From John G3OKT
Conditions were not so good for ANZO this week but Eur. stations were very strong here later in the net. I was troubled by a wideband S9 noise signal, 1 min on and 4 mins off throughout the net, which made copy difficult. At 0800 ANZO stations were still S1 between the noise pulses and then totally blotted out every 5 minutes. VK4ZD was still not touching S1 even at 0810.
At 0730 Klaus HB9CQS appeared at 3.1 with ANZO voices in the background. At 0737 I heard VK4ZD giving reports but he was only 3.1 with me. At 0759 Klaus was still a “hollow 4.3” fluttering up to 5.5. Klaus gave ZL1BFS “very weak”, F1CFA 5.5, YO9BC 5.9+, VK2MCB 5.7 b/w and OH2BAD 5.9+15dB. I think Klaus gave Bill VK4ZD 5.9+15dB and me 5.7/8.
Coco YO9BC left at 0740 after wishing everyone Happy Christmas (including a very amusing Santa voice) and giving HB9CQS 5.9+10dB, EA/G4HMG 5.3, VK2MCB “weak” at 4.4, and VK4ZD 5.8/9.
Alain F4GHB was 5.9 here and gave VK4ZD 5.9, VK2MCB 5.6, ZL2JPM 5.5, OH2BAD 5.9, EA7GSU 5.9, HB9CQS 5.9, F1CFA 4.8, and YO9BC 5.9+10dB.
Pertti EA7GSU was 5.9+10 here, said that VK4ZD was only 4.1 at 0730 but by 0745 was 5.8. Bill gave him 5.5. Pertti gave HB9CQS and YO9BC 5.9+, said I was “strong”, gave ZL2JPM 3.1, VK2MCB 2.1, PA3AHC 4.1, EA/G4HMG 5.1 and F4GHB 5.9+.
F1CFA Jean Pierre was not heard here over the noise.
At 0815 EA7GSU gave F1CFA 5.9 bw, PA5AHC 5.7, EA/G4HMG 5.2, PA0SDZ 5.8 and got 5.3 from VK4ZD.
EA/G4HMG John was 5.8 here and gave VK4ZD 5.2. John came up to 5.9 at 0808 and with Diana on the mic as EA/G4MVV wished everyone seasonal greetings. John now gave Coco “very strong”, PA3AHC 5.9, Pertti 5.2, G3OKT 5.5, OH2BAD and HB9CQS and F1CFA and F4GHB all 5.6/7.
Les PA0SDZ was just a hollow voice here but was 5.4 with VK4ZD
Miika OH2BAD was initially 5.8 with me but quickly came up to 5.9+30dB – he gave me 5.9+20dB, VK4ZD 5.5, VK2MCB 5.6, Klaus and Alain 5.9+20dB.
Doug ZL1BFS got 5.3 from Pertti. At 0820 Doug was suddenly very strong with me – over the noise and about 3.8
Malcolm PA3AHC was only 2.3, fluttering to 5.5 between the noise pulses with me. He was 5.9 with OH2BAD and gave Miika 5.9+30dB. Malcolm was 3.1 with VK4ZD.
Phil VK2MCB also fluttered up strongly but unfortunately during my noisy period.
Jean Pierre F1CFA and I exchanged 5.9+10dB b/w at 0827.
The net closed at 0830, but I carried on with John EA/G4HMG who said “Far East was a wash out for him today” He said that he was not getting my noise.
Malcolm PA3AHC was only 2.3 still, but wished all a Happy Christmas.

From John ZL2JPM and Doug ZL1BFS by e-mail :
It is always a pleasure to be on the Sunday ANZO and Europe Nets – whatever the Sun's mood! Doug's new location is starting to produce some good results and John's recent trip to Lockyer Waters has empirical proof that all antennas need to be at Koala height and BIG! Plenty of Ideas!
The ZL Net extends its best wishes to all ROAR members for the forthcoming
year and a very Happy Christmas to you and your families wherever you may
be. We look forward to meeting you again on the air and of course at Convention in June.
73s -- With kind regards, The ZL ROARers Doug (ZL1BFS) and John (ZL2JPM)

We discussed VK4ZD’s suggestion of registering a special “end polio” callsign for 23rd February 2015. G8LES, G4WRU, G7OAI agreed it was a good idea – G3OKT volunteered to contact Oftel and discuss what could be registered.

From John G3OKT
Pertti EA7GSU and F1CFA were in QSO at 0730. Severe QSB at first; Pertti gave me 5.3-8 and he was 5.7 here.
Pertti called in VK4ZD who was 5.4 with him and Bill heard Pertti at 4.3.
Bill was 5.5 with me at that time and heard me at 5.4
Jean Pierre F1CFA was 5.7 with me but by 0740 was 5.9; he gave me 5.3-9 QSB
Diane VK4KYL was peaking 5.7 and just heard me in part at 3.3
Bill VK4ZD then came in at a steady 5.7 with me, got 5.5 from Jean Pierre and gave him 4.3.
At 0755 VK4ZD was getting stronger and gave Pertti S6.
F1CFA gave VK4ZD 5.5 by which time Jean Pierre was 5.9+10dB with me; Bill gave Jean Pierre 4.3
I had S9 QRM from 0750 from a nearby Eur station, but by 0807 Bill was peaking 5.9.
F4BEW, a visitor George from Southern France, called VK4ZD at 0805. George was 5.9+10dB here and gave Bill 5.9. George was peaking 5.9 with Bill.
Malcolm PA3AHC called in at a fine 5.9+10dB at 0807, but VK4ZD was taken over by IK8LVP, a visitor George near Naples.
The net closed at 0810 when Pertti and I, still suffering QRM, went for breakfast. Christmas Greetings were exchanged all round.

From Bill VK4ZD
Diane and I were able to attend this net due to there being no RC meeting this Tuesday. The 40m beam did its job well.
Excerpts from my log:
Pertti EA7GSU at 0720z was 43 and gave me 41
(Diane VK4KYL then operated the station whilst I had a shower)
Jean-Pierre at 0742z was 43 and gave me 55
Pertti EA7GSU at 0743z was 54 and gave me 55
John G3OKT at 0745-0800 was 54 and gave me 57
Pertti EA7GSU at 0757z was 56 and gave me 57
When Pertti said he was going QRT I then accepted calls from a number of other European stations.

That’s all for now,
73’s and may I wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year !
John G3OKT
