SFI 121 A 6 (dropping) K1 Sunspots 46 (low) Solar flare on 25/4/13 mag x1.3

0615z-0700z ANZO Net on 7118
From Peter VK3KCD
Good conditions on 40mx with Phil VK2MCB, Bill VK4ZD, Noël VK2IWT, Reg VK7KK and myself. I shall be absent from the nets for the next 2 weeks

From John G3OKT
I listened on 7118 at 0636 – many S9+ Latin and Russian stations and a S9+20dB HB9 contest caller, but no sign at all of ANZO ROAR.

From Bill VK4ZD

Peter VK3KCD was 56-7 and gave me 59
Phil VK2MCB was 58-9 and received me 59 on his new 40m dipole which has resolved his noise problems.
Reg VK7KK was 55 and gave me 56
Noel VK2IWT was 59+20 and ready to leave for NA

0700z - 0800z Europe - ANZO Net on 14,295.2 Long Path

Malcolm PA3AHC was 53-5 and gave me 57-8
Doug ZL1BFS was 59+10 and gave me 59
Peter VK3KCD was 57
Brian G3LUW was 56
Peter G8HBS (visitor) was 53
Klaus HB9CQS was 59+10 and gave me 59
Alain F4GHB was 58-9 and gave me 59+
John G4HMG/P was briefly 32 to me and I heard 52 back from him
John ZL2JPM was 56
Les PA0SDZ was 56 and gave me 59
Vitor CT1BJZ was 59+5 and gave me 58
Pertti EA7GSU was 57 and gave me 58
Wally VK6YS also had exchanges with many on the net
Nick G4HCK (visitor) 54 and advised that I was initially 58 and had dropped to 55 ny the time we exchanged reports
Closed the net at 0756z - most signals had dropped noticeably by then.

From John G3OKT
Low noise, ANZO signals down and Europe patchy. It became clear that the best propagation already passed by 0700z. Bill is considering moving the net to an earlier start time.
I heard PA3AHC at 0631 only 2.1 here in low (S1) random noise, but S7 bursts of QRN. Malcolm gave VK4ZD 5.8 and got 5.5/3 QSB from Bill. Bill heard F1CFA at 5.7/8 but Jean Pierre was only 2.2 here.
VK4ZD was 5.9 here and VK3KCD was 5.7. Bill gave me 5.7/8
Bill gave ZL1BFS 5.9+10dB, but Doug was barely detectable here.
Peter VK3KCD gave F1CFA 5.3, G3OKT 5.6, PA3AHC 5.3, ZL1BFS 4.3, G3LUW 5.7, HB9CQS 5.7/8 and G8HBS 4.3.
G3LUW was 4.5 here – Brian had no sign of Europeans. Brian gave VK3KCD 5.7, and introduced John G4HMG/P at a camp site on Black Down. No sign of John and Diana here and only 3.2 with Bill. Brian got 5.6 from VK4ZD.
HB9CQS was a “hollow” 4.7 here with severe QRM from a nearby station at S9+10dB. Klaus gave Brian 4.4 and got 5.9+10dB from VK4ZD.
G8HBS Peter was 5.3 with VK4ZD and was only 2.3 here.
F4GHB Alain was 5.8/9 with Bill but only 3.7 here under QRM from a station who was S9+10 – stronger than he was on his own frequency 2kHz away!
EA7GSU Pertti was 5.9+5dB here and gave VK4ZD 5.8, F1CFA 5.9+, G3OKT 5.9, VK3KCD 5.4, PA3AHC 5.7, ZL1BFS 5.5, G3LUW 5.9+, F4GHB 5.9+, G8HBS 5.7, ZL2JPM 3.1, G4HMG/P 1.1 and PA0SDZ 5.9
John ZL2JPM could just be heard as “a voice in the noise” here, but was 5.6 with Bill.
PA0SDZ Les was 4.6 here, gave VK4ZD 5.9 and G3LUW 5.5. Les was 5.6 with Bill.
CT1BJZ was an excellent 5.9+10dB here and gave Klaus 5.8, G3LUW 5.9, PA3AHC 5.8, ZL2JPM 5.3 and VK4ZD 5.8. Bill gave Vitor 5.9+5dB. Vitor remained at 5.9+10 throughout the net; he apologized for his absence next week due to his national Rotary Convention.
A visitor EA8FP called in but did not return when called.
Peter VK3KCD was still 5.7 here at 0730z, and gave ZL2JPM 5.5, PA0SDZ 5.7 and F4GHB 5.7/8, and Vitor 5.7/8. Peter got 5.8 from Alain and 5.9 from Les.
G3LUW exchanged 5.7 b/w with VK3KCD; gave Pertti 5.9 but couldn’t hear G4HMG/P at all.
At 0736z, Klaus gave Alain 5.4, ZL2JPM 5.4, PA0SDZ 5.4, F1CFA 3.2, G3OKT 3.3, and EA7GSU 5.9. Klaus was 5.7 here but came up to 5.9 later when he turned his beam towards G. When looking at VK, Klaus gave Bill 5.8
F4GHB then gave ZL1BFS 5.4, G3OKT 5.4, Vitor 5.9+10dB, F1CFA 4.6. Alain was 4.6 with QSB here.
Vitor gave PA0SDZ 5.9 and said G3OKT was difficult at 3.3.
Les and Pertti exchanged 5.9 b/w.
G4HCK was 4.6/9 QSB here, gave VK4ZD 5.8/9. Bill was down to 5.8 by 0734.
Bill said that details of the RI Convention Station VI2R in Sydney would soon be given in The Communicator. It would probably operate 30th May until 5 June.
Bill also reported communication with a Brazilian Rotarian who might provide a ROAR station at the Sao Paulo RI Convention in 2015.
G3OKT and HB9CQS closed the net at 0757z.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
We had given F4GHB the QRG 3693 on 20m for this net but Tommy was already on 3694 to avoid QRM when I joined at 0800z. Alain did later find us and was heard at 5.7 by G3LUW and at 4.7 by me in S8 noise, but was hardly copied by most net members, particularly G2FUU.
PA3AHC was also there but Malcolm could not be copied by any UK station.
Tommy G2FUU was net control and was 5.9+20dB here. Tommy was just copiable by G4HMG/P and 5.8/9 with G7OAI, but Tommy could only just tell John was there.
G7OAI/P was 5.9+20dB here and gave me 5.9+30dB.
G4HMG/P John and Diana on Back Down was 5.9+10 with me and 4.6 with G7OAI.
G3LUW was 5.9 with G7OAI and 5.9+20dB here.
G3HWQ in Huddersfield called in and got 5.7 from G3LUW. Jack was 5.9+20dB here.
The net closed at 0840 but G4XOE Ted, an early Rotary acquaintance of G4HMG from Bracknell Club, called John - was not heard, and said John was down in the noise for him. Ted who was running only 7.5w to a military rig, was 5.9+10dB here. I relayed 73s between G4HMG/P and G4XOE and closed at 0900z.

From Malcolm PA3AHC
The UK 80m morning net was "white-noised out "here, hence no contacts. The Dutch net is also on 692 part of the time which QRM blankets everything nearby, but I still keep trying.

1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,292
From Pertti EA7GSU
Bad week!
The Sunday 1200utc net was the usual Mike, N4PF and me. It started OK
him being 57/8 but Mike had problems in receiving me. So, after 5 min
I decided to stay on qrg and kept calling ROAR every few mins. About
1220 I called Mike again but the prop's had disappeared already.

1800z – 1830z RIBI evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Bob WB7RQG
I cancelled the net, too much QRM. Will try again next week.

From Pertti EA7GSU
NA net was scrambled by a QSO party station nearly on same
freq. He was beating completely the ROAR net if it was in the air. I
had no verification.

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 29th April 2014 NZ 80-m net on 3693

0700z – 0730z Tuesday 29th April 2014 EUR net on 7172
From John G3OKT
QRZ conditions were SFI 121 A 6 K 1 Sunspots 79. Local (UK) propagation and
several DLs very strong but no sign of Pertti.
G4HMG/P was 5.9 at 0700z in QSO on 7174 with DJ8CL, who was 5.9+20 here. John heard me at 5.9 (later +ca 60dB!!)
When he closed with Reiner, we QSY’d to 7150 in search of :
G3LUW who was 5.9+20 here and gave me 5.9. John HMG heard Brian at 5.9+.
Malcolm, PA3AHC came in here at 5.9+10dB, gave Brian 5.7 and got 4.7, but was only 2.2 with G4HMG/P.
Malcolm tested both his long wire and spider antennae – the latter better by about 10dB and with advantage that it will fit in his the roof space.
The net closed at 0743z

From Pertti EA7GSU
40m net is suffering of deteriorating propagations,
the skip is short. One kc higher up were two Spanish fellows chatting
and they masked you with 59++ signal. I detected Brian and it had been
readable if not the EA's....!
20m may be better in spite of it's limitations?
(later) Yes, I understood that you were several hams on the qrg but the
Spanish qrm was just a murder. They won't be there always!

That’s all for now,
73’s
