Roar Nets Report November 10th and 12th 2013
SFI 148 (145) A 16 (5) K 2 Sunspots 95 (figures in brackets from last week)

0615z-0700z ANZO Net on 7118

From Bill VK4ZD
I had huge storm noise on 40m - S9+20. I heard Noel VK2IWT best at 59. Phil VK2MCB was initially 37 and built to 49. Bryce VK2FADS was an excellent 48-59. Peter VK3KCD was stationary mobile but was only 1/1 to me

0700z - 0800z Europe - Anzo Net on 14,295 Long Path

From Bill VK4ZD
It looks like 14.295 is the safest bet to get a clear frequency.
We saw a double peak in signal strengths this week on many European stations
John ZL2JPM was 55 and built up to 58; he gave me 58
Jean-Pierre F1CFA was 56 and gave me 58
Phil VK2MCB and I exchanged 59+ reports. He did well into Europe
Doug ZL1BFS was 57-59 and gave me 59. He was heard well in Europe
Pertti EA7GSU was initially 43 building quickly to 59, and gave me 51 building to 59
John G3OKT was 56-7 and gave me 59+10
Brian G3LUW was 57 and gave me 57-59
Benny K5BJM (visitor) in Texas was 57 with my quad looking to Europe and gave me 57
Klaus HB9CQS called in at 0730z and was 59, giving me 59+10
John EA/G4HMG was 43 to me and I think gave me 57
Vitor CT1BJZ was 54 and gave me 57 - Great to hear him back

From John G3OKT
I heard Bill VK4ZD weakly at 0659 but he came up rapidly to 5.7 at 0708 and 5.9 by 0710, and never dropped below 5.8 during the rest of the net
Doug ZL1BFS got 5.7 from Bill but “fluttered” around S4 with me before coming up to 4.6. I think Doug gave me 5.4. By 0750 Doug was peaking 5.7 with me on his 80m dipole, gave ZL2JPM 5.7, and gave EA/G4HMG 4.2. Doug was 5.8 with Pertti.
Pertti EA7GSU came in with me at 5.8 and gave VK4ZD 5.5, revised to 5.8 by 0718. Pertti gave 4.2 for ZL2JPM and 5.5 for Phil VK2MCB.
Brian G3LUW got 5.7 from Bill and gave him 5.7/9. Bill gave me 5.6, later amended to 5.7/8.
Jean Pierre F1CFA could not be heard here at first and got 4.3 from VK4ZD. He suddenly came up here at 0725 to 5.9+20dB, also giving me 5.9+10dB. Jean Pierre gave VK2MCB 5.2 - later 5.5, gave ZL1BFS 5.3, gave Pertti 3.1 suddenly increasing to 5.9, ZL2JPM 5.1, G3LUW 5.2 and got 5.9+10 from Pertti.
By now G3LUW was getting ZL1BFS at 5.7, ZL2JPM at 5.5, Pertti at 5.9, and G3OKT at 5.3
I could only recognize the voice of ZL2JPM when he was getting 5.5-6 from VK4ZD
Phil VK2MCB was also just detectable by me and was not copied by G3LUW.
Benny K5BJM a visitor was just detectable by me and got 5.7 from VK4ZD
Klaus HB9CQS appeared at 5.9+25dB with me, got 5.9 from VK4ZD and gave Bill 5.9+10dB, and gave F1CFA 3.3. Klaus was having trouble with splatter but gave VK2MCB 5.5 when Phil was in the clear. Phil gave Klaus 5.5 also. Doug ZL1BFS gave Klaus 5.6/7. Klaus said that Karen expected to have her hospital operation on Wednesday 13th Nov and be back home by Friday. We all wish her well.
Vitor CT1BJZ came in at 5.7 with me at 0755. He gave VK4ZD 5.7, Klaus 5.9, ZL1BFS 4.5, F1CFA 5.5, and got 5.4 from VK4ZD. Vitor gave us welcome news that his XYL was getting better.
John EA/G4HMG came up at 0750 at only 5.6 with me, but with QSB peaked 5.9+10dB and then dropped again to 5.7 by 0807. John got 4.3 from VK4ZD, and gave ZL1BFS 4.4.
Brian G3LUW now came up to 5.7-9, said he was getting me at 5.9, got 5.9+10 from EA/G4HMG and Klaus gave me 5.9+35dB!
Coco YO9BC appeared, mystified, at 0810 having heard no-one on the net at 0700 and requested at z-time check.
Pietro IZ5WVP/P a visitor was 5.9 with me but hardly heard by VK4ZD

From Jean Pierre F1CFA
It was very surprising this Net meeting with low level and sudden high level of European Stations ! From 51 to suddenly 59+ !!
Probably a nice Cloud passing through !
Just a message for all the members : We are trying to push ahead a new Rotarian French Station for which the call is F1FBL. He has an old 2m equipment and is interested in finding a Decametric station not too old, not too new, and is also looking for suggestions for antennas, wires, a.s.o.
Please, send an encouragement message and suggestions to Serge Cousin "serge.cousin@numericable.fr". We'll get a new friend in a short time !!

0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,6935
From John G3OKT
Seven stations this week; Net controller was Brian G3LUW who thought that signals were down generally, though he was 5.9+30dB with me. He was 5.9 with G2FUU, gave G4WRU 5.7, G3JJR 5.8/9 and gave me 5.9+20dB.
Tommy G2FUU was 5.9+20dB with me, and Mike G4WRU 5.9+15dB.
Mike was only getting John G7OAI 5.5, Tommy 5.7, G3JJR 5.5 and G3OKT 5.9.
John G7OAI was 5.9+20 here and Bruce G0PCF 5.9+10dB. QSB later took Bruce to 4.9+20dB – R4 because of strong interference from ON4PTC/P a little lower in frequency.
Tommy worked ON4PTC/P after the net closed at 0945 and discovered that this was a memorial station from Passchendaele!

1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,292
From Pertti EA7GSU
The qrg was occupied so I off-tuned a bit (14292,62kHz)! But it didn't help in the numbers of participation.
We had a bit philosophical chatting with Mike, N4PF. The propagations were fair and variable between 59 to 41 both ways. We decided (I think it was us?) to keep going and meet on Sundays. I even thought to keep my Rx open on or around 14292 -14295 always when in the shack in case somebody wish to have a chat (seriously??). We cut-off at 1220utc.

1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,692

1900z - 1930z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,287
From Bob WB7RQG Ed
N4EDT was net control.
The following checked in; Pertti, EA7GSU Joe, W0TBC Tom, KN9H
Berlin,N9YCE. All those listed above made contacts with Pertti.
The following checked into the net but made no contact with Pertti;
Jack, KF5BD Joe, W0TBC and me, WB7RQG. The band was good.
From Pertti EA7GSU Activity on 14287kHz American net was vivid and propagations good although my power and antenna still aren't high enough. Ed, N4EDT was strongest when speaking to my direction but I heard well also W0TBC, WB7RQG and changed reports with Bob, KN9H (53/54) and Berlin, N9YCE (59+/59+). Many others heard, too (W4RNK, W6LMJ/FL and more). Not a bad evening!

0700z – 0730z Tuesday November 12th NZ 80-m net on 3693

0730z – 0830z Tuesday November 12th EUR net on 14.150
From QRZ SRI = 154 (147) A= 10 (5) K= 3 (1) Figures in brackets last week

From Pertti EA7GSU
I have dentist on Tuesday! Cannot be in the air.
CU on Sunday

From John G3OKT
I called CQ 0730 – 0740z, had no response and was just going QRT when I heard a very weak fluttery English voice talking to John EA/G4HMG, who was 5.9+10dB.
Brian G3LUW, very hollow and fluttery at first quickly came up to a solid 5.7
Diana G4MVV was a most welcome voice on the station of EA/G4HMG.
Jean Pierre F1CFA appeared at 5.9+10dB at 0752 but I shortly had to leave to walk the dog! Sorry Jean Pierre! A good QRG today, just S1 noise plus occasional QRN to S7, and sandwiched neatly between 2 very strong Russian stations.
From Jean Pierre F1CFA Sorry, I had a phone call just before the net meeting...I heard later G4HMG and G3LUW speaking on 14, 145 MHz, but they didn't copy my signal. They were 51. I heard the delicious voice of Diana, John's wife !!!

That’s all for now,
73’s to all
