ROAR Nets Report for 2nd August and 4th August 2015

Phil VK2MCB was 59+5 and gave me 59+
Peter VK3KCD and I exchanged 59 reports - great to have Peter back on the net.

0600z - 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path

Peter VK3KCD and I exchanged 59 reports and signals later dropped but he was always Q5
Phil VK2MCB was 55 and gave me 57
Brian G3LUW and I exchanged 44 reports
Malcolm PA3AHC was not heard here
Pertti EA7GSU (welcome back) was 56 and gave me 57
Klaus HB9CQS was 57-8 and gave me 56-7
Nick G4HCK was 44 here and gave me 52
John G3OKT was 22 here
Brian VK2BX was 58-9 here
Alain F4GHB was 56-7 and gave me 57
The 2 VK2's were still being heard much better in Europe
The net was closed at 0656z with Phil taking over towards the end as signals dropped for me.

From QRZ : SFI 103 A 10 K 4 sunspots 70 (steady)
G3LUW Brian was heard here first, “fluttering” around 5.5. Brian gave VK2MCB 5.5, and received 4.4 from VK4ZD.
VK2MCB was 5.2 here against a very low noise level on the spider quad. Phil gave both VK4ZD and EA7GSU 5.7; gave HB9CQS 5.9; gave 5.3-4 for Brian; and gave 4.1 for G3OKT which later increased to 2.3.
EA7GSU gave VK4ZD 5.7 and got 5.6; Pertti was a loud 5.7 here, and gave G4HCK 5.8 and F4GHB 5.9.
HB9CQS and G3OKT exchanged 5.9+10dB b/w; Klaus also gave G4HCK 5.9+10dB, gave G3LUW 5.9, gave Pertti 5.4-5, gave Peter VK3KCD 5.4-5, gave Malcolm PA3AHC 2.2 and gave VK2BX 5.6-7
G4HCK was just readable here at 1.1. Nick gave VK2MCB 5.7-8 and F4GHB 5.9.
VK2BX was the clearest VK here at 5.1 but was not touching the S meter; Brian copied VK4ZD at 5.8 and HB9CQS at 5.9. Brian was able to copy G3OKT via a remote SDR in Spain
VK3KCD gave Klaus 5.7; gave Nick 5.3 and got 5.4; Peter was initially 4.1 here and not touching the S meter, but later 5.2 and gave me 5.3 and gave G3LUW 5.6-7. Peter gave Pertti 3.2 and got 5.1-3; gave Alain 5.4 and got 5.5.
PA3AHC was a recognizable voice here but no copy.
F4GHB was 5.9 here. Alain and Phil exchanged 5.7 b/w.
At 0620, Pertti was 5.8 here, and gave G3LUW 5.9, VK4ZD 5.7, VK2MCB 5.7, G3OKT 5.9, VK3KCD 5.1-3, HB9CQS 5.1-5, G4HCK 5.2/6, and VK2BX 5.5.
At 0644, HB9CQS gave VK2MCB 5.6/7 and F4GHB 5.3.
At 0650, Alain gave VK4ZD 5.7, VK3KCD 5.5, VK2MCB 5.7, G3LUW 5.5, G3OKT 5.9, EA7GSU 5.3, PA3AHC 3.3, HB9CQS 5.5, G4HCK 5.2 and VK2BX 5.8.
As the net ended at 0655, PA3AHC fluttered up to 5.3 here, and got 4.3 from VK3KCD.
 
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694

Brian G3LUW was net controller and was a strong 5.9+10dB here, as was John G3JJR.
G2FUU was 5.9 here and was 5.9 with G3LUW.
G7OAI John was at home today, and suffered QSB here between 5.7 and 5.9. John said Brian was only just above the noise, and got 5.6 from G3LUW.
G7OAI and G3SZF – John and Bob had difficulties both ways. Bob was 5.9 here.
G3OKT reported on the funeral of Elizabeth, widow of Tony G4FRA, at Bicester on July 31st. G3OKT and G3JJR had represented ROAR in RIBI.
The net closed at 0840z.
G3OKT will be net controller next week.
 
1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,693
Tommy G2FUU had said that he would listen at 1800z for any ROAR stations.
 
2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287

Brian G3LUW and I exchanged 56 reports
Klaus HB9CQS was 58-9 and gave me 59
John G3OKT was 33-44 here
Pertti EA7GSU was 57 and gave me 57-8
Phil VK2MCB was 56 here and gave me 57
Malcolm PA3AHC was only 11-22 here
The propagation was slightly improved on Sunday.

SFI 106 A 6 K 2 sunspots 62 - “half decent” in the words of VK4ZD!
Better signals from VK this week, though propagation very selective.
VK4ZD was 4.2 here and gave me 4.4 to 3.3; Bill heard G3LUW at 5.6.
G3LUW was only 2.1 here, but 5.9 with HB9CQS; gave me 4.4 and VK2MCB 5.7.
HB9CQS was 5.6 with Brian and 5.7 here until 0614 when Klaus shot up to 5.9+10dB. However, Klaus was still getting G3OKT at 5.5 and Pertti at 5.4.
EA7GSU gave VK4ZD 5.8 and got 4.7; Pertti gave HB9CQS 5.1-7;
Pertti was only 5.3 here initially and had no copy of G3LUW, but came up here to 5.7 at 0635 when he also gave Brian 5.9. Pertti heard me at 5.8 and VK2MCB at 5.6.
VK2MCB and G3OKT exchanged 5.5 b/w; Phil gave both Pertti and Bill 5.7; Bill gave Phil 5.6.
PA3AHC was just a trace here at first and came up to 2.1; Malcolm and Phil exchanged 4/5.3; Bill gave Malcolm 1.1; Pertti heard Malcolm at 4.1.
VK2MCB gave all of EA7GSU, HB9CQS, VK4ZD and G3LUW 5.7. Phil also gave G3OKT 5.5 and got 5.0, actually coming up to 5.3 as the net ended.
G3LUW came up to 5.3 here, giving Klaus 5.9+ and VK2MCB 5.7.
At 0630, Klaus said there were six S-points difference between my spider (5.3/2) and doublet (5.9+10dB) antennae; Klaus also returned 5.7 for Phil VK2MCB.
Pertti is going to Finland and will miss next Sunday and Tuesday nets. He gave a final report of 5.9 for G3LUW. Malcolm was now getting VK2MCB at 5.4.

VK2MCB is consistently the best quality signal at this QTH from VK-land in recent weeks . Good going Phil !
