0515z-0600z ANZO Net on 7118
From John G3OKT
Peter VK3KCD was in London, having met up with me for an eye-ball QSO on Oct 5th.

From Bill VK4ZD
I called in briefly (during the Oceania DX Contest) to say hi to Noel VK2IWT and Phil VK2MCB

0600z - 0700z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,292 Long Path
From Pertti EA7GSU
The changing propagations are preparing interesting Sundays! Here is my experience. The Anzo net at 0600z was completely dead. I heard nothing, then like through fog I heard Coco with 51 signal ! Bit by bit more stations became audible, Miika OH2BAD with 59, then Klaus HB9CQS, first just 44 but growing quickly to the usual 59.
PA3AHC had found a Heathkit SB200 PA and was getting 300W out of it. He was 57. Towards the end of meeting I heard Brian G3LUW with 31 and a few minutes later John G3OKT came with 59+. I got also Les PA0SDZ with 58 but what was strange I heard not a single ANZO signal in spite of many others working them.
After closing the net I had a few words with Malcolm using my IC-735 and 100W. And then!!! came Doug with 57 signal calling me! My yagi was pointing North! All in all an interesting Sunday. I think we have a major change in prop's after the equinox.

From John G3OKT
The band was quiet to begin with - no sign of VK/ZL stations, but thankfully no QRM either. The fact that Russian stations later appeared on the frequency at 5.9+20dB at exactly 0700z suggests that they have already made a one hour time shift for better propagation?
Miika OH2BAD was in QSO with Malcolm PA3AHC at 0555. Miika was at his brother’s QTH OH2BR in case discussion in Russian was needed to manage the QRM, but this wasn’t necessary and he left at 0618. Miika was 5.9+20dB with me, gave YO9BC 5.7 and Malcolm 5.9 from the side of his beam! Miika gave me 5.9, and gave Phil VK2MCB 5.7 (I could hear nothing of Phil)
John VK5HX (a visitor near Adelaide) got 5.8/9 from Miika then moved off to QSO with John DL9KU, who was just hearable here.
Brian G3LUW gave Miika 5.9 but Brian was only 5.5 with me – he left at 0615.
Coco YO9BC and I exchanged 5.9 reports b/w; Coco left early for his usual meeting.
At 0630z I could just hear Klaus HB9CQS in contact with Bill VK4ZD but no copy of Bill here. Klaus was only 3.3 QSB with me but was beaming away from me. Klaus heard Miika at 5.7.
Pertti EA7GSU was there at 0630 but I could only hear occasional words with QSB. I think Pertti heard Brian at 4.3. Brian said he heard no VKs at all.
At 0640, I heard Bill VK4ZD for the first time talking to Klaus – both about 2.2 (?). Bill quickly gained strength and gave me his Contest number 982. I think he then returned to the Oceania Contest.
Les PA0SDZ appeared at 0645 and was 5.8/9 with Pertti, Q5 but in the noise for Klaus, and was hardly hearable here. Nevertheless, Les gave me 5.3; Klaus 5.3-6 (?) and at best, Les was 3.3 with me.
Suddenly around 0645 Pertti came up to 5.9+10dB and gave me 5.9. Klaus was still only S3 with me but during a gap in the QRM, he was quite Q5.
Doug ZL1BFS also appeared during the drop in QRM and was Q5 though only S1 or 2 with QSB. Klaus gave Doug 3.4 and came up himself to 5.7 as the net ended.

From Jean Pierre F1CFA
I was there on last Sunday morning...VK4ZD gave me 58 and I gave him 59 !!
VK2MCB was strong too, but no contact with him.
At the beginning of the net meeting, I heard nothing...No Russian stations, which was very surprising.....So silly morning !
Then the band opened step by step and I heard Bill, stronger and stronger.
I just suspected your signal. G3LUW too. Then the net closed

From Doug ZL1BFS
At 6:00 I could hear nothing at all - no VKs, and no Europeans. Then when Klaus appeared he was 5.7-8, and remained so for the rest of the net. He returned 5.7-8 to me, too.
For the rest of the time, I could hear the faintest of voices from time to time, but nothing better than Readability 2. Several times I did recognise the intonations of Pertti's voice, but not readable. Bill VK4ZD came on for 10 minutes in the middle of his Oceania contest, and was 5.9+10.
Then at 7:10, Pertti appeared as 5.5, so I gave him a call and he returned 5.7 Then he virtually disappeared again. Sorry I didn't hear you, or any of the Gs.

From Bill VK4ZD
I called in briefly (during the Oceania DX Contest) and exchanged 59 reports with Doug, ZL1BFS, Jean Pierre F1CFA was 55-6, Klaus HB9CQS was 57-8 and gave me 59, Malcolm PA3AHC was 31 and gave me 58, Phil VK2MCB was 31 and gave me 53, Les PA0SDZ was 53 and gave me 58, Dave ON7TZ (visitor) was 55-7 and gave me 59+10, and I heard John G3OKT just as I was about to go back to the contest.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT
Brian G3LUW was net control.
Brian, Tommy G2FUU, Mike G4WRU, John G3JJR, Norman G0MMO and Bruce G0PCF were all 5.9+ with me (Brian was +30dB!) on a relatively quiet frequency with little QSB. “Armchair copy” as John put it, except perhaps for Mike who lost Norman towards the end of the net.
Tommy apologized that he wouldn’t be able to attend the 1700z 80m net later.
Mike said he was feeling fine and had celebrated his first social event yesterday since his treatment finished. John said Pauline had now been discharged from hospital.
Brian said that John and Diana EA/G4HMG were currently in the UK and staying nearby, but that John was unsure of operating /M because their new car suffered RF Interference.
John G7OAI will be net controller next week. Neither Brian G3LUW nor Bruce G0PCF will not be on the nets next Sunday – they will be at the RSGB HF Convention.
Brian G3LUW has since informed me that sadly, Cicely Goldsmith the widow of John G4KTX, died on 29th September.

1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,293
From Pertti EA7GSU
Mike N4PF came straight back to my first call with 57 signal and I got the same. He told me that Bill VK4ZD was on qrg with S9 signal. Just then I heard Bert VE3BGG 55 but didn't have luck to get him. I had a German pile-up lady 1kc up and the usual Greek (?) net 2kc down both with admirable signal strength. I turned my beam and called Bill but in vain. Mike then, on behalf of Bill asked permission to call Bert and, oh boy!, I heard both parties 100% making the QSO (Bill 41, Bert 55)! I have a noise free QTH but I lack the six over six and an illegal PA!
Malcolm PA3AHC was 57 with his acquisition and told he was driving the PA with only 35W and having 3dB amplification. He hopes to get up to 100W drive and to get 1kW out.
At 1234hrs I closed the net.
Malcolm PA3AHC has since e-mailed : I've managed to twiddle( XYL calls it fiddelling) my reserve combo of TS480 + HK SB201 up to > 500w output with some more to come hopefully next Sunday. Sure gets through those oak + acacia trees !

From Bill VK4ZD
As Monday was a public holiday I took the opportunity to stay back at Lockyer Waters. Although I wasnt able to hear any Europeans, Mike N4PF and I exchanged 59 reports. I was later able to QSO with Bert VE3BGG but although his signal was peaking 55 there seemed to be very fast QSB. It was great to have propagation into NA again.

1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

1900z - 1930z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Pertti EA7GSU
The National NA net was run by Joe W0TBC. I exchanged reports with him on CW, he was 45 and I got 449. I heard also Bob NU3Q with 57 signal but had no QSO. There was traffic on the frequency but too weak to copy anybody. The Net closed 1932hrs.
From Bob WB7RQG Ed, N4EDT and I were out of town on Sunday so we missed the net. Joe Simonet, W0TBC was net control but I could not reach Joe for the list of checkins.

0700z – 0730z Tuesday October 8th NZ 80-m net on 3693

0730z – 0830z Tuesday October 8th EUR net on 14.150
From John G3OKT
I called CQRI at 0730 on 14.150 but there was no response. At 0710, I heard Jean Pierre F1CFA calling CQ on 14.152 – he was a fine 5.9+10dB signal here and heard me at 5.9+.
Malcolm PA3AHC was very strong with Jean Pierre – 5.9+20dB - but only just hearable here under S8 QRM. However, by 0800 he came up to 5.7 and the QRM from neighboring stations subsided. DX conditions were good - I heard a ZL4 on 14.140 at 5.9!
There being no other ROAR stations in evidence, we closed the net at 0805z.

That’s all for now, 73’s to all
