fast QSB and got 5.6 from Bill, later pkg 5.7. I was not strong with Coco, 5.6 at first, QSB to S8.
VK2MCB heard G3OKT, VK4ZD, G4HCK, ZL1BFS and OH2BAD but was only 4.2 here, hardly touching the S meter. Phil got 4.4 from VK4ZD, and came up to 5.5 here at the end of the net. Phil gave Miika 5.4 to 5.5
G4HCK was just a trace here, not copied. Bill gave Nick 4.4 in exchange for 5.5
VK4ZD gave ZL1BFS 5.6; no copy of Doug here.
HB9CQS unusual in not touching my S meter at all but Q3? Klaus gave Bill 5.7 in exchange for 5.7/8.
OH2BAD also unusually weak pkg 5.5 with QSB. Miika gave Klaus 5.6, had no copy of ZLs, gave Nick 5.4; suffering contest QRM.
ZL1RD just heard here but no copy of Rob.
Pertti the best, solid signal at 5.7; gave Bill 5.7 and got 5.6;
PA3AHC just heard “fluttering” and difficult to copy. Malcolm just heard Bill, Miika and Klaus.
VK4ZD started going down into the noise about 0645; contest QRM also increased. Klaus said Bill down to 5.3 at 0657 and was hearing G3OKT only at 3.2. Pertti also said Bill down to 4.2 but he and Klaus exchanged 5.9 b/w; gave me 5.8 and Nick 5.7 b/w; gave ZL1RD 4.1; had a good mutual path at 0710 with PA3AHC at 5.7; had no copy of ZL1BFS.
HB9CQS swept up to 5.7 here at 0703 and Pertti said I was 5.9 as the net closed at 0705.
In summary, conditions not good, as befits high A figure; no ZLs and poor copy VKs (though “woodpecker” appeared once at S9+20dB!)
Bill closed the net at 0705.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G7OAI/P who was net control
I tuned to 3.693 and heard OKT calling on .694, and responded, at 0755-ish. I opened the net officially at 0800Z, with Tommy G2FUU the first to call in, followed by Bob, G3SZF. G3JJR appeared at 0821Z, having had a reluctant radio.
No one else joined us. G3LUW was recovering from a hectic night out, and had sent anticipatory apologies!
Everyone was a good signal to me, with no significant QSB, but others did experience some, along with our now usual QRM.
(This website might be of interest? http://www.ukqrm.org.uk/ )
G3OKT - 5x9+20, peaking +40
G2FUU - 5x7 to 8.
G3SZF - 5x9
G3JJR - 5x8 to 9
Bob left the group at 0826, and the rest of us continued until 0836, when the net officially closed.
G3OKT should in Control next week.

From John G3OKT
John OAI was 5.9+5dB here and said that everyone was 5.9 most of the time.
Apologies given by Brian G3LUW this week. John G3OKT net control next week.
Noise S8 as usual, signals generally lower and with QSB.
John G3JJR did come up to 5.9+20dB but readability was challenged at times on G2FUU and G3SZF.
The net closed at 0825.

1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693
From John G3OKT : It was agreed this morning that there would be no RIBI station listening to this net today.

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 15th September 2015 NZ 80-m net on 3,693

0630z – 0700z Tuesday 15th September 2015 EUR net on 14,295.2
(from the QRZ site SRI 97 A 14 K 4 sunspots 52 )
From Bill VK4ZD
With a red face I must say that I was there and heard nobody.
At 0700z I noticed that I had been on LSB instead of USB somehow. Duh!

From Malcolm PA3AHC
You sure didn’t miss much ! I only heard FICFA deep down in the noise, and made no QSO’s.

From Klaus HB9CQS
Tuesday mornings I am on two nets simultaneously. On 14295.2 I worked Pertti, EA7GSU, briefly. He was about 32. Called the VKs a few times, but no reply. On 14336 I worked Len, VK2BLZ, for half an hour. Len was never below 55 and touched the 9-mark a few times. QTH: Half way between Sydney and Brisbane.

From Pertti EA7GSU
At 0630 I just about recognized the voice of Jean Pierre and called him. Klaus was on qrg as well but only 55. Half way through the meeting he qsy'd to Danish net and we were left watching the ROAR net. With time J - P got stronger and louder and at the end of meeting he was a clear 59 plus. We kept calling CQ, we were calling Malcolm and Bill and just anybody, but we were in the bottle - nothing heard, We finished at 10 min to 0700 but I kept the rx open. Nothing heard and I closed at 0705hrs.
next time better Pertti.

From Jean-Pierre F1CFA
It was a hard job to make QSO this Tuesday. I heard Pertti in the noise, as for Klaus
( despite the bad propagation he is always the same : 51/52 !!! but as usual, he can't copy my voice ! )
Malcolm was there, but in the back ground ( just recognised ! )
With Pertti, at the end of the meeting, we exchanged 59 both way !!
I can say that I suspected the voice of Bill VK4ZD in the noise.
Very poor net meeting, but we were there hanging the flag !!

That’s all for now,
73s from John G3OKT
