ROAR Nets Report 11th May 2014

QRZ SFI 152 A 9 K 2 Sunspots 125 (rising slowly)

0615z-0700z ANZO Net on 7118
From Bill VK4ZD
I was a little late for this net but although I called many times there were no takers.

0700z - 0800z Europe - ANZO Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Pertti EA7GSU was 59 and gave me 58-9
Brian G3LUW was 55 and gave me 58-9
Vitor CT1BJZ was 59+10 and gave me 58 - briefly on frequency before driving to sons home 300km away
Klaus HB9CQS and I exchanged 59+5 reports
Miika OH2BAD was 57 and gave me 59 - excellent considering the expected poor path between us
John ZL2JPM was 55-9 in slow qsb
Malcolm PA3AHC was 43 here
Vern KL3IB (visitor) was 54-5 and gave me 59+10 at 0722z
Nick G4HCK was 56 and gave me 58-9
Kelvin 2E1ADT (visitor) from Cornwell was 53 and gave me 57
I went QRT at 0801z

From Doug ZL1BFS
I regret I will be absent from the net this Sunday (11th May) as my No 1 rig receiver front end failed during last week's net, and my No 2 rig is set up at the Radio Clubrooms for a contest I am involved in.

I should be OK next week 18th May and 25th May on my No 2 rig, but will miss the next week, unless we will be operating from the IR Sydney Conference. I guess that will be about 5:00pm local time. I must ask Bill about that.

From Klaus HB9CQS
Dear friends, I will be visiting Prague during the coming weekend and will not be able to join you on the ANZO net on May 18th
From Malcolm PA3AHC I was losing Bill just like the week before.
and to top it all, I'll be in St.Petersburg next Sunday, so have fun, chaps.

From John G3OKT
Sorry couldn’t make this net. I also apologise for the absence of most RIBI members of ROAR next weekend as we will be away in a hotel in Chester (without a rig) for the 2014 AGM. Tommy G2FUU is staying home and may be on the 80m net at 0800z.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G7OAI
I opened the net at 0758Z, and was joined by Tommy & Brian. John JJR soon came up too. We were joined by G3RZP, Peter, a Probus member from Swindon, son of G8ON, one of the founder members of ROAR. Bruce appeared next. However after about 15 minutes, conditions became challenging, with my noise level up at the reservoir up to S8, perhaps owing to the torrential rain shower and electricity pylons about a quarter of a mile away. By 0830Z I had to hand over control to Brian, as I was struggling to hear everyone. We called it a day at 0835z.
G2FUU - Tommy - 5x8 initially, then 2x8 by the end.
G3LUW - Brian - 5x8 initially, then 4x8.
G3JJR - John - 5x9 initially, then 4x8.
G3RZP - Peter - 5x9 initially, then 4x8.
G0PCF - Bruce - 4x6 initially, then nothing.
All signals suffered deep QSB after 0815Z, making things very difficult for me with the unusually high noise level where it is normally only about S2 or 3.
Looking forward to meeting up next w/e, with the WX looking much better than the last few days!

From Malcolm PA3AHC
UK net, continuous heavy QRN killed it for me.

1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,292
From Bill VK4ZD
I heard Mike N4PF briefly fluttering down into the noise. No contact was made.

From Pertti EA7GSU
The Atlantic net was anemic as it has been for a long time. Now also
the propagations are worsening. Mike, N4PF was the only to be on the
frequency but he had difficulties in copying me. I tried with CW but
no better result.
Mike suggested we would try it earlier but I think the lack of
participants is the biggest disappointment. I will leave it for some
time and we will see if the propagations will improve, the people find
us and the net gets going again.
Another opportunity could be later in the afternoon. The East Cost
W's are well audible at 2000utc Continental net.

From Pertti to Mike N4PF by e-mail on May 11th
It seems to get worse every time. I need to have a better antenna to
be heard, hi! I suggest we keep a break until further notice. I will be going to
Sydney anyhow and after that have a summer journey here on the Iberian
peninsula. So, thanks for being always there and let us take it up again when
there are better propagations. 73 n cu on another qrg.

From Malcolm PA3AHC
International net, I couldn't hear Pertti at 1200z, or anyone else.

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Pertti EA7GSU
Poor audibility and I just about recognized the voices of Joe, W0TBC
and Bob, WB7RQG with 22 signal for both. I suppose Joe had some copy
of me!?.
A visitor, Terry, W6LMJ with 57 signal from Florida relayed my
transmission to the boys. Terry was running with an inverted Vee
dipole and gave me 53.

From Bob WB7RQG
We had a good net with Joe, W0TBC acting as net control. The following joined the net:- Terry, W6LMJ Pertti, EA7GSU Ernie, WB2UJL and Perry, KB5EAG mobile. Pertti used CW and gave me a 1/1 I could not hear him.

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 13th May 2014 NZ 80-m net on 3693

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 13th May 2014 EUR net on 14,295.2
From QRZ : SRI 163 (steady) A 8 K 2 Sunspots 164 increasing
From Bill VK4ZD
John G3OKT was 58 and gave me 59+10
Pertti EA7GSU and I exchanged 57-8 reports when he turned his beam to me
Malcolm PA3AHC was 21 and I thought he gave me 56

From John G3OKT
Pertti EA7GSU called at 0700z – a good 5.9 peaking S9+10dB here. Later when he beamed to face Malcolm he came up to 5.9+15dB
G3OKT responded – Pertti gave me 5.8/9
Bill VK4ZD appeared at 5.9+10dB – a fine signal on a clear frequency - “armchair quality”!
Bill gave me 5.8 and exchanged 5.7 b/w with Pertti.
Malcolm PA3AHC was on frequency and heard at 5.4 by Pertti and 2.1 by Bill. Skip was wrong for me – I heard nothing of Malcolm. He was heard to give Bill 5.6.
We discussed arrangements for the RI Convention in Sydney and finally closed the net at 0735.

From Malcolm PA3AHC
Tuesday net on 20m was also poor here.

That’s all for now,
73’s
John G3OKT
