Roar Nets Report October 20th and 22nd 2013
From QRZ : SFI 133 A 3 K 0

0615z-0700z ANZO Net on 7118
From Bill VK4ZD After spending the weekend on JOTA I succeeded in getting myself totally confused with net times. I ended up coming to this net at 0715z and actually spoke to Noel VK2IWT who was 59+20 to me.
Ivan VK4BIB (visitor) called in to me and was 59+30.
Andy VK4TH/P (visitor) was running 10w into a squid pole and was 55-7 and gave me 59+20.

0700z - 0800z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,292 Long Path
From Bill VK4ZD
Thanks to Klaus for alerting me by a Skype message that I was late for the net. I eventually checked in at 0745z.
My sincere apologies for being late.
The first station I heard was Pertti EA7GSU who was 57 and gave me 59+
Klaus HB9CQS and I exchanged 59 reports
John G3OKT was 55 to me and gave me 59+
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 53 and gave me 56-7
Malcolm PA3AHC was 31 and gave me 56-7
Doug ZL1BFS also called me at the end and we exchanged 59 reports

From John G3OKT
The Russians were already there at 0655z on 14.292 MHz. At 0700 I happened to hear Brian G3LUW on 14.295 MHz working Ulrich DL1R (a visitor). Brian was 5.7 with QSB with me, Ulrich a massive 5.9+20dB from a Munich apartment 65m above the ground using a 3 el beam! Ulrich gave both Brian and me 5.9+20dB.
Malcolm PA3AHC was also there and gave me (through Brian) 5.5 but I had no copy of him.
Pertti EA7GSU came up and we exchanged 5.9 b/w. He got 5.6/7 from Ulrich and could hear Doug ZL1BFS at 5.5. We decided to stay on 14.295 but Pertti kept calling on 14.292 from time to time to bring Rotarians to the higher frequency.
Phil VK2MCB came in well peaking 5.7 with me but with deep QSB; gave me 5.6 and got 5.6 from G3LUW and 5.4 from Pertti. Pertti was 5.7 with Phil, who was also getting Malcolm at 3.3
Klaus HB9CQS appeared at 5.9+25dB with me (both ways) and gave Phil 5.7/8 and Brian 5.9+15dB. Klaus was 5.9 with Pertti.
Jean Pierre F1CFA also appeared at 5.9 with me and gave me 5.8, 5.9 for VK2MCB with QSB down to 5.3, Pertti 5.9+20dB, and gave Klaus 5.5. At 0740 Malcolm was 5.9 with Jean Pierre.
Doug ZL1BFS gave Klaus 5.3 and received 4.4. G3LUW and Doug exchanged 5.4 b/w.
I then heard Malcolm PA3AHC at 3.3 with QRM from mischievous stations, and also got 3.3 from him. Pertti gave Malcolm 5.6.
Bill VK4ZD appeared apologetically at 0750 having misunderstood the new net time. Bill was a fine 5.9+10dB with me and on a clear channel. Bill gave Klaus 5.9 and was hearing Pertti well; Pertti gave Bill 5.9+5dB. Bill gave me 5.5.
Being net controller on 80m with RIBI from 0800z, I left the ANZO net at 0758z
Apparently Noel VK2IWT had been on frequency but had gone away again. Nothing heard here. Klaus explained that Karen was scheduled to have an operation in Zurich soon – we all wish her well.

0800z - 0900z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
From John G3OKT who was net control.
Good conditions and a clear frequency this week. Tommy G2FUU and Brian G3LUW were 5.9+30dB with me; Mike G4WRU and Bruce G0PCF were 5.9+20dB.
Mike reported that he had a scan booked for Nov 5th to see if his treatment had been successful. We all wished him well.
Malcolm PA3AHC called in and gave me 5.9 but was not so well heard by others in the UK. Around 0840, Malcolm came up to 5.9 with me. Brian gave Malcolm 4.4 and received 5.5; Malcolm said that he had heard Brian up to 5.9 with QSB on the earlier 20m net. On 80m, he was running 100W to a wire dipole.
Bruce G0PCF could not read Malcolm and for him Mike was just above the noise.
Tommy G2FUU gave Malcolm 3.4-6/7, who had some problems with a very strong Dutch net on 3692.
The Net closed at 0856, though Alain F4GHB said later that he had listened around 0900z and heard no-one!
Tommy G2FUU will be Net controller next week.

1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,293
From Pertti EA7GSU
The cross - Atlantic net at 1200utc was attended by Mike N4PF, Malcolm PA3AHC and me. The frequency was hampered by the German contest as well as Jamboree in the Air and Mike had problems with the QRM. I was able to copy both stations 57 - 58 but Mike heard only me with 55/7.
I thought to have heard just one shout by Bert VE3BGG but he didn't come back to my queries.
The slim participation and even more the not very good propagations at this time of the day makes me think of the viability of the net. Opinions needed, please!

1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

1900z - 1930z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Bob WB7RQG
We had a great net. Joe, AF1E was net control with a total of 11 checkins. We had 3 Internationals join us; Pertti, EA7GSU Sam, G6UUR and John, 9H1ET from Malta. The following also checked into the net;
Neil, W6FOG marine mobile parked in Morrow Bay just south of
San Francisco California Ed, N4EDT Joe, W0TBC Jack, KF5BD Dave, AE9PK and Dan, KB6NU and me WB7RQG.
I heard all but the internationals.

From Pertti EA7GSU
The Continental net is improving with Santa in sight! Ed N4EDT was 55/7 and Joe AF1E was 58 and gave me same. Other stations heard were Bob WB7RQG 41, Joe W0TBC 53 and faintly several more (waiting the pipe line to open, I suppose!). There were also other European visitors: G6UUR and 9H1ET but skip didn't favour me.
Next week (?), I intend to participate the CQ Worldwide SSB contest in SBSO on 10m with a ED7T call sign to keep the skills alive, hi! No serious effort will be made though! Just wrapping the 4:1 balun for the 10m 4-el Yagi

0700z – 0730z Tuesday October 22nd NZ 80-m net on 3693

0730z – 0830z Tuesday October 22nd EUR net on 14.150
From John G3OKT
(SRI from QRZ 136 A=2 K=0)
Propagation was generally fluttery and low with QSB until 0755 when there was a dramatic improvement in European signals. For example, I heard Jean-Pierre F1CFA at 0727 at only 5.2 but by 0755 he was 5.9+. Alain however was later still only getting Malcolm at 5.3.
Malcolm PA3AHC established 5.5 b/w with Jean Pierre, but with more (500W) power came in here at 3.7. I think Malcolm was getting Alain F4GHB at 5.8. Malcolm said he was getting me at 5.6/7.
Pertti EA7GSU and I were 5.9 b/w throughout. Pertti was getting Malcolm at 5.5 or 5.8 with higher power. Pertti initially gave Jean Pierre 3.1 and received 5.1.
Alain F4GHB established 5.9+ b/w with Pertti; was peaking 3.7 on syllables with me; and gave Malcolm 4.8. At 0755, Alain came up to 5.9+20dB with me!
At 0755, Jean Pierre was getting G3OKT at 5.9, PA3AHC at 5.8, and EA7GSU at 5.9+20dB (previously 5.4). Pertti also returned a report of 5.9+20dB for Jean Pierre.
Malcolm reported that Peter VK3KCD was concluding his European tour today, having lunch with Malcolm before flying home from Schiphol.
Pertti closed the net at 0805z.

That’s all for now, 73’s to all
