SFI 116(111) A index 6(12) K=0(3) – Figures from QRZ (last week in brackets)
SF Index up on last week, but conditions not so good for Australia/New Zealand – most signals were below my S3-6 random noise level, except for Bill VK4ZD – his Cubical Quad at 16m height is working well – 5.8 throughout the net with good quality noise-penetrating audio
0715z - 0800z ANZO Net on 7118
This Net is flagged for a time change to 0615z -0700z on Sunday 24th March
From Peter VK3KCD:-
Phil VK2MCB and Noel VK2IWT were first on the scene this week and as a consequence Phil became Net Controller which he performed with great skill. They were joined by Bill VK4ZD, Doug ZL1BFS and myself. Propagation was good but Doug experienced a high noise floor at his QTH.

VK4ZD informed the Net that G3OKT John was now assembling the net reports for him to put on the IFROAR website.
Next week, March 17th, VK4ZD will attend his Rotary District Conference, but hopes to be back in time for the 20m Net. Bill suggested that recent propagation shift might better fit a Net starting 30 or 60mins earlier in the next few weeks. John G3OKT said UK Summer Time (z+1hr) starts on March 31- might be an advantage to align these ?
VK4ZD said ROAR not yet been told that it will have a place at the Lisbon RI Convention – he had been expecting to be told “early March”). Bill is arranging ROAR shirts for those intending to go.
Klaus HB9CQS has since e-mailed to ask who will attend the RI Convention in Lisbon. Would any possible participants to mail him.
His e-mail address is OK at QRZ.COM. At present he has listed the following ROAR members: Vitor, CT1BJZ, who is on the Organizing Committee - Pertti, EA7GSU - Malcolm, PA3AHC - our President, Bill, VK4ZD - Diane, VK4KYL - and Klaus.
The net closed at 0857z.
0900z - 1000z UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
(started on 3693 but moved to avoid a strong German station).
Conditions not so good, 20 – 40 dB of QSB here (G3OKT)
G4WRU Mike was Net Control : 5.7/9 QSB with me; 5.7 with Brian G3LUW
G3LUW Brian 5.9+20 with me; had to QRT for visitors at 0920
G2FUU 5.9+10dB, said G4WRU very weak and not fully copy-able. Mike was using his WINDOM antenna rather than his G5RV.
G3OKT joined the net at 0905
G3JJR John 5.9+ with G3OKT as usual
G0JWE Don was heard but dropped out
G0PCS Bruce may have been present but failed to respond to calls
G8LES Mike was 5.9+20 both ways with G3OKT but also only just able to hear G4WRU; Mike is having a Rotary video made – could do the same for ROAR if he receives some suitable pictures. To be discussed at the Barnstaple AGM in May.
Net closed at 0958
1200z - 1300z International Net on 14,293
Since Pertti was hampered by rain static and a thunder storm, Klaus kindly provided this report on the transatlantic net.
Propagation conditions were fairly good. The random noise level was high and the heterodyne signal still bothersome, but no severe QRM from other stations.
Pertti, EA7GSU - Mike, N4PF and Klaus, HB9CQS opened the net at 12:00z. Mike was 57-8 in Europe and had no trouble copying Pertti and Klaus.
At 12:08z John, G3OKT, joined the net. Big signal in Switzerland and John also worked Pertti and Mike before having to QRT with telephone QRM and his Mother's Day duties. (John later e-mailed reports : Pertti 4.4, Mike a good clear 5.6 and Klaus 5.9+20dB.)
At 12:19z Bert, VE3BGG, checked in after having been QRT for some time due to equipment trouble. Klaus got 57-58 and gave Bert 57. Pertti's S-meter continued to show 59+10 due to rain statics and Pertti had great difficulty copying Bert.
We also had a guest: At 12:26z SP2SPS, Carol, called in with a 59 signal and got a 59 report from Klaus.
At 12:30 Ed, K4EDT, called in from Alabama reporting that Teru san, JM2HBO, had called the net. No copy of Teru san in Europe and Ed also lost him. Ed and Bert had an exchange of reports.
At 12:43z only Bert and Klaus were left on the net and with no new check-ins so they decided to close the net.

1800z - 1830z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,694
2000z - 2030z N.AM Transcontinental Net on 14,288
0800z – 0830z Tuesday March 12th UK 40-metre Net on 7170
From Pertti EA7GSU:-
The 40m net on Tuesday, March 12, on 7170kHz at 0800utc:
I was there almost in time and heard John, EA/G4HMG talking with Brian, G3LUW. John, of course was 59+ and Brian 57. I got 59 resp. 58 from them. Prop's were fairly good but some slow QSB was indicating the change in the skip. Don, G0JWE was back from shopping and was not very strong to begin with but improved during the course. Band got very quiet and Don was occasionally out from the S-meter reading but full R5 without problems. My waves seem to hit Derby well, I got 59. He was well received by the others as well. Phil, G4DCI joint a bit later and was 55-7 with me. We had the pleasure of hearing also Diana, EA/G4MVV and understood the progress in walking without sticks was good.
Just when closing the net I heard someone talking and Phil got him. It was Malcolm, PA3AHC. I had no readable copy but the skip was failing us anyhow. UK stations were at that time already down by 2-3 S-units. We closed at 0835utc.
Next Tuesday we anticipate to have J-P, F1CFA back and maybe also John, G3OKT and who knows who else.
There maybe a need to adjust the time when days are getting longer, but that is for the next meeting.
