Observations by John G3OKT
John EA/G4HMG and Coco YO9BC first on at 0745. John 57 with me, Coco 59+10. Coco closed at 0803 for a meeting and John soon left to prepare for Diana’s visit to specialists tomorrow about removing her leg plaster.
Brian G3LUW and Bill VK4ZD up next, Bill using the new cubical quad for the first time on the net at full height and using Diane’s IC736 rig with an ICOM mic which had slightly different tone (more mid range?).
Peter VK3KCD not heard at 0755 (he was 55 with Coco) and just hearable by 0850
Doug ZL1BFS just hearable at 0800 (he was 55 with Coco); up to 56 by 0810
Klaus HB9CQS 59+20 at 0803
Pertti EA7GSU 57 with me at 0803, got 59+ from Bill VK4ZD. Pertti had lost an antenna last night in strong winds.
Phil VK2MCB just hearable at 0815 above s5 noise level
Bill was just hearable at 0755 (Coco gave him 59) up to 57 at 0810 and by 0845 we were exchanging 59!

Left net at 0850 to open the 80m net at 0900.

0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,6945
These notes by Net controller John G3OKT
We had ten on the morning 80m net. Including Malcolm PA3AHC who was 57 bw with me but not heard by other participants. Brian G3LUW (59+25), John G7OAI (59+10) , Mike G4WRU (58/9, gave me 59+10) , Don G0JWE (59+ both ways), John G3JJR (59+10), Norman G0MMO (59+20) , Tommy G2FUU (59+10), Bruce G0PCS (59) and Malcolm PA3AHC.
Main topic Bill’s funeral at Horwich tomorrow. Brian and Margaret had planned to go and had booked accommodetion but weather now deemed prohibitive. Brian had seen 22 emails appreciating Bill’s contribution to ROAR and had edited them together and sent on to Duncan. John and Pauline decided weather too bad to travel; Pauline had telephoned Josie. All agreed to sending a floral tribute to Bill to Josie and Duncan. John G3OKT to arrange. John held a 1 minute silence (unmodulated carrier) for Bill at 0930. Bruce had known Bill for 23 years since ROAR AGM at Midsomer Norton. Norman made first contact in 1990 and felt Bill had been ever present since. Bill had been a mainstay of Rotary since taking over from Reg Lee G4EWY and would be sadly missed.
Elizabeth phoned John after the net – she had not heard of his passing until today on the net.
Bill de Bass G4LXD of Thetford Rotary Club e-mailed John after the net to note that he had been saddened to hear of Bill’s passing.

0800 - 0855z 40m Net on 7,180 on Tuesday 22 Jan 2013
John G3OKT called CQ, Jean Pierre F1CFA returned, initially 53 both ways rising to 57 both ways by 0830. As Jean Pierre closed, Malcolm PA3AHC called, 59 both ways, Malcolm running 100W to spider beam antenna below head height! Normal antenna (20m single element rotary) was frozen up!. Excellent signal considering. Interesting contacts but no other callers. Band noisy S5/6 QRM.
