Roar Nets October 4 2009

Propagation improving slowly.   K=2,  A=0,  Flux=71.

0630z - 0730z  Europe - Anzo Net on 14,293 Long Path.
Not much audible here.

Thanks to Klaus for his report :-
Greetings Bill,
Conditions were not quite as good as last Sunday.
No copy here of ZL and VK4, but good opening into VK3 and southern part of VK2.
Only few Europeans were QRV. Here is an extract of my log:-
06:34z  Called CQ RI net. Band was dead.
06:40z  First signs of Australian activity. Signals improved markedly over the next 10 - 15 minutes.
06:54z  VK3KCD, Peter, from Flinders. 56 - 57 here. Got 55 - 59. VK4ZD and ZL1RD were also on the net, but only a faint murmur here. When signals started dropping again, I expected Peter to fade out.
This did not happen and I had good contacts to Peter over the next half hour.
06:58z  PA0SDZ, Les. Not fully readable here.
07:06z  Peter called CQ Europe several times and was now able to work Les . Peter got 53 and returned a 43 to Les.
07:23z  G4YZE, Bill. Coming and going here. Not easy. Conditions later improved somewhat.
07:27z  EA7GSU, Pertti. 59+10 here. Got 59. Pertti, using 2 el. beam, also worked Peter. 31, at best 41. Got 33 from Peter.
07:42z  PA0SDZ, Les. At long last a 54 here. Got 56.
Net closed abt. 07:50z.
07:53z  VK2BLZ, Len, near Coff's Harbour, called me outside our regular sked to give me a 54 report. Len was 54 here.

And thanks to Peter VK3KCD for this report :-
Good Morning Bill
Better conditions this week and had excellent signals from Rob ZL1RD and Klaus HB9CQS for nearly an hour. At 0709 worked Les PA0SDZ 4x3 here, gave me 5x3 and later at 0728 Pertti EA7GSU 3x2 both ways. I heard Bill VK4ZD at 3x2 and I do not think he could hear me.
Did hear one very weak UK signal on Saturday at about the same time so if conditions improve will hopefully have propagation further north next week. 73 YIR Peter VK3KCD.

And an interesting item from Les PA0SDZ :-
Hello Bill,
Very nice to have QSO with VK after a long period. It was quite interesting to hear the Anzo-net being split into two parts. From 07.16 until 07.24 I heard with one ear Klaus talking with Peter in Australia and with my other ear I heard John (EA/GMHMG) in QSO with David (EA5ALK), both in Spain. All  four at that time had signals here in Holland of 55 at the maximum. And after my short absence by a telephone-call, I had QSO with Pertti at 07.44 with -as usual- his signal 59+20! Still strange conditions but some signs of improvement. 73 Leslie PA0SDZ.

Hello Bill,     It gave me a great deal of happy excitement to contact VK4ZD.  I certainly appreciate VK4ZD's patience and perseverance.  The news about Bill Pollitt was also gratifying.
My son, Jim Jr., is going to pick me up about 10:20 (06.20 EST) and we will drive to the old home site and be ready to join the 1100 UTC net this sunday, Oct. 4.     I am sure you will enjoy revisiting with Jim Jr., the astronomer.   73  Jim  W1QUO

Jim Jr. again (we last met at the 50th anniversary of Jodrell Bank radio-telescope
in Manchester in 2007).  We very much appreciate your great effort and we shall
try to keep the net going at this end if you cannot make it every time.
Jim celebrated his 93rd birthday on September 27.
And what a wonderful surprise to hear Nate 5/7, first time in over a year.
And Nate reminded us that he will be 89 on November 28.

From Jim W1QUO on Monday.
Hello Bill,
Roll out the red carpet.  I understand that Coco, YO9BC, will be joining the International Net 1100-1200 UTC, Sunday, October 11. His new shack and equipment are state of the art.  He should be putting out a strong signal.
