Roar Nets Report September 8th and September 10th 2013
From QRZ : SFI 99 (108) A10 (11) K (3) (figures in brackets last week)
0515z-0600z ANZO Net on 7118
From Peter VK3KCD
Bill VK4ZD was absent from the nets as he was in Adelaide to celebrate his mothers 88th birthday. Phil VK2MCB answered my call with a 5x8 signal. Later we were joined by Peter VK3FPSR/m. He was good copy at Phil’s but I had great difficulty in reading him. He however had good signals from both Phil and me. Peter reported that the clean up from the recent tornado which went through his area earlier in the year is now nearly complete.
0600z - 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,293 Long Path
From Peter VK3KCD
I was first heard by Brian G3LUW we exchanged up to 5x7 reports. Miika OH2BAD was in the chair and had a good 5x8 signal and he gave me 5x7 which remained consistent throughout the net. Jean-Pierre F1CFA was only 4x3 here and gave me 5x3, Pertti EA7GSU was 4x3 increasing to 5x4 and I got 5x4-5. Coco YO9BC was 5x9 gave me 5x6-8 and Alain F4GHB was 5x7 gave me 5x6. Also present but not useful signals here were Phil VK2MCB, John EA/G4HMG and Malcolm PA3AHC. Apparently John ZL2JPM was heard briefly but made no contacts. The net was closed at 0650z
From Phil VK2MCB

From Brian G3LUW
Despite the SFI at 99 being below 100 for the first time since 14 June, and two international contests (RSGB Field Day & JARL ALL ASIA), the 14293 net was very successful. The A & K indexes were low, which helped.
Miika OH2BAD was talking to Jean-Pierre F1CFA at 0600. Miika was 5&9 but I heard nothing of J-P. Miika gave me 5&9 and we were called by Peter VK3KCD.
I exchanged reports with Peter – 5&4 both ways. Phil VK2MCB called in with a similar signal strength. Coco YO9BC was very strong but he was only able to stay
for a short while. There were eleven on the net in total, the others being John EA/G4HMG, Pertti EA7GSU, Malcolm PA3AHC & Alain F4GHB. Peter said that John ZL2JPM called in but none of the Europeans heard him. As usual, all the signals
gradually increased in strength, and the two Australians were 5&8 at 0645. I had a brief contact with Alain as the net closed but only 5&4 both ways. The two Spanish stations were 5&9 throughout.
Bill,VK4ZD and John,G3OKT will be back next week.
From Alain F4GHB
I was in the ROAr qso this morning on 14.293 - Pretty good propagation
OH2BAD Miika ........I gave him 59 +10 and he gave me the same report
VK3KCD Peter ......56 and he gave me 55
EA7GSU Pertti ....59+10 and he gave me the same report
VKMCB Phil .......56 and he gave me 55 ( I called him Bill sorry Phil.. !! )
G3LUW Brian .....55 and he gave me 53
I didn't copy Malcom PA3AHC because he was too close to me
I knew that Bill VK4ZD was at his mother's birthday1
4 degrees this morning, no wind and the sky is a little bleu a little grey
From Jean Pierre F1CFA
This morning, the management of the sunday morning meeting was well done by OH2BAD, received 58 in the South France. WO9BC was 58 too, VK3KCD was 57, VK2MCB 57 too.
G3LUW was 41, G4SMG 41 but you G3OKT also Pertti G7GSU and Malcom PA3AHC just suspected.
A Russian Station was 1 KHz lower, running 2 KW, splattering large, standing on the frequency, refusing to make a QSY, speaking a perfect English. Not a gentleman ! I left the QSO at 6h20 UTC, unable to hear somebody else.
My narrow valley is open North-East / South-West. I am in touch with the Russians stations (!). But I have to jump over the mountains for the North / South communication and it's sometimes difficult.
During night it was raining Cats and dogs, Local temperature 17°C, 989 HPa, sky closed and cloudy.
0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
Brian G3LUW controlled the 80m net. Conditions were better than of late, but only four other members called in. John G7OAI/P was set up on the hill outside Rochdale with a good signal. John G3JJR, Tommy G2FUU and Mike G4WRU were all 5&9 We closed an interesting net at 0845. I was unable to take part in the lunchtime .
1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,293
From Pertti EA7GSU
Mike, G8LES was there already and other members on QRG were Joe AF1E, Mike N4PF, both with good 55 .. 56 signals. We made it with Malcolm, PA3AHC and I heard, (again) Bert VE3BGG 44. Klaus came to say hello and surprisingly I heard also John EA/G4HMG 58 both ways.
So quite good! I closed net at 1245.
1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,694
Brian G3LUW was joined by Mike G4WRU, Tommy G2FUU and Mike G8LES.
on the evening 80m net. Conditions were excellent and we chatted for 35 minutes.
LES is doing a great deal of work recruiting new members in his District, with considerable success.
1900z - 1930z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Bob WB7RQG
I was net control with 12 checkins but five did not stick around for the entire net. Band was quiet and many signals were very good. Those checking in were; Ed, N4EDT Pertti, EA7GSU
I gave him a 4/3 and he gave me a 5/4.Conditions did not last long and he faded away. It was wonderful to hear Pertti so well for a short time. Others checking in were Jack KF5BD, Joe W0TBC who heard Pertti also. David, KF5WDJ in New Mexico Bert, VE3BGG at 5/8 Bob, K6WEZ in Central California Phil, KF5OFW John, W8AUV and Jim, KH2AR mobile W4.
From Pertti EA7GSU
The propagation is getting better, I checked in with N4EDT but made QSO with WB7RQG as well getting him 54. I heard several non members check-in's with reasonably good signals. Joe, W0TBC was stronger than Bob! And what’s more, I heard again Bert, VE3BGG checking in!!
A stubborn Danish contester located himself on the frequency and seemed not to be interested to listen in between!! But I think I heard also W8AUV John, our past president with good signal. That damn QRM!!!
0700z – 0730z Tuesday September 10th NZ 80-m net on 3693
0730z – 0830z Tuesday September 10th EUR net on 14.150
From John G3OKT
Today’s QRZ forecasts : SFI 94, A4 and K0
EA/G4HMG John returned to my CQRI at 0714z at 5.9+10dB, confirmed the start time should be 0730z, apologized for his limited time before a busy day, and said he will not be on the ANZO net on Sept 15th. We discussed John’s itinerary for the RIBI 2014 AGM.
Phil G4DCI called in at 5.9 with me (or 5.5 with 20dB signal attenuation on my YAESU which is clearly in need of calibration. All following RST’s are after 20dB atten.)
Pertti EA7GSU called in at 0726 at 5.9+10dB here and exchanged 5.9 both ways with
G3LUW Brian. Brian was 5.6 and gave me 5.4. He was 5.9+10dB with G4DCI.
G4DCI Phil got 5.6 from Brian and 5.9+20dB from EA7GSU.
Pertti could only just hear EA/G4HMG, but gave me 5.9 and Phil 5.9+20dB.
Malcolm PA3AHC got 5.7 from Pertti, but was only hearable by G3OKT later at 5.3. John EA/G4HMG heard Malcolm call in, gave 5.9+ to G3OKT, 5.9+20dB to G4DCI, 5.9+ to G3LUW, but could only just tell Pertti and Malcolm were there.
Jean Pierre F1CFA came in at 0745, just hearable by me at 3.5 in between “blasts of a ship’s horn type of intermittent QRM” which was S9+20dB !
Jean Pierre could not be heard by G3LUW nor EA7GSU.
I had to leave the net at 0755 to attend an early Rotary event.
Brian and Pertti confirmed that the 20m net start at 0730z was a good time for them at present.
That’s all for now, 73’s to all
