Roar Nets August 1 2010

Propagation very fragile.   K=1,  A=6,  Flux=82

0530z - 0700z  Europe - Anzo Net on 14,293 Long Path.
Again I got the opening from about 0615z and was delighted to get
VK2GWK Henk who was 5/5 here He gave me "4/2 just above the noise".
I could just hear Bill VK4ZD 2/1.
John EA/G4HMG came through 5/5 and Pertti EA7GSU a good 5/8 at the end.
Both enjoying the Spanish Music Festival season.

Many thanks to Bill VK4ZD for the following report : -
Hi Bill
Conditions were very poor for me on 20m this week.
Also on frequency was Rob ZL1RD.
I did make brief contact with Klaus at around 0540z.
I also heard you give your callsign when you called me at VK2GWK Henk's prompting.
Even conditions between Henk and me were not good enough for a qso.
On our 0500z 7.115 40m net we had greater success.
I ran the net in Peter VK3KCD's absence.
VK3FPSR Peter responded to my call at 0457z
Peter is keeping busy with a number of radio type projects including his hobby of restoring old valve radios.
He hopes to upgrade his radio license by the end of the year.
VK3ZLD/mobile Loui called in briefly at 0511z
He did not say if he was a Rotarian.
ZL1BFS Doug then called in at 0512z with his signal building up to 58 by the end of the net.
VK3TQ Peter called in at 0527z, just as I was about to go to the 20m net.
Peter Willmott is a member of the Rotary Club of Woodend in District 9800.
Peter said that his antenna works well on 80m & 40m but not so well on 20m.
His email address is vk3tq@wia.org.au

And many thanks also to Klaus for this report :-
Greetings Bill,
This Sunday's ANZO net was another disappointment. Very poor DX conditions and much QSB on the weak European signals.
05:28z  Started listening
05:30z  Heard Bill, VK4ZD, and Rob, ZL1RD, faintly. Not readable.
05:43z  Managed to contact Bill. VK4ZD, at Lockyer Waters. Peaking 42 here and quickly lost.
06:01z  EA/G4HMG, John. Brief contact. 44 - 55 here. John had lovely weather and a shortage of water.
06:20z  G4YZE, Bill. Very poor copy here. Mainly 32. Temp 13 - 14 C and showers.
06:25z  Believe I heard Bill, G4YZE, work Henk, VK2GWK. No copy of Henk here in Switzerland.
06:33z  EA/G4HMG, John, back on the net again. Up to 59 here and busy working G and PA stations.
06:35z  Heard Pertti, EA7GSU. 44 but disappearing quickly and no contact.
08:59z  Net closed.     73    Klaus, HB9CQS

0800z - 0900z  UK 80-metre Net on 3,694
G3LUW Brian in charge from Devon in fair conditions.
Supported by :-  G4MVO Jim,  G4WRU Mike,  G3JJR John,
G2FUU Tommy,  G0MMO Norman,  G0PCF Bruce, and me.

1100z - 1200z International Net on 14,293.
1058z - W1QUO Jim from Leominster MA 5/7. Got me 4/5 going to nil in qsb.
1103z - EA7GSU Pertti from Genalguacil 5/6 with qsb.
1113z - PA3AHC Malcolm from Naardeen 1/1 here but Pertti got him.
1132z - Net ended , or rather abandoned. Band attenuation seemed high with deep fading .
The background noise (typically S5 here) was going to zero for minutes at a time with complete silence..
We made many general calls but really got nowhere.
Jim reported very nice summer weather, Temps 23 - 24c.
It was great to get this encouraging message from Ian GM4JAE in Inverness :-
Hello Bill,
You don't hear from me very often as propogation on 80 is not good between Inverness and the rest of those on the ROAR evening net!!
However to-day I listened on the mid-morning 20metre International Net and heard you and W1QUO in contact, both stations about 3/3.
I later heard EA7GSU and PA3AHC in QSO and they were about 4/7. I called in when joiners were requested but I wasn't heard.
I don't have a linear so it was only 100W to an 80metre doublet. QRM and QSB played their part in making condx difficult.
Trust you are well, I gather you enjoyed your trip to Orkney!  (It was very good. The weather was kind ! )
I have heard mention of "Communicator" and a recent edition.....should I have received a copy?
(It is on the web www.ifroar.org but I shall post one to you this week Ian ! )
I read your weekly Net Summary with interest, even if I am not able to make contact on air....thank you.
I have had occasional QSOs with Brian G3LUW during the morning on 40metres when he has called into a net which I have on Wednesday with DJ8CL and M0MZX.
If you are around you are welcome but the longer skip is more favourable so Bolton may be too close!!
Bye for now...73 de Ian GM4JAE
