Roar Nets April 10 2011

Propagation steadily improving.   K=0, A=5,  Flux= 105

0530z - 0600z  Anzo Net on 7,118.
Many thanks to Peter VK3KCD for the following report :-
Good Morning Bill.
The 0530 ANZO net on 7118 KHz had only myself and Bill VK4ZD to keep the frequency warm. I was troubled by probable computer hash and propagation was such that we exchanged 5 and 6 reports. Bill informed me that matters progress with the rehabilitation of the Lockyer Valley after the floods. By way of interest the Australian Broadcasting Commission will have a TV presentation on the Lockyer Valley post flood next Sunday at 1200 hrs local on the Landline program. I believe that this would be available on the ABC’s web site. My thanks to Bill VK4ZD for his informative reports during my absence.
Yir and 73 Peter VK3KCD.

0600z - 0730z  Europe - Anzo Net on 14,293 Long Path
Many thanks to Klaus for the following report :-
Greetings Bill,

It was a very fine net with 15 ROAR stations attending and one guest. Re-timing of the net to 06:00z - 07:30z appears to work well.

06:02z  VK4ZD, Bill. 59+10. Never below 59 for the next 1½ hours. Got an equally fine report from Bill.

06:02z  VK2GWK, Henk, from Nelson Bay for a brief visit. 59+10 both ways.

06:03z  VK3KCD, Peter. 59 both ways, fading to 56 over the next hour.

06:13z  G4YZE, Bill. 55 here when in the clear. Much QRM. Got 56. Peter was 55 in Bolton and Bill (ZD) 59.

06.14z  G3OKT, John. 33 QRM here, increasing to 55. Got 45 - 55. John got 56 from Bill (ZD) and 54 from Peter.

06:14z  G3LUW, Brian. 44 QRM here and no contact. Peter got 53 from Brian.

06:24z  PA3AHC, Malcolm. Skipped out, 22 - 33 presumably on back scatter. No contact.

06:25z  EA7GSU, Pertti. 59+10 both ways. Pertti got 55 from Peter.

06:33z  EA/G4HMG, John. Only 33 and no contact. A bit strange since Pertti was 59+, but seen before.

06:46z  PA0SDZ, Les. 22 here, later peaking at 54 QSB. Got 55.

06:46z  JM2HBO, Terusan called in. Too weak in Europe, but worked comfortably by Bill (ZD).

06:58z  ZL1BFS, Doug. 55 - 56 here. Got 57. Doug later disappeared suddenly. Mishap or QSB?

07:17z  VK2IWT, Noel. Peaking 55. QSB. Got 59. Noel got 54 from Les.

07:31z  OH6 Sunday Morning. 59 here but too late for a net contact.

07:31z  Net closed.

LZ/G3LRM, Bob, called in but when answered after some delay Bob was QRT.

Henk's linear, an EMTRON DX 2 - d, is back on the desk with new tube(s).

Les plans to go on holiday and may be absent for a couple of weeks.

1130z - 1230z  International Net on 14,293
1130z - EA7GSU Pertti from Genalguacil 5/7
1130z - VO1NP Nate from St.John's NF 5/5
1130z - N4PF Mike from Cynthiana KY 5/6
1132z - W1QUO Jim from Leominster MA 2/9, strong signal but severe break-up on speech.
1134z - W8SOO Ken from Sault St.Marie N.Mich 5/7
1147z - PA0SDZ Les from Hasselt 4/5 up to 5/9 at times.
1150z - HB9CQS Klaus from Sachseln 5/6
1158z - WN5V Dave from Welsh La 5/9
1208 - I had to leave the net at this time - Many thanks to Klaus for the following :-
Before you went QRT I worked W1QUO, Jim (57 - 59) - N4PF, Mike (56) - WN5V, David (55 - 57).

After you had left (my log says 12:07z) Pertti and I did our best to keep the net going.

Jim's modulation, originally broken up, improved considerably.

At 12:08 Les, PA0SDZ, came in. Les was very weak here but Pertti did well.

Further CQ ROAR calls produced nothing,

At 12:18z we almost managed to raise Nate, VO1NP, by calling him directly, but in the end it didn't work.

At 12:26z we had to close down the net for lack of playmates.

Many thaks to Jack KF5BD for the following report :-
Dear Bill;
Not many checked in but they accomplished much .  Several of the convention ROAR booth committee exchanged productive words and arranged funding for the remote base amateur radio statio complete with computers and a high tech ham station that will be broadcasting to the world from New Orleans Convention Center.
I understand Dave, WN5V [and wife] and Joe, AF1E are all ready fine tuning their plans to help make the special event ROAR station W5R a success and I heard Dave WN5V and Bob WB7RQG arranging the funding. The OLE MISS network that operates on 14.290 the time same we are operating on 14.288 called Bob and ask him if he and Jack could slide up one or two because we were heard on their space.  This is the group that usually bothers US on Sundays---------Good Rotarians that we are we graciously replied we would be happy to comply.
I think Ruben W2LGF got checked in by Joe  AF1E. Joe W0TBC was net control .
We missed Jim W1QUO and Pertti today. Probably our fault on Pertti when the OLE MISS fellows called in just about the same time I was thinking about  calling Pertti and then I failed to try again. Sorry Pertti.
                       Jack
