From Jack KF5BD in Albuquerque : -
Thank you Bill for commenting on 17meters.
My Beam is 10/15/20.  My Amp has a 15/17 position.
I thought maybe the 15 meter segment of my beam might work if I used a tuner.
so I gave it a try and it did tune up for 18.150 OK.
Then I put it on the air yesterday and worked Estonia from here [Albuquerque, NM.] using 500 watts to the beam.  The tuner tuned up with a 1.5 to one which suits my radio OK .
In the old days when my radio was tubes 3 to 1 suited the radios but today my radio would shut down with that ratio HI.

(Many thanks Jack. Following your tip I find my old amp (Trio 922) will tune 17m on the 15m position so I can put about
200w into my little low dipole without roasting the tuner.. (But my beam will have nothing to do with it ! )
Poor by the 1500w into 4-el beams normal on your side but shows its possible.
But I think most of our members are not really equipped for dx on 17m so we will likely have learn to to live with the
contest qrm  It does not happen every weekend.  We might get on 15m soon if the sun wakes up !
Thanks again Jack  -  de Bill g4yze.
