Roar Nets July 13th - July 15th 2014
ROAR Nets Report for Sunday 13th and Tuesday 15th July 2014

0515z-0600z ANZO Net on 7118
From Bill VK4ZD
Peter VK3KCD was 5.7 to me
Phil VK2MCB and I exchanged 5.9 reports
Doug ZL1BFS and I also exchanged 5.9 reports
John ZL2JPM 5.3-5 and gave me 3.1-2
Reg VK7KK and I exchanged 5.5 reports

0600z - 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295.2 Long Path
From QRZ: SFI 145 A 6 K 1 Sunspots 145 (falling)

From Bill VK4ZD
John ZL2JPM was 55 and gave me 53
Peter VK3KCD was 57
Phil VK2MCB was initially 1.2 but built up to a healthy 5.7-9 and gave me 5.7
Pertti EA7GSU was 5.7-8 and gave me 5.9
Jean Pierre F1CFA was 5.4 and gave me 5.9
Due to murderous contest QRM we closed the net at 0624z

From John G3OKT
Horrendous QRM from contest stations made 20m virtually unusable here this week – an S9+30dB stn on 14.296 and two at S9+20dB near 14.291 made 14.295 impossible. I just heard Pertti EA7GSU at 0615 at about 1.9+10dB (!), and probably again with VK4ZD at 0624, then gave up at 0625

From Pertti EA7GSU
This contest seemed to be even more fierce than usual, splatters from both sides of the operating freq. The strong QRM kept fellows away and so we didn't have the weight to expel the contesters.
Bill VK4ZD came through and I understood that John ZL2JPM, Peter VK3KCD, and Phil VK2MCB were there. Apart from Bill, who was 5.9, I only heard everybody else about 13. John and Phil quit soon and Phil improved towards the end.
John, G3OKT was 5.5 but very sporadically and I heard also J-P, F1CFA with 58 briefly. QRM made it impossible to have any chat; you merely tried to shoot the report through the QRM curtain when there was a slot.
Bill closed the net 0626utc.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
Tommy G2FUU was first up at 5.9+15dB a little weaker than usual, as was his 5.9 for me.
John G3JJR was 5.9+20dB with me and suffering QSB as reported by Tommy.
Bob G3SZF, a new member of ROAR from the Rotary club of Hertford Shires which meets in Ware, was 5.9+15dB here with some QSB, and 5.9 with Tommy who is at a close QTH. Bob gave 5.9 for G2FUU and G3OKT, and 5.8 for G3JJR in high noise.
Alain F4GHB called in but was difficult to copy (ca 4.8) under steady S9 noise on my 80m doublet but was a clear and noise-free 5.7 as received on my vertical. Neither Tommy nor Bob had any copy of Alain.
G3JJR could hear Alain but not readable; John had QSB on Bob.
Bob has 20m capability as well, using a long wire antenna, and was encouraged to join in any of the nets.
John G7OAI will be net control next week. Neither G3OKT nor G3LUW expect to be available.

1700z – 1730z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Bob WB7RQG
We had a good net. I was net control with the following : Jack, KF5BD Joe, W0TBC Joe, AF1E and Pertti, EA7GSU. I managed to get a couple of words from Pertti but signals not good enough.

From Pertti EA7GSU
Although contest had finished already, the Greece net 2kc lower is a Sunday pest. The only position of the knobs of their rigs are clockwise right resulting in massive splattering.
Joe, AF1E gave me 5.7 and came 2.7 through the holes and I did recognize
Joe, W0TBC and Bob, WB7RQG both with readability 1!
Another net took over at 2027utc.

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 15th July 2014 EUR net on 14,295.2
From QRZ SFI 109 A 9 K 2 Sunspots 70.

From Bill VK4ZD
John EA/G4HMG was 42 and gave me 53
John G3OKT was 53 and gave me 57
Pertti EA7GSU was 55-7 and gave me 57 initially and building to 59
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 54-5 and gave me 57
Malcolm PA3AHC was 53 to me and gave me 53 also
Unfortunately I had no copy on Ian GM4JAE
I went QRT at 0743z

From John G3OKT
A good noise level at “S0” with occasional QRN to S5.
EA7GSU and I exchanged 5.9+10dB b/w; Pertti gave John EA/G4HMG only 2.1 and Bill VK4ZD 5.7/8
EA/G4HMG was 5.8 here with QSB; got Pertti at only 2.2 and gave me 5.3
PA3AHC Malcolm was only just hearable here, on vertical or horizontal polarization; was 5.7 with Pertti and with F1CFA
Jean Pierre F1CFA and I exchanged 5.8 with QSB; gave Pertti 5.8
VK4ZD was a clear 5.7 here with fast QSB; Bill gave EA/G4HMG 4.2, G3OKT 5.3, F1CFA 5.4 and Malcolm 5.3; gave EA/G4HMG 4.2, F1CFA 5.4 and PA3AHC 5.3.
John EA/G4HMG gave Pertti 5.2 (hardly readable), Bill 4.3, Malcolm 5.7 and got 4.2 from VK4ZD
GM4JAE Ian called in and got 5.7 from EA/G4HMG, and gave John 5.4. Pertti was reading Ian OK at 5.5 QSB, but Ian was not heard here
I went QRT at 0725

That’s all for now,
73’s
John G3OKT
