ROAR Nets Report for 29th June and
1st July 2014 0515z-0600z ANZO Net on 7118 From Bill VK4ZD Peter VK3KCD was 57-9 - Peter confirmed that this was his last sched as ANZO VP. Phil VK2MCB has agreed to take the position as of the 1st of July. My sincere and heartfelt thanks go to Peter for a job exceptionally well done. ROAR-ANZO is in hugely better shape now than when he took on the job and it is all down to his focus and unstinting effort. Thanks Peter. Diane VK4DI initially came back to Peter in my absence Phil VK2MCB was 57-9 and gave me 59 Bryce VK2FADS was 59 Doug ZL1BFS was 55-7 and gave me 58 Peter VK3FPSR was 57 and gave me 59+10 From Peter VK3KCD Quite good conditions on 40mx with Diane VK4DI being first to check in followed by Bill VK4ZD, Phil VK2MCB, Doug ZL1BFS, Bryce VK2FADS, Peter VK3FPSR and myself. As of June 30 I have retired as ANZO VP and Phil VK2MCB will take over and I'm sure we all wish him well. I shall be absent from the nets next week. Pertti EA7GSU reported later on 20m that he heard VK4ZD at 4.4-5 through QRM from a Spanish contest. 0600z - 0700z Europe - ANZO Net on 14,295.2 Long Path QRZ figures : SFI 115 A 6 K 3 Sunspots 89 From Bill VK4ZD Peter VK3KCD was 55 Doug ZL1BFS was 55-7 John ZL2JPM was 53 and gave me 52-3 Pertti EA7GSU was 56 and gave me 58 John G3OKT was only 21 to me Malcolm PA3AHC was not copiable here Phil VK2MCB was 41 and gave me 44 Nick G4HCK was 21 to me Klaus HB9CQS was 55 and gave me 57 Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 32 here Brian G3LUW was 42 and gave me 34 I think John EA/G4HMG was initially 42 later peaking at 53 and gave me 57 Les PA0SDZ was not copiable here Vitor CT1BJZ and I exchanged 55 reports I went QRT at 0655z From John G3OKT Skip seriously wrong for VK/ZL; good medium distance Eur; many strong K and W stations involved in the Field Day. I called CQ on top of EA7GSU and VK4ZD at 0600 ! VK4ZD Bill was just heard under QRM at 2.0 and never improved. EA7GSU and G3OKT exchanged 5.9. PA3AHC had no copy of VK4ZD but got 5.9 from Pertti; Malcolm was hardly hearable here. G4HCK Nick was 3.4 here, 4.4 with HB9CQS and gave Pertti 4.1. Nick went QRT at 0618 because of poor propagation. VK2MCB was 2.2 with Pertti; I recognized Phil’s voice but he made no impression on my S meter HB9CQS was 5.9+15dB here, swapped 5.9 with Pertti, gave me 5.9, Nick 4.4 and Bill 5.7. Klaus relayed 73s from OH2BAD whom he had met at Friedrichtshaven. VK3KCD was heard by Klaus at 5.5 but Peter was at best 1.0 here and 3.2 with Pertti. F4GHB and F1CFA were called by Pertti but did not reply. Jean Pierre had been heard at 5.9 by Pertti G3LUW was 4.5 with me, gave VK4ZD 4.4, gave 5.9 for HB9CQS and got 5.9+ from EA7GSU. Pertti had heard ZL2JPM at 3.2 and had been heard by ZL1BFS. EA/G4HMG was 5.9 here; gave PA3AHC 5.9 and G3LUW 5.9+, and 4.3 for Pertti, who gave Malcolm 3.1 I believe VK4ZD gave Malcolm 4.2 ; John EA/G4HMG gave VK4ZD 5.7 CT1BJZ was 5.9 with Pertti; Vitor gave Pertti 5.8, VK4ZD 5.5 b/w, G3LUW and G3OKT 5.9; and was 5.9+15dB with HB9CQS. Later both Vitor and Klaus rose to 5.9+20dB with G3OKT At 0645 Klaus reported that VK4ZD dropped to 5.5 but still had good copy PA0SDZ was 5.9 with Pertti but barely 1.0 here. Les gave 5.9 for CT1BJZ and EA/G4HMG VK4ZD closed the net at 0650z but G3LUW stayed on to get 5.9 from Les, and hear Diana EA/G4MVV describing social events in Spain that Elizabeth was there to enjoy with her and John. At 0715, IK5IFH came up on 14.297 with a thunderous 5.9+40dB so I went QRT! From Pertti EA7GSU I cannot remember if you stayed until the end of ANZO net, but I continued until 0740utc and logged Vitor CT1BJZ with 59, John and Diana EA/G4HMG//G4MVV with 31 but later 59/59 until they faded away. Also Alain, F4GHB visited with 59 signal. My only report from Down Under came from Bill, VK4ZD. Total number of participants in my log is 17 members (one visitor). 0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694 G3LUW Brian was net control. He was 5.9+20dB here, as was G2FUU Tommy, G7OAI/P John and G3JJR John. G0PCF Bruce suffered heavy QSB from 5.9+20dB to 5.3 from G3LUW, 5.9 to 4.5 from G3OKT and 5.5 from G7OAI. Bruce was receiving G3LUW and G7OAI with QSB between 5.9 and 3.2. Tommy gave G3LUW 5.8/9, gave 5.8 for G7OAI, gave 5.7 for G3JJR – all readable with non-intrusive noise but sharp fades. In summary, the conditions very variable with serious QSB down into the noise for some. Bruce thought the conditions were his worst in 23 years of ROAR! G7OAI will not be available on the next 2 weekends. Brian closed the net at 0847. 1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,692 2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287 From Bob WB7RQG Field Day had left the frequency so propagation gave us some trouble. Joe, AF1E was net control with the following joining the net; Ed, N4EDT Jack, KF5BD Joe, W0TBC Pertti, EA7GSU and me WB7RQG. I copied everyone except Pertti. From Pertti EA7GSU I opened my RX at 2016z to hear an Italian mobile on 14287kHz. I detected Joe, AF1E below and during the "Italian breaks" was able to exchange reports with Joe, 57 both ways in spite of QRM. I understood that WB7RQG and W0TBC were on qrg as well but had no copy. Joe closed the net at 2025utc. 0700z – 0730z Tuesday 1st July 2014 NZ 80-m net on 3693 0700z – 0730z Tuesday 1st July 2014 EUR net on 14,295.2 From QRZ : SFI 141 A 6 K 1 Sunspot 124 (rising) – conditions unstable (QSB) but propagation better than recently From Bill VK4ZD I spoke with Jean-Pierre F1CFA at about 0640z. He was 31. EA/G4HMG was 41 Brian G3LUW was 41 and gave me 55 (later dropping to 33) John G3OKT was 41 Malcolm PA3AHC was not copiable here Pertti EA7GSU was 53-4 and initially gave me 57 and later 53-5 when signals were dropping. From John G3OKT EA/G4HMG was in QSO with G3LUW at 0700. John had slow QSB from 5.7 down to 4.3/5 at 0720 but came back to 5.7 on his G5RV by 0730, even though the band went pretty dead for me. John HMG gave G3LUW 5.9, G3OKT 5.7, PA3AHC 4.3, VK4ZD 4.3, F1CFA 5.9+20dB and 5.9 for EA7GSU G3LUW and G3OKT exchanged 5.5 b/w, and Brian gave F1CFA 5.9 and VK4ZD 5.5 PA3AHC was 4.3 with EA/G4HMG and barely heard here, only detectable by the tone of his voice VK4ZD gave G3LUW and G3OKT 4.1. Bill peaked about 5.6 with me but faded later. At 0715 Bill said all signals were going down and gave Pertti peaking 5.3/4 in exchange for 5.3/5; Bill could not hear Malcolm F1CFA gave VK4ZD 5.3 and EA/G4HMG 5.9. Jean Pierre was 5.8 with me and gave me 5.8 down to 5.3/2 in QSB EA7GSU was 5.9 here and gave EA/G4HMG 5.9, G3OKT 5.8, G3LUW 5.9, VK4ZD 5.7, PA3AHC 4.3 and F1CFA 5.7. GM4JAE was not heard by G3LUW or G3OKT, but Ian gave EA/G4HMG 5.8. G3JJR was only 5.5 here and less in QSB (even though John is line of sight at Wolverhampton), and gave Pertti his most solid report in exchange for 5.6, and said EA/G4HMG was 50% readable and fading, G3OKT 5.7, no copy of G3LUW and “copyable” for F1CFA who gave John 3.1 F1CFA gave reports both G3LUW and EA/G4HMG 5.9+20dB, PA3AHC 4.1, GM4JAE 3.1 and no copy of Bill. At 0715 Pertti came up to 5.9+10dB with me, said Brian had been 5.9 all the time and gave Malcolm 5.8. The net closed at 0740 From Malcolm PA3AHC I also picked up Pertti again after the Tuesday net and exchanged reports with my different rigs. Didn't make much difference though as we were both fading out ! Conditions were slightly better than on 20m Sunday, when the pipeline stayed closed to PA - land. Things could only improve. From Jean Pierre F1CFA This Tuesday, as a mistake, I called at 7 O'Clock, instead of 7h30. I called and VK4ZD was hearing me... His report was 55 with a good quality. When the net meeting began, his report was rapidly 53 then 51 and he had some difficulties to hear all of us. I propose to Advance the Tuesday net meeting to 7h00. That’s all for now, 73’s John G3OKT |
