Many thanks: During the RI annual convention I managed to work W5R twice and I take this opportunity to thank Dave for his tireless efforts in setting up the W5R convention station and keeping it running.

Also many thanks to Pertti for being our president over the past years and for operating W5R.

The W5R QSL manager is John Maier, W8AUV. He needs a SASE if a QSL card is required.

Footnote from Klaus :-

I will now go into semi-retirement, meaning that I will no longer use an alarm clock (mine offers my favourite music) to wake me up on Sunday mornings. Also, I will no longer rush from the breakfast table to attend the ANZO net or from our lunch table to be QRV for the Transatlantic net. Hence, I will not be able to send you a report regularly on ANZO net activities. I apologize, but I feel a need to cut down on my activities. After all, I will be 83 on D-Day. The best birthday present I have ever had.

73 de Klaus HB9CQS.

(My Sincere Thanks for your great assistance over many years Klaus. And what a day to have a birthday !

Happy Birthday and please join us whenever you can. g4yze)

1700z - 1730z UK evening 80-metre Net on 3,694
Just Tommy G2FUU, Mike G4WRU , Brian G3LUW and me !
Signals strong but band still very noisy, S9 noise here.

1800z - 1830z N.AM.Transcontinental Net on 14,288.
Many Thanks to Jack KF5BD for the following report :-
Dear Bill : WOW what a net the 1800 UTC net was today. Joe Spears AF1E was the net control joined by W5R Dave at the mic and Jack KF5BD who both did some relaying. The attendees were Reuben W2LGF [ who also made his contact with W5R] and Charles KI6DCD [who made his contact with W5R] W8AUV John who was mobile at rest in Indiana with a really big signal into ABQ, Guest W8FOO, Ken W8SOO, EA7GSU Pertti, Dave WN5V, and I think heard our Communicator Editor talking with Dave. Dave and Richard are on the same beam heading for me.

In order to hold the frequency 14.288 until net time Jack and Dave took turns spinning yarns. During that time Jack heard KI6DCD's big Signal from California and turned Chuck over to W5R. I heard the whole conversation including telling Chuck that The QSL mgr would receive a confirmation of the call---------ditto for Reuben W2LGF .
Both men should apply for their QSL cards by sending the SASE to W8AUV ASAP.

I Apologize if I have left any one out of this report. Three of our regulars were absent this week Jim W1QUO, Joe W0TBC, Bob WB7RQG. As remembered by scribe Jack KF5BD . Bill , I heard you on the net also sorry I did not get to talk to you.

Messages Received.
N.B. - Regarding the Convention station W5R :-
Dave WN5V explains that the system failed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the big river flooding disabling the internet connection between the New Orleans Convention Centre and his home location in Welsh 180 miles to the west.
Also I think we must give an "Honourable Mention" to Dave's XYL, Carolyn N4DHR who manned the home station during all operational hours - a legal requirement when operating a remote station.
Many thanks from us all Carolyn !
