Roar Nets July 15 2012

Propagation poor,  K=5,  A=60,  Flux 141

0515z - 0600z Anzo Net on 7,118.
Many Thanks to Peter VK3KCD for the following report :-
Good Morning Bill
Again a busy net this week with Phil VK2MCB, Peter VK3FPSR, Bill VK4ZD, Doug ZL1BFS, John ZL2JPM and myself. John ZL2JPM reported that he had an item published in the ZL AR magazine, “Break In”, and was awaiting results. The earlier start on 20mx was a success with a good signal from Klaus HB9CQS for about 15 minutes before propagation deteriorated. As this coming weekend is our AGM in Canberra I will not be in Flinders.

0600z - 0700z  Europe - Anzo Net on 14,293.
Many Thanks to Douglas ZL1BFS for the following report :-
Thank you for changing the time. Signals from ZL on the ANZO net on Sunday 15 July 2012 were considerably better than we had experienced in previous weeks. For instance, Klaus HB9CQS was 56 at 0600Z, rising to 57 by 0625Z. Then within 10 minutes, signal strengths suddenly dropped, so that by 0635Z Klaus was 34, and barely readable. Exactly the same thing happened to Bill VK4ZD, so similar effects were evident on both short distances and long distances. If we had started the net at 0630Z as in previous weeks, we probably would not have had any useful communications at all.
I was operating portable at Whangaparaoa, near Auckland, using a 3 element collinear (three 5/8 wavelengths in phase) and using a 500 watt linear.
On Sunday 22 July I shall be at my home in Gisborne, using a 4 element Mosely Beam, so it will be interesting to compare signals.

and Many Thanks to Klaus

ANZO net, 06:00z – 07:00z

Solar cycle 24 continues to be a great disappointment but it helped that we started half an hour earlier. Heavy QRM from the IARU HF World Championship contest.

06:00z  VK3KCD, Peter from Flinders. 57 here. Got 58. Signals then slowly faded.

06:02z  ZL2JPM, John. 56 here, got 57. Later, ZL signals improved slightly before fading.

06:04z  VK4ZD, Bill. 57-59. Got the same. Good steady signal until suddenly lost.

06:06z  ZL1BFS, Doug portable from near Auckland. 55-56. Got 56-57. Will be at home QTH in Gisborne on Sunday next.

06:07z  CT/EA7GSU/P, Pertti. 59, got 59+20. Parked on eastern side of a hill. No VKs / ZLs.

06:10z  VK2MCB, Phil. 56, got 58. Remained steady for a while

06:12z  G3OKT, John. 56 QSB. Got 58. Unable to work Bill (ZD) for a start but managed later.

06:35z  EA/G4HMG, John. 56-59 here. Got 55 from John (OKT) but was not heard in VK / ZL.

06:37z  No answer from Bill (ZD). Called John (JPM) and Doug. No answer. I thought they had all gone QRT on purpose.

06:40z  Net closed

A mail from Doug (Thanks, Dough) tells me that he did not go QRT before 06:37z. Propagation conditions changed abruptly abt. 06:35 when he lost me.

Malcolm, PA3AHC, was there also, but was skipped out here.

Bill (ZD) will attend a conference in Canberra next Sunday. Hopes to meet Phil.

Pertti had just started his getting-to-know-Iberia trip. Expects to be QRV/P next Sunday.

Many Thanks to John G3JJR for the following report :-
Hi Bill Greetings from the ROAR Net. We trust you are making progress and send our best wishes, Let us know how you are getting on.  (Thanks John, Surgeons appointment promised for Wed 25/7)
Conditions for the UK 80 metre net were disappointing with low signal levels and slow QSB. Nevertheless g3luw, g7oai/p, g3okt, g0mmo, g0pcf, g8les, g2fuu, g0pcf and g3jjr made it a successful and enjoyable net.
Kind regards 73 John (g3jjr)
