From John G3OKT
SRI 119 A 12 K 6 sunspots 44. (Back on repaired 80m doublet here at 40ft.)
Thinking the net should start at 0730z, I called CQ at 0730, 0746, 0802 and 0821 but no response – just faint voices in the noise. Daylight occurred at 0815. At 0738 I faintly heard HB9CQS give VK4ZD 4.3 and get 5.5 but no sign of Bill here,
ZL1BFS gave 5.6 to Klaus and got 4.5 at 0740 but Doug was not heard here.
HB9CQS was suddenly Q5 along with band opening noises at 0810. Klaus heard wishing Bill and family Happy Christmas. Klaus touched S6 at 0816 then fell away again.
EA7GSU was recognized at 0817.
At 0827 “woodpecker” appeared on top of PA3AHC at S9+10dB, Malcolm being only 2.1.
EA7GSU gave PA3AHC 5.8 at 0829. Pertti was a clear 5.8 here.
VK4ZD just heard at 0832; not Q5 until 0833.
At 0834, the band “opened”
VK2MCB Phil got 4.1 from Pertti but only just heard here.
VK4ZD punched up to 5.6, later 5.7 at 0840; Bill heard me at 5.5.
G4HCK was 2.3 here at 0837 and got 5.7 from Bill. Nick gave Bill 5.7/8.
ZL1BFS was 5.5 here and gave G3OKT 4.4 exchanged 3.3 b/w with G4HCK. Nick was now hearing Bill at 5.9.
The net closed at 0843 with Seasons compliments passed all around!
A disappointing net, 30 minutes early for 20m in the UK.

From Nick G4HCK
Listened this morning – could hear a few people very faint however. I did give a couple of calls but no reply. The band for me was awful. Happy Christmas everyone....
From Nick (a little later!) OK who found the switch. The band has just opened to VK so I have to retract my previous comments. Looks like the cleaner must have put the lights on at 08.30.

From Peter VK3KCD
Greetings to all not on net this week or next so a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year from a sultry Singapore YIR and 73

From Jim G3NKS
I missed it due to it being the XYL’s birthday (48) so I was on early kitchen jankers!!
Merry Christmas all at ROAR and don’t forget for the “lowfers” amongst us it’s the Christmas Eve transmission in the morning around 0730-0830 on 17.2khz from SAQ at Grimeton in Sweden.

From Jean Pierre F1CFA
Even if the Net meeting ROAR was not a great net, it remains the world wide net !! This morning, the New Zeeland and Australia stations were speaking...with low signals ! The station F1CFA was in a corner but always listening. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends and perhaps a possible contact on Tuesday for the European stations.
Special Thanks to Bill VK4ZD who is always trying to manage the difficult net meeting. Special thoughts to Pertti and also Malcolm
( PA3AHC ) who is, as me, in a corner !! John and Brian, hope to hear you soon...

1200z – 1300z TransAtlantic Net on 14,287/8
Pertti had previously e-mailed I will be on the air on Sunday (tomorrow) starting at 1200utc on qrg:14288kHz calling ROAR members. If propagations are bad and nobody respond, I will be an hour later there again and so on till 1500utc
Bill VK4ZD had added Note that there will be qrm from the net on 14.290
As planned I was there at 1200hrs listening noise for about 10min.
When opening the rx again at 1300hrs, I heard Ken, W8SOO calling with 53 signal. I was heard as well and we continued qso and Klaus, HB9CQS and Malcolm, PA3AHC came to the qrg as well. Neither of them had copy of Ken and soon Ken sank in the noise. We agreed to meet again at 1400hrs and Klaus was able to do so. But Ken was even weaker than earlier and a new postponement was agreed.
At 1500hrs I was 10 minutes late but then Ken, Malcolm and Klaus were already in communication already. Ken was 55 with me and I got 57 back. Klaus and Malcolm were in contact as well.
The peak of propagation thus appears to be latish afternoon and we agreed to make it next Sunday at 1500hrs utc.
Sunday prop’s to ANZO were bad, maybe it had an influence to Atlantic as well!?

From Phil N9KWO
Tried 14.288 at 1200, 1300, and 1500 UTC but the 20-meter band was pretty dead. Only heard one other station at 1200 on the entire band. Also tried 14.293 at 1230 UTC, but heard no one. Made calls but got no replies.
Tried 14.287 and 14.288 at 2000 UTC, also called AF1E and W8S00 but no responses. Gary N9GA who lives less than 1 km from me answered me on 14.288 and we chatted until 2023 with periodic invitations to fellow Rotarians to join us, but no one did

From Malcolm PA3AHC
Heard nothing at 1200z , not even qrm. However , Pertti , Klaus and I did get through to Ken/W8SOO in North Michigan at 1500z on 288 , with me at up to 5/5. We’ll all be there again next week , same time , same station(?) .
Cheers & 73’s & Season’s Greetings from a very green Naarden > 10c ,

From Joe AF1E
I though I heard a faint voice way down in the noise but for me it was impossible to pick out.
