0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,693
From John G7OAI/P who was net control
At last a Good Day to be up at the reservoir! And a new home-brew 80m dipole on test. Condition were comfortable, with a light SW wind and 7 deg. C. Antenna went up easily, and I heard Mike, LES, calling just before 0900. I increased my power to around 90w, as he had high noise levels (Sounds familiar!) After a bit of confusion, with a bit of 'doubling' the net was established.
G8LES - 5x9+10
G2FUU - 5x9+10
G3OKT - 5x9+40
PA3AHC - 4x5
G3JJR - 5x9+10
Welcome back to OKT from the antipodes, and good to be able to hear Malcolm, who was struggling with most of us, but had a good report from Tommy, 5x7. Malcolm signed at 0917.
Our thoughts are with Mike, G4WRU, & Sandra. Mike is very ill, and at his request back at home.
The net was closed at 0955.
Finally, a reminder for those attending the RIBI AGM that they need to book before the end of March. The cut off date for the special rate is Friday the 4th of April. Please e-mail me if you need the details again.

From John G3OKT
G7OAI/P John was 5.9+20dB here.
Mike G8LES said G7OAI was only just above his noise level at 5.5/6; was 5.9+25dB here and gave me 5.9 and G2FUU 5.7/9
Tommy G2FUU was 5.9+20dB here as was G3JJR. John was 5.6 with G8LES.
PA3AHC Malcolm was 5.7 here peaking above S8 noise, just above QRM with G7OAI/P and gave me 5.5. John said he would e-mail an invitation to our RIBI AGM to PA3AHC. Malcolm will be most welcome.
Nick G4HCK is considering joining ROAR/RIBI. He has 20m capability but can only listen on 80m. Welcome Nick!
G3OKT will not be on net next week - John G7OAI (or G3LUW) will be net control. G2FUU will be control on March 23, and G3OKT on March 30.
Brian G3LUW later e-mailed that he had arrived home from a weekend in Surrey to hear that sadly Mike G4WRU had died on March 7th. Until recently Mike was one of our regular 80m net controllers. Mike also operated the amateur radio station on HMS Belfast, anchored in the Thames under Tower Bridge, almost every Monday. The Union Flag on the cruiser is now flying at half-mast in memory of ‘Monday-Mike’

Pertti EA7GSU had said on 20m on Sunday that he would not be on this net.

Brian could hear F1CFA well but Brian and G3OKT were barely copiable.
F1CFA Jean Pierre was 5.9 here and gave me 5.7; could hear EA/G4HMG at 5.9+10dB and Malcolm PA3AHC at 5.3 initially but later lost copy.

That’s all for now,
