September 29th and October 1st 2013
From QRZ : SFI 106 (110) A 2 (8) K 0 (figures in brackets last week) 0515z-0600z ANZO Net on 7118 From Bill VK4ZD Noel VK2IWT is back from NA and was first to check in on 40m with a good 59 signal. After hearing about our plans to run special POLIO stations in February 2014 he has committed to activate VI2POLIO. Phil VK2MCB called in from his mobile and was 45 to me. I had static peaking to S8. Phil said that he was still on track to get his quad in the air during the next few months. John VK4IAA (a visitor in Killarney Caravan Park) called in with a good 59 signal and was able to contact all on frequency. Diane VK4KYL also called in briefly at the end of the sched. 0600z - 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,292 Long Path From Bill VK4ZD The saga continues with the Russians ignoring the frequency already being in use and simply trying to bull-dose their way onto the frequency. John G3OKT and I kicked off at 0555z. His signal was initially 55 building to 57 and then 59. He initially gave me 58, later peaking to 59+10 Miika OH2BAD was next with his usual 59+ signal and gave me 59+10 Phil VK2MCB/m was 57 to Miika and 33 to me Brian G3LUW was 56 peaking to 58 and gave me 55-7 Malcolm PA3AHC was there but was only 1.1 to me; I am told he heard me 57 Jean-Pierre F1CFA was a good 55 and gave me 57-9 Henk PA3FIC (a visitor) was 55 and gave me 57 at 0608z Coco YO9BC was 59+5 and gave me 59+10 - he went QRT at 0625z after advising that his radio club had sent a letter of complaint, on our behalf, to the Russian authorities regarding their use of the frequency during our net. John EA/G4HMG was 55 when I heard him here Alain F4GHB called in with a 59 signal and gave me 59+ Pertti EA7GSU was 59 when he got propagation and gave me 59+10 Wally VK6YS was 57 to me and succeeded in working a bunch of Europeans. Tommy G2FUU called in at the very end with a respectable 57 signal and gave me 58-9 I closed the net at 0714z Incidentally, we have the Oceania DX contest next week so I may not be on the net for most of the hour. The contest does not finish until 0800z. From John G3OKT Bill VK4ZD was a fine 5.8 with me from his first CQ, and by 0630 was up to S9+10dB. Bill gave me 5.5-7, increasing to 5.9 by 0637. Noel VK2IWT was back from the US but I had no copy here. Phil VK2MCB/M was just hearable at first, came up to 4.5, gave me 5.5. Gave Bill 5.9+, and received 5.3 to 5.5 from YO9BC, and 5.7 from OH2BAD. Bill said Phil was an excellent mobile signal. Miika OH2BAD was 5.9+30dB with me, gave VK4ZD 5.9+10 and G3LUW 5.9+. Brian G3LUW was in the noise initially, but QSB’d up to 5.7 with me. Gave Bill 5.5? Initially the frequency was very clear, but severe Russian QRM started soon after 0600 and remained until 0700, in spite of repeated requests to QSY. Around 0650, the interference was Bedlam! Malcolm PA3AHC was not heard here, but gave VK4ZD 5.7. Was only 1.1 with Bill. Jean Pierre F1CFA was not heard here, but got a peaking 5.9 from Bill. Gave Bill 5.7. Alain F4GHB was just hearable (2.4?) in the QRM. Alain could hear VK2MCB. Henk PA3FIC got 5.5 from VK4ZD. Coco YO9BC got 5.7 from OH2BAD, 5.9+10dB from me and gave VK4ZD 5.9+10. Coco gave me 5.8/9, got 5.9+5dB from VK4ZD, and was copying PA3AHC very weakly John EA/G4HMG was getting S9 QRM from the Russians, but gave VK4ZD 5.7 using his G5RV, and gave G3LUW 5.9+20dB at 0635. At 0636, Brian was peaking 5.8 with Bill VK4ZD Wally VK6YS was not as strong as previous weeks – initially only 1.5 in the QRM. He got 5.8 from OH2BAD and 5.7 from G3LUW, gave F4GHB 5.7 and was later 4.6 with me when the QRM cleared. IZ6RIG was heard strongly, but Miika thought he was not calling our net. Pertti EA7GSU gave Wally 5.5-6; Brian G3LUW 4.4 and QSB’d up to 5.9+15dB; got 5.9 from both Miika and Bill. Pertti was also 5.9 here by 0700. Tommy G2FUU called in as the net was closing at 0712 – he gave VK4ZD 5.8/9 and received 5.7 from Bill. Tommy was 5.5 with G3OKT. VK5VFM may have been heard at the end of the net? From Alain F4GHB Here is my report from the middle of France concerning the Rotary net on 14.293. VK4ZD Bill gave me a good 59 and I gave him also a beautiful 59 + I gave a solid 59 +20 to YO9BC Coco VK2MCB/mobile gave me 55 and I gave him 56 EA7GSU Pertti gave me 59 and I gave him 59 G3LUW Brian 44 but later, on 3.694, it was better with a good 57 !! VK6YS Wally 57 and he gave me also 57 OH2BAD Miika 59+ Unfortunately I didn't copy J-Pierre F1FCA..... we are too close !! 0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694 From John G3OKT who was net control A good and well attended net. Brian G3LUW, Mike G4WRU, John G3JJR, Tommy G2FUU, Norman G0MMO, Bruce G0PCF and Don G0JWE were all 5.9+ with low background noise. Alain F4GHB called in and was 5.7 with Brian and me, and 5.6 with Mike. John couldn’t work Alain though he was hearable; Tommy couldn’t read Alain either. Bruce had noise at S9 but read Don and Norman OK. Aiden G0PSH a visitor in Stoke on Trent, called in and was 5.9 here and 5.5 with Brian. Neither Bruce nor Mike could hear him. John said that Pauline was still in hospital, having picked up an infection. We were all glad to hear that Mike was well after his treatment, and Tommy’s minor eye operation had gone OK. From Alain F4GHB John G3OKT has accepted me in the QSO for " inter UK" and I thank him once more G3OKT gave me 57 and I gave him 57 as well G3LUW Brian 57 . He gave me 57 G2FUU Tommy 55 but I'm not sure that he copied me !! 1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,293 From Pertti EA7GSU The god of communication and trade, Mercurius was favorable to us and we were six stations with reasonable audibility. Coco, YO9BC was 57 but after turning his beam came with 59 sig. I got 56/8. Malcolm PA3AHC changed 56 - 57/8 with me. Mike N4PF was briefly in the air and we were 55 / 56. Klaus came 58 and I was readable with him. Just when closing the net at 1225 I heard, but just once, VE3BGG with apr. 56 signal. He didn't come back to me in spite of long calling on A1/A3. But definitively propagations are improving 1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,692 From John G3OKT I called in briefly at 1717z and stayed until the net ended at 1723. Brian G3LUW was net controller. Tommy G2FUU and I swapped 5.9+ reports Derek G0SQH was 4.9+10dB with me – consistent with the high noise level! 1900z - 1930z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287 From Bob WB7RQG Good net today. Signals better than last week. I acted as net control. The following checked in; Ed, N4EDT Pertti, EA7GSU who I copied at 4/4. He gave me a 5/5 so we chatted a bit. Great sport. Wayne, K4JD, a guest, also had a short QSO with Pertti. each had 5/7 with each other. Dave, W1LRC mobile a guest Paul, KC2WD another guest and member Dan, KB6NU from Ann Arbor, Michigan. 0700z – 0730z Tuesday October 1st NZ 80-m net on 3693 0730z – 0830z Tuesday October 1st EUR net on 7170 From Brian G3LUW We had decided to try 40m again this week. It was reasonably successful with Don, G0JWE 5.7 and Phil G4DCI 5.9, but we had trouble copying Pertti EA7GSU. There was a bonus as Ian GM4JAE called in and was good copy in England. 40m should improve as we run into winter, but we will revert to 20m again next week. That’s all for now, 73’s to all John G3OKT |
